Stuck in the first season because it wasn't as good as The Office. I have to give it a second try though.

It gets SO much better. Worth sticking with. First season is a crime compared to how good it gets.

And, to be fair, I do think Mark fit the season 1 style Parks a LOT more. That said, people didn't connect with season 1 Parks. It didn't become a hit until later. And when you consider the style of writing that became a hit vs. what didn't, Ben was the better "straight man" character than Mark was, for what people actually liked.

Mark wasn't dropped afaik, the actor quit. Maybe it was a mutual parting, idk or maybe they said he quit so he can save face.

By the actor's own admission, it was mutual based on writing having nothing for the character, so he was basically "dropped." He said he felt sidelined, the writers admitted they didn't know where to go with the character, so they parted ways.

"That experience was very strange for me," Schneider said of leaving Parks and Rec. "You know, I signed up for a specific character that was changed in mid-season. And it became a character with a lot less to do. And, all of a sudden, I was kind of confused and kind of having a lot less to do."

I disagree. Viola was also a fun "newcomer" (in quotes because it's highly speculated that she's actually Amy which would mean she's not actually a newcomer), Aeon was a neat way to incorporate Lizardman while also recycling parts of Kratos' moveset from Broken Destiny

While I'll give you Viola, Aeon gaining a new moveset became a thing in... 3 and 4. 5 changed his moveset even more, but it had already been a thing, by that point.

But yes, I do agree with you. I loved Viola, so I agree ZWEI wasn't the only good thing. Maybe they meant ZWEI was the only good "new" character, if you assume the other new characters didn't include Amy/Viola.

idk, I still feel like you need someone to even out the show. Mark was boring, but somehow he didn't effect my rating of season 2 at all. I feel like if he was a detriment, it would have dropped my opinion of season 2 a bit, but the writing was just too strong to ignore, and that includes various stories involving Mark directly. Ron making him a boat for instance doesn't work with a more wacky character.

To be fair, that's a testament to how good the writing was, not a testament to Mark as a character. The writing was good DESPITE Mark not fitting in. And it's ultimately why Mark was dropped, as a character. He simply didn't fit in, and they couldn't really find ways to make the character work.

I get your point that Ben is much more zany compared to Mark, but it fits. Yes, Ben is zany, himself, but he's still much more normal than every other cast member from that point on, thus making him an effective straight man. Even in his most crazy scenes, like Cones of Dunshire, he's STILL the straight man compared to Andy, for example, because Ben himself is literally being as logical as possible, gaining Pawnee wireless internet or whatever and all that, while Andy is off... Being Andy, and being a total goof, much to Ben's chagrin. It just... Worked.

No chance you can say Adam Scott was a straight man. He may have been the most 'normal' on the show, but he was far from a normal human being. He was just as looney as the rest. Dude created a stop motion animation film and Cones of Dunshire.

Not to mention his entire backstory was fucking insanity.

That's the point, though. I realized I edited my post late, but a straight man has to work within the confines of the series.

Jim worked as the straight man for The Office because he, himself, was still fairly zany, and fit in with the rest of the cast. Mark's character didn't fit in at all, he practically felt like he belonged in a different series. To be a good "straight man" character, you have to feel "normal" compared to the rest of the cast, while still actually fitting in with that cast. You can't just be "normal" at the expense of fitting in, or else you're just... A poorly written character.

Ben is absolutely the "straight man" character that best fit Parks, hands down.

A straight man only truly works when they fit within the context of the rest of the characters. Jim worked for The Office because he still fit in with the rest of the characters. Mark's character worked almost vehemently in opposition of anybody else. Thus, when Ben was introduced as the new "straight man," it worked, because... Yes, he was very quirky in comparison to Mark, but he fit in with the rest, and compared to them, he was very much the "straight man."

Smackdown did better ratings in 2023 than it had for atleast 4 years prior, though, which is a decent argument for saying Roman was a draw.

Good point.

That said, Cartman is typically only shown as prevailing against people even weaker than him, usually as a gag. When he actually fights Kyle, for example, Kyle takes him out in one punch, and Kyle isn't ever portrayed as being particularly tough or anything.

I legit don't know, to be fair. I searched for a source, and the only source is IMDB, but I also know IMDB can be freely updated, to an extent. I don't know what that actual extent is, I just know that, previously, movie casts listed on IMDB have been false, and it was because they were community edited.

Im not disputing it, as Ive not seen the film and thought it looked awful, but Catwoman is literally the worst film I have ever seen, and Ive seen some stinkers.

To be fair, "worst since Catwoman" doesn't say it's worse than Catwoman. It just says it's the worst "since" Catwoman, aka it's... Comparable, in how bad it is.

I, admittedly, know next to nothing about game design, as my development experience is almost entirely in the corporate production structure. We primarily made in-house apps for large companies, and/or customer facing websites. That said, I find this very interesting, and I love reading about your progress. I don't know if anything I've said sounds like I could help in any way, but I'm certainly open to contributing, however.

As a mobile developer, salaried is absolutely better than hourly. Sure, I occasionally had to work outside of normal business hours, but it was more than made up for by the hours that I didn't really have to work, because I was waiting for responses from QA, or whatever. Much better than hourly, which doesn't have paid holidays, and so on.

If you enjoyed the action combat, but didn't care for the mafia stuff, then you might like the spinoff series, Judgment. The main character there, Takayuki Yagami, is a lawyer turned Private Investigator.

There are still some Yakuza elements since Yagami was basically adopted by a Yakuza boss as a teenager. But it mostly focuses on Yagami and his detective agency more than the Yakuza themselves.

This is true, too.

If you're not into the actual Yakuza/mafia stuff, try Like a Dragon/Infinite Wealth and the Judgment series. They hit both gameplay styles and don't truly require you to know too much about the rest of the series. Yes, you benefit greatly by knowing the main characters, if you play Like a Dragon, but you don't HAVE to know them to enjoy the games.

That's literally how involved the optional "side quest" choices are. You could, quite literally, make entire games out of Yakuza/Like a Dragon's side quests/optional modes. That's why the game series is so fun. That toy car racing bit is literally just an optional side activity in a much larger game, and yet you could spend countless hours playing it, if you wanted to.

My friend swears by this series saying since I like rpgs I will enjoy this game. But I tried some demo and I just dont care about yakuza mafia stuff, it didn't really click with me.

To be fair, if you like RPGs, you're looking at the actual "Yakuza: Like a Dragon" and "Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth," which are RPGs that are actually much, much lighter on the actual yakuza/mafia stuff than the previous games. The earlier games were action games and much, much more involved in those themes. The two later games are more traditional RPGs that only use those themes as a backdrop, while focusing on a more traditional "Hero overcomes antagonist" style storyline.

That's one thing Yakuza/Like a Dragon does better than almost anything. If you want a serious story, there is an actual serious story there. But it's surrounded by so much optional absurdity that it can find an audience with almost anybody. You want rhythm based shit? You want kart racing? You want a dating sim? It's all there, and it's all optional.

I remember that being a thing, but we never ended up going to that. We hung on to AOL for awhile, then transitioned directly from AOL to NetZero/Juno. I was the catalyst for that. Since I grew up around computers thanks to my older brother, by that point I knew enough to tell my family "Hey, this is literally free internet, as long as you have this dumb ad bar at the top of the screen that doesn't really interfere with anything," so we went from paying for AOL to not paying at all, which is now... Unheard of, and internet prices are higher than ever.

I think I started on AOL dialup, then MSN dialup. I got Clearwire broadband and then Spectrum cable after.

I never used MSN. My family used CompuServe, then AOL, then we transitioned to those free internet services that basically made you have an ad bar at the top of your screen, such as Juno and NetZero.

Those were crazy times, if you compare them to now.
