Now I Go is a really pretty SAD song that reminds me of old JRPGs for some reason. Very strong piece, but is unfortunately up against Upsky of Fire Land according to the rip I downloaded. I know Xak isn't a shmup, but this is the perfect shmup song. Tough match.

Club Master Duel is another banger (Few of those today, huh). Doesn't do all the cool shit some of the better GB composers are able to pull off, but it's highly catchy and that running bass-ish sound is really neat. Human Warrior doesn't sound like something I'd expect out of Planetarian! It's fine I guess, no real thoughts other than that.

Like most Shadow Hearts songs, Sabbath is pretty fucking good. Really heavy, great use of distortion, unnerving vocal samples. This is probably the closest VGM I've heard to stoner metal, at least before the orchestral bits, which are great in their own right. Overall, an excellent song that hopefully wins easily here, because its opponent is almost certainly the worst song in the bracket.

When i was at the airport there was a sign on the wall that said mind your wingspan and there was a kid who was asking what that means and the parent explained how planes and birds worked and i immediately thought of this song

This is so fl81(i am too lazy to figure out if it is the truth that fl81 actually likes this or not)

Ichiro shimakura is a composer i love but something i always feel is that the first pokemon tcg game sounds nothing like him (while 2 is easier to see how its him). But in trying to find similarities im realizing even here theres like chiptune approximation of dense choir chord sweep like youd hear in his later work. what an exciting detail oriented sequencing style this fellow has. This is making me want to liste to metal black - time .

The shadow hearts games having these ear splitting filters to make things just a bit more industrial and pissed off at you never gets old

tough one here, two legit songs here that both start out strong. land of flames wedges right in a zone where it strongly reminds me of several different things (puyo puyo, c64 (and other 80s european) vgm, ymo...) i all enjoy, and i really like it for that. i honestly also nearly teared up while listening to now i go the first time the other day (not this time but i absolutely still like it), so i definitely mean it when i say it was a tough call
not gonna lie, i remembered planetarian having a song with that title, but i totally forgot it sounded like this. felt like i was listening to something from one of those OTSU key trance albums instead lol (which is a pretty good thing fortunately, i love those) (ps. this 4pack is really good in general)
sabbath is a song that i immediately gravitated towards since the first time i listened to all of the shadow hearts soundtracks (which wasn't too long after i first played them ithink). i'm pretty sure it was such a random favourite of mine that it was also one of the first songs i nominated on here... for i think somebody's ranking topic, and it did abysmally. so yeah i'm still shocked that sabbath had any other fans, let alone that they opted to nominate it lol. side note i totally don't remember whose topic it was so if it was you, feel free to let me know lmao. ((also iwgyma is alright))

When the string instruments sound both sad and warm at the same time. It is very pleasant but not super remarkable.

Every time I listen to this song I think it's another song and I always get a little confused. It has a melody that I think should be in a more iconic game I guess? This is one of those tracks with a soundfont I don't really care for, but a melody that's so fun that I kind of just don't care all too much. Wish the section before the loop wasn't as weak as it is though.

The Pokemon Trading Card Game sound is possibly the most distinct on the Game Boy. I am always immediately able to recognise a song from this game, even if I haven't heard it in like 4 years. Though it shouldn't take me 4 years to relisten to some of these tracks because they're really good! I really like the parts that sound to me like a deck being shuffled.

Ah yes, Human Warrior, the class/race combination of straight white men with no imagination in RPG games. Sorry that was mean, particularly because this song is pretty bopping. This song deserves better. I don't like it as much as Club Master Duel, I'm afraid, but this was still a blood pumping good time. I do wish the change in melody happened like a minute earlier but it is what it is.

Oh yes Shadow Hearts my BELOVED. These soundtracks are a really eclectic mix of music styles. I love how you can just tell the series has horror roots by how dirty and oppressive the music sometimes is, but this obviously feels a bit more in line with the JRPG evolution of the franchise.

Holy shit this is catchy. Its not really impressive to me or interesting, but what sets it above some of the other vocal tracks in this contest is the catchiness of the melody and beat. A very solid dance track.

This is one of those times where I wish I was more exact in my rankings because my 7.5s are like in the middle between 7.5 and 8 ....

Maybe I'm just biased to the chickadee in the thumbnail but Now I Go is very pleasant 7.5/10

Gotta love Japanese RPGs you've never heard of on consoles you wouldn't recognize 7/10

Club Master Duel is kinda from one of my favorite vg soundtracks of all time so uhhh yeah, never gets old for me 10/10

Human Warrior is fine, a little repetitive 6.5/10

Sabbath is absolutely murder to listen to. The hellish screeching of the guitars and the vocals does this one absolutely no favors; just hideous to experience all the way through 1.5/10

Wingspan is nice, but is definitely not my kind of song lol. Meanwhile... Upsky of Fire Land is! (not me finding out about this name actually being the official one two hours before voting closes oops) It's a simple song, but catchy and I LOVE when it goes more intense at 1:23 mmmmm FM good

Club Master Duel has always been my TCG GB song of choice. The fullness of the wavetable bass on top of the squares doing the same in the intro and continuing throughout the song just reverberates in my chest whenever I listen to it and GOD I love that feeling, this song is so damn good. On the other hand we have Human Warrior and um wHO HID FROM ME THE FACT THIS GAME HAS TECHNO IN IT I literally never in a billion years would have guessed that. I actually have no idea what I am voting for while writing this lmfao this match is that fucking good. This was very high up on my support considerations in noms!! Shit okay uhhhhh I normally like the otogesque techno sound way more than like a chiptune song but I think Club Master has something unique I can not get from pretty much any other song that could be here so it wins. Barely. I will be very happy whatever wins here!! (Coming back here from a few minutes in the future after writing this and the next match but turns out Human Warrior is completely unused in game what the fuck I mean I understand cause I do not see it fitting hence my confusion earlier but goddamn they should've found SOME way to use it it's so good)
