That's cause like I said you don't go into a topic like "All ice cream are good" and troll post something like "ice cream taste like ass", you get called out. And why do you think this topic dispels the sense of anti-cop on this board? What that means, is that the majority of this board has a negative perception of police, not every single person. You're not gonna get a topic about pro-police behavior and every single person agree on the same thing, there's parity and both sides of opinions. God you're stupid.

And from a spectator point of view by fans of swimming, this is considered a joke.

Also, yeah, saying "No sympathy for the guy" is hilarious, since there is... Overwhelming sympathy for the guy, from viewers, sportscasters/analysts, and even literally the other people in the race.

There was a good post on Reddit from an actual swimming ref that explained why this rule is in affect.

It basically came down to creating excess waves in the pool while others are competing can affect their visibility as they are trying to finish (plus just poor sportsmanship). And the lane dividers can also break easily, you are never supposed to get on them.

He said these are not some obscure rules, basically every swimmer knows you can't do this and you will be disqualified for it. So there wasn't much sympathy for this guy.

I'm gonna question this, only because a "Swimming ref" on Reddit is saying something that appears to be in direct conflict with what... Actual swimming refs/analysts are saying. Did said ref on Reddit actually provide proof that they are what they say they are? Because when it comes to actual provable analysts in the media, they all seem to almost universally "No, this was a dumb call."

EDIT: Thinking about it, the "excess waves" thing doesn't even make sense, since you can create "excess waves" by celebrating in your own lane, which is NOT prohibited. He could have moved in jubilation in his own lane in celebration, which would have caused more waves than what he actually did caused, and there would have been no rule against it. Furthermore, you can cross into another lane WITHOUT causing waves at all, simply by... Going under the barrier. This explanation sounds rather made up.

idk. I kind of agree with this. Can't have people playing in the water while others are still competing

He didn't "dive," though. He just kinda... Slowly plopped. And then hugged his teammate.

Like, there's a reason this is met with universal disdain. There hasn't been a single analyst who has been able to come up with a reason for why this should have been a disqualification. It's just "...We have no idea why the ref ruled this way."

But when you start breaking these rules into the context then you have the same situation you have here with "discretion". Where everyone interprets the rules how they see fit.

The entire point of the rule is that it is up to referee interpretation, which is the entire problem, so...

There is literally no rule against crossing lanes of a swimmer who has finished. The rule, in writing, is ONLY:

ARTICLE 1. a. Any competitor who interferes with another swimmer during a race shall be disqualified from that race, subject to the discretion of the referee.

He, objectively, did not interfere with another swimmer. The entire controversy is that the referee decided to apply the rule per their discretion, and nobody can understand why.

I think it depends on what the rule is for. The way its worded makes sense if his interference actually interfered with another swimmer. That swimmer was already done, however. And finished second place, no less. So, the rule doesnt even make sense in this context since he didnt actually interfere with any other swimmers, which is what the rule it used for

And on top of that, second place was his literal teammate. He was celebrating with his own teammate.

Looking into it further, the rule he broke is actually flimsy.

ARTICLE 1. a. Any competitor who interferes with another swimmer during a race shall be disqualified from that race, subject to the discretion of the referee.

The reason there's uproar about it is the "Subject to discretion" part. He, objectively, did not interfere with another swimmer. It doesn't say anything about crossing lanes, it specifically says "interfere with another swimmer." The referee chose to disqualify him based on their "discretion" of an extremely flimsy rule.

It remains unclear exactly how officials feel that Lloyd broke the rules. The folks at Swim Swam, a popular swimming blog, pulled up the ACC rules on the decision and its a little unclear how Lloyd actually violated the rules.
ARTICLE 1. a. Any competitor who interferes with another swimmer during a race shall be disqualified from that race, subject to the discretion of the referee.
The issue is that Lloyd didnt interfere with another swimmer, because Dant had already finished as well. He also didnt jump into the lane of another team, as the two are both teammates on the NC State swim team. There is nothing in the rules that addresses moving into the lane of an opponent who has finished competing, but while other swimmers were completing the race.

Basically, the ruling is highly suspect.

Fair, next.

Actually, by the time he fell in the other lane, everybody had, indeed, finished. But the race technically isn't "over" even when everybody has finished. Thus, he was punished on a technicality.

EDIT: Actually, no, I guess technically one swimmer hadn't touched the final wall yet. They apparently touched it very shortly after.

The Rock did not trademark these things. WWE trademarked these things damn near 30 years ago. The Rock finally just got ownership of his own creations, away from a larger corporation. And he's clearly not going to pursue them against normal people, just within the world of wrestling.

i'm sure there are limitations in the clauses that limit it to wrestling related things. like, WWE now can't sell "smell what the rock is cooking" t-shirts without the rock getting a cut because he owns it now. this doesn't mean if a game has the line "smell what the rock is cooking" that they suddenly owe WWE and the rock money.

anyway, good for him. no reason why wwe should own it, he's big enough to have control over it himself.

This. This is the point. We know this to be true, because it's clear WWE wasn't randomly collecting money every time somebody said "blue chipper" or "rock bottom" in media, for example.

Decrying The Rock here is to argue corporations should be able to own characters that individual people create, instead of the people who actually create them.

The problem with Hulk is how they've basically neutered him to be a joke. Yes in the comics he loses to X or Y, but he also beats them in other comics. Hell, they ran a Hulk Vs Superman during the mid 90's for a reason. Does anyone think Hulk would stand a chance against any film Superman? I don't.

I understand they need to limit him a little bit, but they ultimately made him a joke across the entire MCU. The point of the character was that he was always an atomic bomb and that unease never even existed inside the MCU.

I get that, but I also get why it became a problem. They had to nerf characters like Hulk and Drax and Adam Warlock and so on, because you can't have an easy answer, or else there's no drama. With comics, it's not a problem, because you have enough time and material to make stories out of anything, but with movies and shows, you have much less time to work with, so you can't have an easy "Oh, Hulk could just win," or else you don't really have a movie.

It's a problem that doesn't really have an easy answer. Comics/manga/etc. are difficult to translate to shorter media.

Hulk or Strange.

Their goal with Strange was to be new blood for the future of the MCU, and thus far we had him cameoing in Spider-Man and his own film, but that was it.

They really just dropped the ball on a cohesive story for Phase 4 and 5.

Strange is a good answer, too. I feel like Hulk isn't a good answer because Hulk can appear in anything and people will be into it, still, whereas characters like Strange and Shang-Chi broke into the mainstream with fantastic debut appearances, and then they either... Did nothing (Shang-Chi), or haven't made them enough of a big deal when they were clearly meant to be (Strange.)

I feel like Shang-Chi is a slightly better answer, since atleast they've done SOMETHING with Strange, vs. nothing with Shang-Chi, but... Both kinda hit the same idea. They got people interested in a character your average person didn't know, and then didn't do enough with them.

Basically, the concept of "dropping the ball" relies on people actually being interested, first, and THEN you mess up, ergo "dropping the ball." You have to have the ball before you can drop it.

The reason Shang-Chi is a better answer is that they actually did get people interested in Shang-Chi, but then, so far, have never capitalized on it, to the point where now it may be too late. They never actually managed to get people interested in Iron Fist, since they, unfortunately, kinda messed him up from the beginning.

This is what makes Shang-Chi more of a dropped ball than Iron First, though.

Both Shang-Chi and Iron Fist are characters your average person doesn't know. Iron Fist's show wasn't very good, so him not doing anything since didn't really hurt. Shang-Chi's movie was very good, so them not doing anything with him since is pretty much the literal definition of "dropping the ball."

Basically, after Iron Fist's show, people... Still didn't care about Iron Fist. But after Shang-Chi's movie, people DID care about Shang-Chi, and yet they haven't capitalized on it. THAT is dropping the ball. Iron Fist's ball was never in play to be dropped in the first place, since they never actually got people interested in the character, like they did Shang-Chi.

Literally nobody has had to put words in your mouth, don't worry. You've built your own reputation, and you reinforce it almost vehemently.

Spider-Man MCU definitely sucks compared to Raimi's.

This is a take. The Raimi movies were generally awful, outside of certain character portrayals, such as Goblin and Doc Ock, which... Have since been able to exist, in the MCU.

Criminal Investigators, apparently.

This doesn't answer the question. They're authorized to, but your posts imply they do, and that they use them, to a noteworthy extent, so please explain further.

I know. Still, Terrance might want to pay Uncle Sam his cut since those accountants carry guns now.

Which accountants carry guns, exactly? Please explain?

Considering that the IRS is armed and dangerous now courtesy of our current president, I wouldnt want to get on their bad side since theyre just as liable to take whats owed to them in blood if they cant take it in money.

Please explain what you mean, in detail?

I fucking love Don Cheadle.

So do I. Howard being greedy is the best thing to happen to the MCU.

Anyone choosing people like black widow or thor or shang chi is silly

These characters had next to no fans pre mcu and are now A listers due to the mcu. You may not like certain aspects but dropped the ball does not apply

This is entirely what "dropped the ball" would mean, though. They built up Shang Chi, causing people to want more, and then literally dropped the ball by... Doing nothing else with him, so far. Like, this couldn't possibly apply more to Shang Chi if they tried. They made people care about the character, and then he hasn't mattered since.

Shang Chi is the perfect "dropped the ball" case, because they built him from nothing, and then just... Did nothing/dropped the ball, so now he's fading.
