Board 8 > How important to you is saving your favorite Final Fantasy characters?

Thought I would post this on a day off. I reworded the second option from last year's topic and added another one to try to encompass more people.

I would rather die than fail.

I suddenly stopped caring about it entirely and I feel this has made my life substantially better

I just want to get Rosa above Porom at this point! Maybe a little higher.

I keep my phone nearby and save when I get the ping. That best fits option 1, but option 1 makes me sound obsessed.

like some reverse Cinderella, I cannot be outside my apartment once the clock strikes 12:00:00 lest one of my potential saves turns into a pumpkin.

It comes and goes

Start at a 3 before inevitably becoming a 2 and potentially a 1 if a character I like has a shot at a run late

Did I set up my phone to turn into an alarm clock when the ping dropped around top 10 last year? Perhaps

I offered to do this when certain people complained about the advantage I had as a host

but most people agreed that this is the host's privilege for having to put up with the rest of it

although that's technically money for saves, not money not to save

It's nice that lefty doesn't think doing all the work to host counts as going out of his way. :)

I voted #3. This year I've rarely timed my save perfectly - the only times I have were when I was literally about to head out the door. Both of those times I didn't find out who was eliminated until a couple hours after the fact. There's also a reason I don't save until page 2 over 50% of the time, and also a reason I only save once or twice a day. This was my goal for this year. My goal for next year is to be even less active.

It's a lot better for my mental health to be outside walking than it is to be worrying about the contest. I was outside walking all afternoon yesterday, and I felt GREAT!

Never understood the appeal. I just don't understand how a yearly contest with pretty much the exact same people participating can produce such drastically different results every year

Because people have multiple favorites, some people prioritize differently in different years. When somebody wins a contest (or makes the top 10 if they're a long shot), their fans tend to be satisfied and focus on boosting somebody else.

I would definitely not say we have drastically different results every year

baseball teams play each other 13 times a year but the games can vary wildly from one to the next! every pitch, every hit is akin to timing and appearances of those 'exact same people'.

actually this analogy isn't really that good since every baseball game is independent whereas every day in SMFFFC impacts the next day in some way, whether large of small, developing the massive cobweb of possibilities by contest's end.

he was in the smfffc with my mom when she was researching kompression just before she died

I care enough that I would wage war against a sovereign nation.

I love the stats the guys running the contest can spit out. Its truly remarkable. I play because they put so much love into it and its among the best run traditional contests this board has even seen.

That said I do not save because of the stats. I save because characters I like are still around. And if they are gone Ill save until the end based solely off of respect of the contest.

it's more like survivor than american idol. the backroom dealing, alliances, and betrayals can lead to characters getting pushed or dropped, and it can lead to lots of drama and unexpected results even if you think you know what's going to happen.
