The solution to the democrats/gop is unironically vote blue no matter who because with enough people and cycles of voting in democrats you make the gop realize that their garbage tier hate/fear mongering is not viable which actually opens the doors for more leftist politicians/policies. Make the demo the default right wing party and things will move quickly to the left.

If you're someone who wants a change, why would you choose Bernie over someone who is a LEGITIMATE Washington outsider, AND represents the opposition party to the party people are upset with?

Trump wasn't a legitimate washington outsider, though. He was someone who basically wined and dined with the insiders all the time. He and the Clintons were best friends before they became enemies.

Im still astonished at how much more Republicans seem to vocally despise Democrats than the other way around, and them being quick to jump to conclusions based solely on political affiliation makes it pretty clear why theres so much bigotry there.

Who LOOKS like the bigger outsider? The non-politician who the Democrats would have to say "Well ACTUALLY, he donated to the Clintons regularly, so really, he's just as much part of the swamp as anyone else"...which is a far more complex and nuanced argument than our peabrained populous can handle; or the politician who the GOP could hammer with "you've been in congress for twenty-five years and never changed anything before now"?

If you don't pay attention to anything, guy not in government is way more of an outsider than guy in government. Behind the scenes (or out in the open, but without the government title) has a big impact on appearances.

It's very different than running Hillary Clinton.

If the people don't want the status Quo primarily that doesn't mean that's the sole issue and if both feel adequate they'll actually consider the other aspects of the candidate

The methods of reaching them and the ability to amplify easy to digest nonsense reached a tipping point.

I've seen some people claiming that the Supreme Court's decree regarding presidential immunity is comparable to qualified immunity. So, before I deem these people morons, I do want to make sure I understand qualified immunity adequately. My understanding is that qualified immunity protects cops, judges, etc from civil lawsuits only; it offers no protection whatsoever against criminal charges. Is that right?

Because, if so, given that the Roberts Court has explicitly granted "absolute immunity from criminal prosecution for actions within [the President's] conclusive and preclusive constitutional authority", I do think that the distinction between "immune to civil lawsuits that cannot clear a high bar" and "immune to criminal charges that cannot clear a high bar" is pretty damned massive.

If I had never seen any material outside of the books maybe I would have assumed the best, assumed that Hermione was supposed to be depicted as being "in the right" during the SPEW plot. But there's archived writing from Rowling's own website that describes SPEW as a 'Hermione meant well, but she was too interfering.' (paraphrasing a little here, but not much).

Also...when the London stage play came on, they cast a black woman as Hermione (which Rowling approved of, to her credit). But then Rowling insinuated something along the lines of "maybe I always intended Hermione to be black", yeah, that...didn't really make the SPEW scenes read any better. So...now we're supposed to read those scenes as the one black girl in the class is horrified by slavery, wants it stopped, and she's surrounded by white students and teachers telling her she's overreacting, "doesn't understand", telling her that this is better for the elves actually, and telling her to "drop it". Uhh....

Comparing it to qualified immunity is a pretty strong indictment of the decision in and of itself anyway since qualified immunity shouldn't exist either.

Qualified immunity only applies wrt civil litigation AND it does not protect officials who violate "clearly established statutory or constitutional rights of which a reasonable person would have known."

I'll note separately that Presidents already had absolute immunity in civil litigation due to a Nixon case that reached SCOTUS so they already had stronger protections than qualified immunity for decades.

What the Roberts Court said yesterday was that POTUS has absolute criminal immunity wrt "core constitutional powers" and the presumption of immunity on the outer perimeter of "official acts." Furthermore, when determining what is an official act you are not allowed to examine the POTUS's motive whatsoever, an official act violating the law does not mean it stops being an official act, and if it is determined that something is an official act you may not use it as evidence - even in trying to prove something about a private act.

They are worlds apart.
