I like to read at a slow, leisurely pace and just kinda take the story in, I can read faster but really only do that if I'm in a time crunch

I read fast, then skip words and have to go back so I'm twice as slow as I should be. Never been able to help it.

Depends on context; common stuff I'll blitz right through, while more nuanced content demands reading a bit more carefully, and grammar, especially commas, periods, and starting new sentences with a capital letter, as those are important in landmarking and pace setting. Those aside, it doesn't matter that much. Typos, repeated words, some improper punctuation, and other similar errors are often not even noticed.

Pretty darn slow. While it gets me engrossed in the book, a lot of readers around me read like 3 to 5x more than me.

I speed read.

Years ago, when my niece was young, she was horrified by the idea that I could take an 800 page book out of the library on a Friday and finish it before taking it back on Monday. She could barely process the idea that I would want to read for fun at all, let alone that I could read that fast.

I tend to read pretty fast, and I read a lot. I've finished 47 books so far this year (and book #48 is at over 90% complete). I set my goal to read at least 1 book each week, and I'm 15 ahead of schedule. My record is 103 books in 2023, just shy of 2 per week.

I would be further along but when I sit outside to read my goats keep coming over and insisting I give them attention.

At a certain age range, reading is almost entirely involuntary. That's why kids tend to hate it.

I don't necessarily disagree. I know my leisure reading dropped waaay off in college because I was reading a ton of stuff I was forced to read, so I felt no real motivation to read for pleasure. It actually took me a few years after graduation before I started getting back into the swing of it.

But it's also not a universal, because my love for reading pretty much started as soon as I was capable of it. I actually started reading before the rest of my class in school (to the point where they wanted to jump me ahead a year), used to love going to the school library, and had a fairly large book collection as early as age 8 or so. Even in high school when they were forcing us to read lots of stuff I didn't necessarily care about, it didn't really discourage my own side reading. I was all about reading.

When you've read 50 or so pages and finally look up from the book, does it look like 30 minutes have passed, or is it 7 hours later?

That seems like a pretty objective way to tell.

Depends on the story. Some sections are faster than others but some are extremely slow especially with big words and then I start to fall asleep. Harry Potter and Legend of Drittz are faster reads than HP Lovecraft's Great Tales of Horror. Sometimes I can read 20-50 pages in a night some not even a page.
