They should absolutely get paid, but then we should also eliminate sports scholarships, priority class registration for the Athletics department, it being a factor in admissions, and every other perk that is currently granted to an athlete at a university other than pay.

Athletes currently get a hell of a lot right now, so it's always a little frustrating when people pretend like they receive nothing from the University because they're not getting a paycheck. I definitely agree they should get paid, and they should be able to market their likeness, but then all the other special treatment has to end.

They apparently have enough of the original authors notes to conclude the series. The ending is going to feel a little rushed because obviously they're only working with major story beats, but it will definitely be finished.

Funny they've opted to run with the AO rating rather than remove the gambling, but we all know where their priorities are. A lot of stores won't carry physical copies, either, which means they're banking hard on with digital sales or companies sucking it up and changing their entire policy just for AssCreed.

My guess is they'll do what they've been doing with other unpopular features, which is remove it, get the rating adjusted, wait like 3 weeks after the game is out and all the reviews are in, and then patch it in as a "free feature"

If it is a deliberate strategy on Russia's part, in otherwise words, it's too clever by half.

In terms of retreating in the north, the only strategic benefit I can see is that with the US HIMARS outranging their own artillery, Russia may be forced into getting close enough to their own border for their air defense capabilities to provide enough coverage for them to destroy those anti-air systems using more traditional means.

A big advantage Russia has in the East is that they can attack from their territory while Ukraine can't reach them and because for the most part everyone's been avoiding attacking targets in russia. The closer the Ukrainian army gets to the Russian border, the bigger combat advantage Russia will have which could lead to significant losses leading into winter. They may be hoping to stall long enough so that by the time they resume the offensive most of Europe is choking under a lack of gas and oil, leaving Ukraine isolated.

Their normal cabinets often go on sale for like $150 around black friday, but that mvc2 cabinet may very well be extremely limited production and you won't see another run beyond what they sold out of during pre-orders.

Having been around them, the cabinet is smaller than it looks in pictures. It's pretty narrow and pretty short, even with the riser, so if you're a tall person you'll really need a bench or something to be comfortable playing it. I won't say that it's cheaply made, but it's definitely underwhelming once you've seen one in front of you.

I would definitely pump the brakes on thinking they're on their way to retaking crimea. Not only is it the hottest tourist destination for russians, but it contains the only port in the entirety of Russia that doesn't freeze in the winter which is why they keep their Black Sea fleet there.

It makes sense as a strategic target to force Russia to deploy a lot of resources to protect it, but it's going to be a much harder fight to retake that than it will be various chunks of the donbas and I think you can expect an uptick of war crimes coming from Russia the closer Ukraine gets to retaking it.

There's one 5 minutes scene near the end of the first season with really incredible cinematography and art direction, but the rest of the show is basically what you've experienced already.

It feels like its simply not balanced if everyones rushing to one character to win.

Good developers will balance around win rate, not play rate, so while you will always have one character that everybody's picking, if they do it right they shouldn't win any more than any other pick.

Well, sure. In any fighting game there's going to be a huge chunk of the player base that just wants to win and will try to do so by picking whatever the "meta" character is. Even in the most balanced rosters you'll still see this behavior.

Okay. Well I was under the impression we were talking about a gap in pay between two people working the same job, which is obviously discrimination. You seem to be talking more about a gap between professions which I don't disagree with, but I also believe that's a far more complicated question that you most certainly couldn't summarize in a headline like "women make less money than men".

It's definitely not a different question. Conditional estimate vs unconditional estimate of the same quantity is just a different way of looking at the same thing, subdividing it in different ways. The unconditional estimate has all the problematic aspects I described, and what people try to do is sweep all of them under the rug of "personal career choice" by uncritically saying things like "if you correct for career choice the gap goes away!".

Women in the same career at the same level with the same experience working the same hours make the same amount as men. Given the evidence provided, do you agree or disagree? Let's just take the original question off the table first before we get any further off topic.

Because we're both doing the exact same thing. We're both held to the same metrics that are quantifiable and measurable. We are both hitting those metrics at a similar rate. When something can easily be put into numbers like this, everything else is irrelevant. If anything, it's ageist to pay me less just because I'm younger. We're still held to the same goals and standards, so why am I rewarded less?

For the same reason why you get a pay raise each year even though the work you're doing doesn't change. If you can understand why you deserve more next year for the same amount of work you're doing today then you can understand why this person that's been there for many years is making more than you.

SH2 is leaps and bounds better and more coherent than SH1. But both have a special place in my heart.

It pisses me off so much that we had a shockingly good movie adaptation in SH1 and then rather than getting a shockingly good movie adaptation of SH2 we got a piss-poor adaptation of SH3 that ended in a pokemon battle.

That's kind of where I was going, though. It makes perfect sense for morgoth worshipping humans to hate elves. Within that scene the fact that Arondir was black doesn't impact at all the interactions, because that's how it would go. At the same time, if you knew nothing about LOTR and watched that scene, you'd instantly "get" it because of how it was presented. None of the hostility was based on skin color, but the writer and casting director still opted in that first episode to show that every village was ethnically diverse except this one, then send the only black elf there to suffer through all that. Combined with the fact that the southlands people could have been Harad, creating an entire village of black people for casting purposes, makes the whole part of episode 1 feel surreal. The parallels to modern racism were all there: the black guy in the all white town, the casual slurs tossed at him in an unfriendly bar, the nervousness around him dating a young woman, the bullying between kids over it... it is all explained by the fact that he's an elf, yet it was explicitly framed in a way that mirrors modern racism, thus the "reverse allegory" comment.

A better question might be that if skin color isn't relevant in the rings of power, why did the writers send the only black elf in the first episode to the only village in the show that isn't ethnically diverse, where the all white morgoth worshipping locals can hurl slurs at him and rumors of him dating a local white girl is enough for the kids to relentlessly bully her son over it, even though in lore the southlands is where the all-black Haradrim would have lived (Harad means "south" in LOTR languages). They took a black people, made them all white, then sent a black elf there to be the victim of racism so that audiences could understand how badly they hate elves.

Fantasy races are often used as allegory to explore racism. This might be the first time I've seen racism used as an allegory to explore the hatred of fantasy races.

I think what she's saying, to use some blunt terminology to try and match her level of reasoning: "if your man broadcasts his pronouns he's a little bitch"

The best I could guess is she's saying men who put pronouns in their bio are submissive betas, and she's expressing that in the way that 2 "bros" might call each other little girls if they wince in pain or something like that.

Fun fact: in the original d&d lore, succubi are cursed angels cast in to the nether realms as punishment. As angels they used to have the ability to instill joy in people, so that power was warped when they were made succubi to instead give them the fleeting feeling of pleasure, followed by feeling of emptiness, and then compelling them to repeat that loop until the person is a hollow husk.

Maybe something like The Forest? A collaborative survival game might work better with your rocky relationship because you're combined efforts would go towards a common goal.

No, that's just you asking a different question. If people want to argue over whether women are shuttled to careers they don't want based on societal expectations, we should explore that. If you want to argue that there needs to be better child care so that women don't feel compelled to quit, I'm all for that discussion too. Both of those are great points and real issues that could be worked on.
