RULES

• Every user is allowed to vote for 20 of their favorite games on a particular system
• The format will allow for one +5, two +4s, three +3s, four +2s, and ten +1s
• You don't have to use all your votes and you can distribute them in any way you like
• Almost every game on a particular system is allowed. Doesn't matter if it is a port, but compilations I'm gonna BAN
• Put multiple versions of games as a single entity (i.e. mainline Pokemon, DX versions of GB games)
• Japanese-only games are acceptable
• Standalone expansions are acceptable. Anything requiring the base game is to be included with the original title.
• Homebrew games are acceptable so long as they were made to be played on original hardware.
• ROM Hacks are NOT acceptable.
• Try to just go by your favorites rather than gaming your votes to create more "interesting" results or whatever. IDK what participation will look like, but I'm guessing if I made it vote by PM, it'd be a bit lower, so relying on the honor system here
• If you would like to provide write-ups at all, just notify me in the topic on what games you would want to write about, and I can send you a PM if one or more of your games makes it.
• This will be open for at least a week. Might make it longer if it seems there is benefit to it. I'll probably give people 4-5 days for writeups too, unless some leeway is needed.

It's not 1000:1, but it's definitely not 1:1, either. I think you'd need to be a bit more explicit in how you define what's "relevant," because things that will garner any degree of attention on the board is very different than "would have done well in a site contest."

Listen you can crow about how many great things exist on 90s PC and make this bloated list of honorable mentions to prove your point but I see 75% of lists aren't even full and I know I personally had trouble filling my list so I think I'm closer to right than you are here given the context of "a contest held on this board."

Dreamcast has a smaller library but in terms of great games, to this board's target audience, probably similar amounts of games.

Yeah Dreamcast is popping off with awesome games that I played on Gamecube/PC/Arcade

I suppose in general this will be a more and more common thing as we go forward in time.

That would likely be the case for Xbox.

But to its benefit it could pick up on some multiplat games that wouldnt make it on a GCN or PS2 list.

...I have not played many 90s PC games. May redo the list if I can think of think of anything else to take the bottom five slots, but most PC games I only played their console ports and have no interest in making a PC list based on non-PC ports. (...Yes, I broke this rule for Metal Gear 2. No, I don't have a justification.)

And for no reason, I'm going to do mini write ups for some picks that have 0% chance of making the list.

Duckman: An actually decent point-and-click adventure game. Nice animation, has most of the original voice cast (Jason Alexander refused to appear because doing the voice for that long would hurt him, but his replacement does a fine job), and a lot of involvement from the show's actual writers. If you love Duckman and are okay with the point and click genre, you won't be disappointed.

Multimedia Celebrity Poker: Did watching Star Trek: The Next Generation leave you wishing that you could play poker with Jonathan Frakes? Now you can! This game is a dream come true, if your brain is broken in a very oddly specific way. Like mine!

Aisle: An incredibly short, experimental, free piece of interactive fiction. Aisle is notable for inventing the "one move" genre of IF, in which you're presented a scenario and only get to make one action. You play as a man in the pasta aisle of a market... what do you do?

It sounds stupid, but there's a surprising number of actions that you can perform and it's well written, so it's certainly worth checking out if you're into very experimental works.

Magic: The Gathering: It includes a CRPG style adventure with you exploring a world & battling creatures to win cards and save the realm. It's not great, but it's... playable? The easiest difficulty is apparently really easy, as I won using some demented deck with over a hundred cards and no combos or strategy to it, so... that was... a thing.

A Final Unity: Next Generation point-and-click adventure. Lots of the cast reprise their roles and it's like playing through a fairly subpar episode of the series. It's a perfectly fine adventure game? Enjoyable enough for Next Generation fans, so I had fun with it.

X-Men II: Rachel Summers is playable! ...That is the end of my praise.

WWF Wrestlemania: It's... uhh... it kinda implements promos as you get insulted by your opponent & get to select a dialogue response. It's meaningless (as far as I know), but it's a nice touch. He's not playable, but The Warlord is one of the opponents, making his only gaming appearance. The final boss is Iraqi sympathizer Sgt. Slaughter, providing a look at a time in US history where opposing the war was considered the most evil thing imaginable, so it's... almost interesting from a historical point of view?

...It's not fun to play and there are only three playable wrestlers, but it wasn't completely devoid of charm.

Monopoly Star Wars: Running in circles and buying property as Darth Vader provides minutes of fun! Also, I think a random Stormtrooper was playable? So you could have this random trooper owning the galaxy. That meets the legal definition of humor.

Even old Windows games like SkiFree are eligible for this topic. I don't consider myself a "PC gamer" by any stretch but I can still probably come up with 20 games that I've played.

a) I didn't make that list to argue with you. You'll note that I posted before you did (post 19) about how I was having trouble choosing. I was in the midst of compiling my thoughts when you started posting.
b) The list isn't bloated. There are some irrelevant options on there that I agree don't make a mainstream list, but for every one of those, there's a legit option I left off like Planescape, Myst, Age of Empires, Thief, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Worms, Grim Fandango, or System Shock. This is to say nothing of a myriad of sequels that I didn't bring up.

You're talking about a platform that is really more like a whole category of them. 10 years of gaming, spanning from late NES games to what may as well be early PS2. There's no way Dreamcast can compete with all that.

Now, I'm not saying Dreamcast isn't worthy of having a list. You can have a Dreamcast list. I don't care either way, although I certainly won't be able to come up with 20 for it, but don't pretend that there are as many classic titles on Dreamcast as there are on an entire decade of computer gaming.

I think you're missing my point.

That list is actually super nice for someone like me who has trouble remembering what we might have had. I think most 90 PC games at home were my dad's and thus I don't have them and I have revisited almost nothing since.

It certainly wasn't to get into an arms race with someone who seems to think Dreamcast can in any way compete.
