Listening to people talk about D&D with other people who play D&D or (as is the case here) targeted towards other people who play it is possibly the WORST way to try to understand it. If you actually want to understand it, I suggest you read the intro to an RPG book. Quite a few are available for free online, so there's no real cost to it.

Yeah, we weren't exactly being polite to anybody new here. DnD requires it's own unique language, in fact all roleplaying games do and they're all different. Like you can easily find someone saying this:
Two handing a weapon's attack goes like this: 1d20+Str+BAB-PowerAttack (if you have it, and use it up to BAB) to hit, and damage is WeaponDice + Str x 1.5 + PowerAttack (if you used it).

If you ever are curious about where to start though, I actually recommend podcasts to learn it because even if you don't understand the mechanics you can still enjoy the roleplaying that goes on.
You can understand the base mechanics and then read the books once you get the language down.

Are you going to go into any more detail than before?

I don't really know a whole lot about 5e, so I can't really comment on what I'd do. Since you're not doing classic gestalt though, I'd say that two martial classes would be the best option. At least, that's what I would do knowing what I know about Pathfinder and 3.5.

Ironically with 5e, with the exception of extra skills, it basically is just gestalt. Base Attack Bonus (and similar things) actually scale up with your overall level not class level.

Like most of my stuff, it would depend on the serious level honestly.

Higher seriousness: Bard Warlock. I like the idea of someone making some sort of pact with the devil for ultimate power, but then using it to help people out whenever possible but the corrupting nature of the devil deal makes things more interesting.

Mid seriousness: Fighter rogue. I honestly just like having bow characters, deal with it.

Low seriousness: wizard barbarian, because I want to see how that plays out.

If you physically harm someone for holding a poltical viewpoint, what happens? For simplicity's sake, we will say Side A got harmed, and Side B did the harming.

Side A says, "look, Side B is totally the bad guy here for doing something bad"
Side B says, "well its not really that bad, besides, it's for a god cause"

The thing is though, both sides are literally doing the same exact thing.
Violence just makes more people violent as reconciliation, it does nothing but make more people angry.

Mechanically? I can handle that if I need to by reskinning a half orc or a elf or whatever, that's not the problem. We will probably use 5e, so I can handle it easily enough.

The problem is any sort of semblance of part coesion, or a reason to actually be together, that's just out of the window for the biggest weirdo over (she even mentioned it would only happen once every hundred years or whatever).

There are 2 million people, in America, who are addicted to opioids.
Compare that to the 36.5 million people who smoke.

Now remember the basic fact that everyone has to die at some point in their life. So the smoker is more likely to die from a smoking related problem (for obvious reasons), so they have more people.

Like, I get what you're trying to say, that smoking is bad, but you're using the wrong stats is all.

It depends on my mood, sometimes I just want something soft for background, sometimes I want to focus on the music and all of the minor elements in it, and sometimes I want to just blast everything else out.
