It's probably a dumb knee-jerk reaction to the Emiru situation but on some level I don't blame them. I can't imagine how much risk there would be with obsessed Vtuber fans sending creators god knows what.

They could literally just screen them. They don't even throw away random shit mailed to the president although you could get in a lot of trouble if you send something you know you shouldn't.

Let's be honest it was probably mostly just stolen by staffers.
Probably a lot of nice merch and gifts from fans.

I barely know anything about twitchcon other than it's a convention and it's hosted by twitch.

But the more details come out the stupider and stupider it all sounds. Like thy literally stole shit from people and let a girl get assaulted? What else could go wrong? Everyone goes home with bed bugs?

I understand the sentiment but like, I would think that would be a decision for the streamer to make, not something Twitch does unilaterally.

Like Twitchcon is a genuinely cheapskate convention. They don't provide travel or hotels for the streamers and the streamers aren't paid. All they get is a space to do something like a meet and greet. They whole reason most the streamers actually go to this thing is to meet and interact with fans. So you would at least think that streamers would get a say in whether they can keep the gifts or not.

Yeah seen one happened to a vtuber where a guy put a tracking device inside one of the dolls he gave to her at a convention and he actually went to her house in the middle of the night. Idiot got caught when she had to end the stream hearing her house got broken in and pressed charges trying to play the victim lmao

Like even medium big streamers have hired someone to read their business emails right? Surely if you're big enough to go to Twitchcon and get real mail, you have an assistant/agent/manager whatever reading your real mail right?

Also, is there now a single dumpster in San Diego ostensibly filled with bombs, poison and razor blades?

I think theres some big drama every year. Kinda amazing they keep doing this convention....also kinda crazy that I've been to many furry conventions which sound much more coordinated and safe....

Furry cons tend to have really tight security as a precondition for even being allowed to happen.

I didn't read super deep into that one, but I think that one was overblown. They had a block party kind of thing and one of the stores in that block happened to be selling pocket knives. It could potentially be a security issue, but I think it would be difficult to police every store's inventory for a block party and it's absolutely not the same as "twitch is selling switchblades."

Adriana Chechik. She broke her back in two places. Also turned out she was pregnant and the injury meant they had to terminate it. I'm surprised she doesn't own half of twitch after that lawsuit.

There are people who are going to Twitchcon and who get real mail who have another job, because both those things often happen long before you are able to stream full time, let alone be able to hire employees.

Who needs those gifts when twitchcon itself is the gift that keeps on giving

One woman broke her spine not long ago. Bezos nor anyone important at Amazon gives an ish about these people. Twitch is simply another shareholder vertical. It's masquerades as a con.

Yes. Exactly that happened once at Crunchyroll. Gifts for anime voice actors i think, were stolen by Crunchyroll staff

You can expand that to the majority of streamers too, letting someone get assaulted and the only thing they do is a 30 day twitch ban or the ballpit shit last year that caused someone to break her back and lose her baby.

They're apathetic towards most streamers, but they seem to have it in for vtubers. The place that birthed the hottub meta and still has some very questionable content for a site used by teenagers will also ban vtubers for showing shoulders. I'm certain I even remember one streamer get banned upon revealing a new model despite the artist who made it streaming the creation process including showing the entire model.

It's very arbitrary and they're fortunate they're one of the only games in town for streaming to a large audience.

It's an old management trick. Destroy your employee's self esteem and make it seem like they are always one step away from losing their job. I'm surprised Twitch hasn't attempted to get their talent hooked on drugs while positioning themselves as their dealers.

Interesting seeing Twitch's downfall happen now. It's always a sight to behold for a company to fall due to their own terrible decisions.

I doubt this will cause Twitch to fall. This is far from the first time they've done shitty things. There would need to be a proper competitor for them to actually fall.

Exactly. Its the same thing with youtube. Theyre the biggest and only ones doing what they do the way theyre doing it. Too many people are ingrained in their system and UI. None of these people are gonna do anything to twitch, who can just ban them as they are not employees.
