Most people's thoughts on this ranged from "mid" to "forgettable" to "outright bad." The praise on this case is generally about the (returning) cast and no Nahyuta. An interesting conversation came up that this case might do better if there's an AA7, as this is currently the final case chronologically. Summary: At the turn of the century in Meiji Japan, college student Ryunosuke Naruhodou finds himself on trial for the murder of a visiting English professor. With the help of fellow student Kazuma Asogi, can Ryunosuke save himself and begin a legacy of turnabouts? Main Characters: Ryunosuke Naruhodo, Kazuma Asogi, Yujin Mikatoba, Taketsuchi Auchi, The Japanese Judge, Susato Mikatoba Other Characters: John Wilson, Kyurio Korekuta, Iyesa Nosa, Satoru Hosonaga, Aido Nosa, Jezaille Brett My rating: 6.5/10. I really love GAA's cast right from the get-go. Ryunosuke and Kazuma is a really fun defense/assistant combination and Auchi is bringing the Rookie Crusher Payne vibes. This case in general has a lot of 3-1 vibes, which is why I like it quite a lot! I do think the case slows down pretty significantly at the steak portion, which is why it's not a 7/10. I also like the politics of the GAA world, which definitely makes an impact in this first case. --- I can't live forever With my head and my heart in the clouds ... Copied to Clipboard!

6/10 It's a really solid intro case that loses a point for me for the fact that the final act, with the whole plate swapping thing, is one of the worst segments ever. I knew what happened immediately and thought it was going to take one contradiction to point out but no, we had to bring the witnesses back in and everything for it and it just got interminable. Up to that point it was a solid 7/10! But no. Other than that, like, this case is remarkably good up until then imo, sincerely bordering on "best case in the game" material. Like, the murder mystery is pretty cool and has some interesting tricks, Jezaille Brett is a fun villain, and Ryunosuke is SO MUCH FUN here and his development is great. Ryunosuke really makes the first game. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Eh. 2.5/10
The poisoning method is fantastic. And the intrigue of having to usurp control from your lawyer is neat. But the witnesses suck (Hosonaga is ok I guess), and the last half hour of the trial is extremely frustrating because it's about such benign details. Also, taking down Brett is underwhelming at best, and even worse, pretty confusing your first run through the game, that requires completion of G2-5 to get any real explanation for. --- Play Outer Wilds ... Great introduction to Ryunosuke and Kazuma. Jezaille Brett is everything you'd want from a starter villain. Like a lot of modern AA, it goes on longer than it needs to, but it's a solid start to this duology. --- https://imgur.com/WqDcNNq https://imgur.com/89Z5jrB ... Copied to Clipboard!

6 I love how Ryunosuke looks so scared and cornered the entire time. He's a sweet bean of a young man. Unfortunately, this is another intro case that feels too long for such a short and simple mystery, and I swear Jezaille Brett is Quercus Alba's ancestor with how smug she is for feeling above the law ... She's unpleasant and awful, but not in the "why does this character exist" way, like Wesley Stickler or Ben&Trilo, so like I kinda dig it? I definitely blame the plate switching for making the case feel so long, god that was pretty stupid. I'm not really the biggest fan of the other NPCs (except Hosonaga) to be honest. I like that the they took the multiple witnesses angle from the crossover game, but I do think that sometimes it's a little harder giving each character their time in the spotlight. ... I think this case is a great introduction to the game's themes and characters, and shows how things are (somewhat) more grounded here than in the mainline entries. The presentation is a big step up on the other games, too. Ryunosuke and Kazuma are fleshed out well really quickly, and they waste no time delving into the game's political backdrop. Showing the British Empire from the Japanese POV was a wise way to start the game, and I imagine going back to this after playing through both games would be rewarding, there's a lot that's set up here. The murder mystery itself is of course very simple, being a tutorial, and it goes on half an hour past its natural stopping point with the very silly plate switcheroo. I don't care for Nosa or Korekuta, either. But Auchi is the most I've liked a Paine by a long shot, and Jezaille is a terrific villain, drinking her own poison like that was an impressive move. 7/10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJcpVk54JLE (Woo this topic series finally got to GAA, I haven't voted on anything before now as it's been years since I've played the other games and it didn't feel right to judge them.) ... GAAC is a weird game in general for me in that the game feels greater than the sum of its parts - like, the overall presentation, the character animations, etc are just of a completely different class compared to every other AA game and that's a big part of the game's appeal, but none of either game's cases make it into my top ten based on their actual content (one of them is my #11 case but still). ... I think I will like it more on replay since I have even more of a fondness for the characters now (and they were good from the start!) so I won't mind going through something like 1-2 (or 1-3) again. 1-4 will probably still be rough but at least it has Gregson's theme. ... Copied to Clipboard!
