That was the best orchestral arrangement of video game music I've ever heard. Spectacular. I have the CD from the Skyward Sword special edition but I wish there were recordings of some of the stuff that isn't on that because it demands to be heard. I'm pretty sure they're still traveling around with this thing, so go if you get the chance.

The 3's & 7's chart in GH3 is actually fine, I shouldn't have listed it as a chart that I hate - but I really don't like the unnecessary use of hard to hit chords in it. I prefer the RB version a lot.

Oh s***, I forgot to mention how terrible the boss battles are. It's kind of a fun mode to play with another person, but against the AI it's just terrible. The songs themselves are fun to play on their own, especially DWDTG which I admit is probably the coolest finale in any GH or RB game, but oh my god the boss battle mode. Ugggh it's just tedious and stupid.

It probably still is the second best in its series, but there isn't much competition. Guitar Hero 3 does beat out GH1 which has its own charms but is ultimately really unpolished and weird, and beats out GH80's which is really kind of limited and doesn't have a ton of fun songs to play either. GH2 is the best by a pretty wide margin. For me, after that, GH kind of died spiritually when Harmonix moved onto RB, which in my opinion remains the superior franchise. GH:WT and everything that followed just sort of unsuccessfully tried to follow in its footsteps.

Well, 1 for 1 on final four, with my remaining three (Kentucky, Ohio State, Kansas) still alive. This could turn out to be a decent bracket for a change.

I would be absolutely stunned if you did not go 4 for 4.

Welp, you were right. I went 4 for 4.

It's hilarious because my bracket was pretty much awful up to this point but now it's awesome because I nailed the final four.

It's especially funny because two of the #2 seeds are in it, and the other two #2 seeds lost to #15 seeds. I picked the right ones. Not that it was that hard given that Duke was a joke.

GH3 doesn't really have that much in the way of songs that are both challenging and fun. I'd pretty much narrow that list down to these:

Cliffs of Dover
Cult of Personality
Pride and Joy
The Metal
Black Magic Woman
Welcome to the Jungle
Impulse

Some songs in GH3 I really hate:

Raining Blood: Textbook artificial difficulty. Almost none of the charting in this song makes sense and it's just annoyingly hard, and that's coming from someone who nearly FCed it.

One: Really boring for a few minutes and then it has a stupidly hard solo that's actually charted faster than the notes are really played for the sake of artificial difficulty. Really unfun song to play.

Before I Forget: Holy s*** this song is murder on the wrists and for no other reason than for artificial difficulty.

Number of the Beast - Really awful 3-note chords.

Stricken - See above.

3's & 7's - See above.

The Way That It Ends - fhdsjghsjdhfsdjfh

Through the Fire and the Flames - Nothing needs to be said about how they vomited a ton of notes all over this one and called it good.

The only reason I can think of why someone would single out GH3 and say it sucked was because RB1 came out at the same time, which cut into the audience of Guitar Hero players considerably. People who play for fun would naturally prefer Rock Band, whereas people who played for challenge would prefer Guitar Hero 3.

Opposite for me actually. Rock Band had three things going for it in the challenge department - new instruments to learn, stricter timing windows, and DLC that came out pretty fast that was harder than almost anything GH3 offered. Challenge isn't really the reason I dislike GH3.

Although I'm not particularly a fan of Luke's character, I do actually have to give his writing some praise. They actually pull off the transition from giant jerk to nice guy a lot better than most stories do. He legitimately f***s up, he slowly realizes how much of a dickwad he was, the party doesn't forgive him immediately, and he actually goes through a character transformation that seems natural and has some room to breathe. By the time he's become a better guy, you actually feel like he has gone through some genuine hardships and actually learned some hard lessons. He starts out too obnoxiously terrible and ends up way too obnoxiously nice, but I think it's a fairly well-handled character arc.

Here's the thing - okay, one thing - that I don't get about the Deleter subplot.

Are they seriously expecting us to care about this whole murder mystery intrigue about a bunch of guys who we've never met and have no f***ing clue about?

Okay, so Anthony we know at least, and while he's not a great character, he is at least developed enough for me to understand who he is and why I should care about him. The other four dudes? Nothing. They're just four random ass dudes. Yet they're somehow more f***ing important to the story than Samus is, and we're expected to be on the edge of our seat trying to figure out who the Deleter is. Except no, f*** you. Why in the world would you think we would care about this.

The most hilarious part of course, is that they hit you over the head with every plot point, to the point of Samus needing six or seven lines to narrate obvious things going on right in front of you, but then you're suddenly expected to infer a whole bunch of s*** about the Deleter plot like a goddamn psychic. And that's assuming you ever care, which you shouldn't. F*** this game.

Okay guys, I have a new idea.

Mafia role: Deleter

Every night, the Deleter chooses someone to kill, and in the morning it is loudly announced that the Deleter killed someone, and who he killed. However, when the Deleter himself is killed, his death is not announced and the issue is immediately dropped and never brought up again.

Yeah okay seriously though, this episode was pretty much a slam dunk all the way. Good jokes, funny character interaction, plot was an interesting change of pace, and even the character development and the moral was pretty reasonable. Pretty much salvaged Spike's character for me too, after Owl's Well that Ends Well was such an atrocious episode.

The hilarious thing is that I forgot that game even happened until well after all the games in the real tournament were done. Like I only just checked the score a couple hours ago. "Oh I wonder how Washington did. Oh they demolished Northwestern. K whatever."

The NIT is such a depressing wasteland of college basketball.

I just realized, I was complaining about the lack of upsets up to a certain point and how all of the potential upset bids were falling short, and then BAM, Norfolk State > Missouri, Lehigh > Duke, Ohio > Michigan, USF > Temple. F***ing uncanny, seriously, it was like reverse murphy's law.

The Creighton/Alabama, Memphis/SLU, and Florida State/St. Bona games were all really good too. Best day of college basketball I recall in quite some time, even without having a horse in the race personally.

I was actually just talking about this with someone, and I actually think that Karkat and Dave don't make good foils for each other at all, despite being my two favorite characters.

See, John and Karkat are absolutely perfect for each other. John is a perfect straight man - he's innocent, naive, and he actually likes Karkat despite all the s*** he gets from him, and that's what pisses Karkat off the most. That makes their friendship a surprisingly endearing one, and almost all of Karkat's funniest lines are when he's talking to John because John is just the perfect setup guy for it.

With Dave, there's no real straight man. They're both like, trying to be funny, and their styles of humor don't mesh that well to me. Dave is also actually infuriating, which makes Karkat's anger seem less funny and more just justified. Meanwhile, Dave is just way too above Karkat's s*** and doesn't even deal with him on his level, which John is perfectly happy to do.

It's great for drama I guess, because they are definitely characters that will get on each other's nerves! But they're not especially funny together.
