Their mom and grandma are super right wing Christians and they do Christian homeschool.

And asked if they had learned what critical thinking was. They said no never heard of it, so I taught them and now the grandma is complaining that they said the Bible may not be right on evolution

The Bible doesnt say anything about evolution. The people who are using that book interpreted the Bible a certain way and just rejected evolution because they couldnt or wouldnt make it fit with their beliefs.

That is the real problem. You dont have to be Christian OR believe evolution is a real thing. Thinking in dichotomies sucks so much and is the source of so many societal problems. Im glad you are educating your nieces

We know for a fact that he taught them to question the religious indoctrination on evolution they were being fed, and with the pic in the OP it's pretty obvious he did the right thing because they were being indoctrinated with objectively false information.

I disagree. I think it's always a good idea when the "disruption" is preventing mental manipulation of children. What exactly do you want, for him to move in with them for 6 months to make sure the lessons on critical thinking are solidified for the rest of their lives? He taught them to think critically and now the mom/grandma will have to learn how to defend their faith from critical thinking, instead of just indoctrinating these girls into never questioning or asking questions. If they're old enough to text they can always just message/ask him questions as well.

I will always support someone trying to break religious indoctrination to the same degree I would support someone trying to break racist/bigoted indoctrination. Based off what little he's told of the grandma, it doesn't sound like they'd be raising these girls to be sterling examples of Christians, just the kind who plug their fingers in their ears when people start countering faith with facts and going "lalalalala". I consider that harmful for people and always support efforts to end it.

I see it as looking out for the mental health of his nieces.

No, because no one had any idea how biology worked back then, and it wasn't because these were dumb people, but because we have the benefit of thousands of more years of scientific inquiry and discovery.

So it's not that the Bible says anything about evolution, it's that the observations and scientific theories crafted around evolution do not fit the Bible narrative of the creation myth.

Eh.... no evolution is a real thing whether you believe in it or not. That's the real problem. You can believe whatever you like, but it won't make it so you aren't an ape descended from a lineage of mammals shared by other great apes and primates.

We have evidence of evolution now, it's not just speculation... we can even observe it to some degree with fruit flies.
