Not everyone feels the same. Back in the U.S., Palestinian and Arab Americans have expressed outrage over Bidens response to Israels bombardment of Gaza, which has killed more than 8,000 people, more than a quarter of them children. The first national poll of Arab Americans since the war in Gaza began shows how deep that sense of betrayal goes, with only 17% of Arab American voters saying they will vote for Biden in 2024a staggering drop from 59% in 2020.

This is the most dramatic shift over the shortest period of time that Ive ever seen, James Zogby, the founder and president of the Arab American Institute, which released the poll on Tuesday, tells TIME.

The damage isnt limited to Biden: Just 23% of Arab Americans identify with the Democratic Party, marking the first time a majority did not claim to prefer the Democrats since the institute began tracking party identification in 1996. Those identifying as Independents rose to 31%, the highest its ever been.

Nah, it won't. The Arab Muslim population, while growing, is still too small to matter much. The only place where this might make a difference is MI, but there are other factors at play there that make me believe that whatever negativity he gets from supporting Israel will be negated in that state.

The guy who would benefit from that literally wants to have them all thrown out of the country. I get they are upset but they'd be cutting their own throats. The best course of action would be to have leaders sit down with Biden, not help Trump win by sitting on the sidelines and damning themselves.

Remember Democrats divided between Hillary and Bernie, and it cost her the election.
Biden can't afford losing vote before Trump goes to jail.

Hillary running the laziest and most entitled fucking campaign in history cost Hillary the election. Picking Tim Kaine during a massive upswell in populist politics cost Hillary the election. Bernie voters did not cost Hillary the election.

I mean, as dumb and counter productive as that would be, if they don't feel like one party is gonna go to bat for them, then they're either gonna go for the other party or abstain. The smug sense of "well who else are they gonna vote for" only goes so far until election day turns into a god damn disaster

Will it in terms of electoral chances? Jewish Americans are what about twice as many as Arab Americans.

IIRC Arab and Muslim americans are about 1% the population. Jewish Americans are around 2%.

If this solidifies or raises support among Jews then he may break even or ne boosted overall

From their point of view, it is quite literally, exactly, voting for the lesser evil. Whether you or me would agree about which is the lesser evil is another question, of course.

Biden saying essentially that 'shit happens' was probably his biggest mistake of his entire presidency. It came across as callous and dismissive of legitimate concerns.

The white house has botched this thing considerably. You have secretaries asking foreign dignitaries to change the channel because they don't want to see news networks speaking unfavorably about Israel, you have them sending out guidelines to not criticize Israel. Biden calling himself a zionist. Telling Netanyahu when they first met, that they could do no wrong.

So many unforced errors on Biden and the administration. I truly don't get it.

Yeah but even if the Dems are not perfect they are not going to support the party claiming they aren't even true Americans, that their religion should be banned, and think all of them are terrorists.

Not voting I get and that will hurt Biden but I just can't see them thinking the GOP would be better.

I can see them sitting out. I just can't see them voting for someone who would be far worse for them.

I think Biden would be a better choice than not voting and I would ask them to vote for Biden regardless.
But, they can vote their conscious by abstaining if they want. I just think it'd be a bad idea.

Not getting kicked out of the fucking country along with your family to somewhere that you'll maybe die seems to be a good reason to probably vote for the person who can at least be reasoned with. This isn't a fucking hard concept to grasp.

This is not a matter of irrationality. Stop treating Arab Americans like they're literally too stupid to understand that Trump hates Arabs more than Biden or whatever. The point of voicing your disapproval in a democracy is to convince candidates to change in order to earn your vote.

They don't want to vote or they want to for for a Republican. It is short sighted and against their current and future interest based on what actual Republican political members are saying. Republicans have been far more hawkish against Palestine than Democrats.

They can abstain from voting next year if they truly feel they must based on their conscious. But it risks having a Republican in office and no chance for a democratic president until 2028. That's the tradeoff and it's ultimately up to them to make that tradeoff. And yes, it is short sighted.

But hell, maybe they think this will make future Democrat presidents (in 2028) and later be less friendly to Israel, so hell, they might be looking into the future more than I'm assuming. But hey, it's a gamble they'll have to take
