It was nice to be part of the previous topic but I gave just about every motivational quote, quip, and nutritional tip I know (all of which have helped me tremendously) throughout almost the entire thread so I don't have much else to add but congrats again those making progress. I wish all of you luck. If you want it bad enough - and the time is right - it will happen for you.

I'm certainly no expert but I'm very enthusiastic about this stuff and I hoped to spread that enthusiasm because once it finally clicked it was all so life changing for me.

Here are my starting and current stats:

Starting weight: 261 lbs
Current weight: 244 lbs
Weight loss: 17 lbs
Starting workout frequency: 0 days/week
Current workout frequency: at least 3 days/week
Cut out fries. Had them one time in the past month and that was small.
Only one cup a tea a day. (I from the South so you know it is sweet lol).

Goals for this month: At least 7 pounds lost. Work out 4 times a week unless my foot hurts like it does today.

Issue is Ill just keep eating until I run out

Allegedly thats a side effect of lexapro which Ive been on nearly two years, and the majority of my weight gain happened after I started taking it.

Im getting off it though. Should be done next week.

5"8

My heaviest was 240, I dropped that down to a sustainable 210 and dropped it further to 194. I really really really want to get to 170, I promised myself a gift that I've been holding off on years to act as encouragement. Beyond that I still need to lose another 15ish pounds before I'm not even considered overweight and I don't understand how little I would have to eat to make this work.

Obviously I need to exercise but damn is it hard to find the time.

A question for everyone.

I'm currently sick. I've got a head/chest cold thing going on. LOTS of post-nasal drip and just all around feeling a little rough.

When you're sick, do you just put on the brakes for your workouts and whatnot? Do you maybe try to do something a little lighter? Or do you just kinda grind through it so long as you aren't gonna like, puke your guts out or get so tired/light headed you might end up fall over?

Don't do strenuous exercise while sick. Take it easy. You don't want to be adding extra stress and exertion while your body is trying to heal.

I am very sick, as well as not being able to walk. So I have stop working out and cooking. I went to a fast food place today. Because that was the only place near me that I didn't have to get out of my car. So I try my best, but when I am really down I can't stay on it fully. However with said. I just had 900 calories so I am not bigging out.

Im currently sidelined to where I can only really take a walk for exercise, but I already achieved my weight goal, so Im trying to keep in shape and tone back up. I like chin-ups and sit-ups, but my hand and ribs are still too hurt from falling off my bike (five weeks ago today) to do those exercises and it snowed the other day, so riding my bike is probably out for the year. So it really sucks when you mentally get into fitness mode and then get hurt.

I lost 90lbs and my advice is to be patient and dont get angry at yourself for not seeing results overnight. If you need to, then indulge from time to time. Walking and riding my bike are the exercise that lost me almost 100 lbs and the dietary changes were to monitor sugar, salt, calories, and I personally quit alcohol.

Youre definitely not supposed to do much strenuous activity as it just makes you be sick for longer. That said, I still generally do something. Like I'll make the week into a proper active recovery week where I'll do around half the reps I normally do. Like many lifters, I've got some body dysmorphia going on though so it comes from a not great place. To give you an idea, I did this through a bout with covid.

So unless you're full on beat up from your sickness, a five or ten minute walk is probably good for you to get your blood going a bit and just move around but doing anything that's a real workout isn't ideal.

I did my official weigh-in for the week. Im 245, so I only gained one pound. Thats not as bad as I expected. But I still need to get back on track with my weight loss goals.

I have some family members visiting who are not supportive. They keep complaining about how Im trying to lose weight. They nag me constantly.

They say things like, Youre not eating enough, you need more of this or that. Youre doing it wrong, you should follow my advice. I think to myself, thank goodness I dont have an eating disorder. The way my family members treat me would push me over the edge. (and I honestly mean that)

So heres my plan. Im going to resume working out. I can walk again, and if I can walk, I can work out. This morning, Ill do some Switch Boxing while Im not busy with WFH tasks. Thats how Ill start my day. Then tonight, Ill finally try the Ring Adventure game that I bought. In between, I have to call my Chair and explain why I havent been productive lately. And I also have to write that special post that I promised.

I also need to clean my turtle tank. Since I have not been able to walk, my filter stopped working and my tank is not clean. My guys should have pretty water not some brown shit.

Its going to be a long day.

First Friday Recipe
On the menu today is Shrimp Fried Rice with Chicken Wings.

Let's get started with that you will need for the Chicken Wings.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/d/dc3811ea.jpg

Ingredients:
  • chicken wings
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon MSG (commonly referred to as "Accent" in the US)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder or granulated garlic (not Garlic Salt)
  • 2 tablespoons Shaoxing cooking wine
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce This one is always up in the air for me. Sometimes it can really mess with the over all taste when you are cooking, other times it is on point. And I dont know what the variable is. Any who I have two types. Kikkoman the old school favor or Pear River.
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch ( I 100 % forgot in the cook tonight and they still turned out fine. But I am going to keep it in here.)
Instructions:
  1. Marinating the Wings:
  • Place the chicken wings in a suitable container that can be refrigerated.
  • Sprinkle the white pepper, freshly ground black pepper, MSG, garlic powder (or granulated garlic), and Shaoxing cooking wine over the wings.
  • Mix the ingredients thoroughly to ensure the wings are evenly coated.
  • Cover the container and refrigerate the marinating wings. For optimal flavor, marinate them overnight. However, 30 minutes will suffice if you're short on time.
  1. Preparing the Air Fryer:
  • Preheat your air fryer to 400F (200C) for 5 minutes.
  1. Coating the Wings:
  • Remove the marinated wings from the refrigerator.
  • Sprinkle a light coating of cornstarch over the wings. Be mindful not to overdo it, as we're not breading them. This step adds a crispy texture while keeping the recipe on the healthier side.
  1. Air Frying the Wings:
  • Place the coated wings in the preheated air fryer basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded.
  • Cook at 400F (200C) for 20-25 minutes, turning the wings halfway through the cooking process to ensure even crispiness. The exact time may vary depending on your air fryer model and wing size, so monitor them closely.
  1. Serving:
  • Once the wings are golden brown and cooked through, remove them from the air fryer.
  • Make sure they are at 160 degrees.

Now let's get that fried rice.

5 oz of shrimp (equivalent to a little less than 2 servings)
1/2 teaspoon Accent seasoning
1/2 teaspoon pepper
A pinch of celery salt (exercise caution due to salt content)
1 tablespoon of stir-fry oil
Garlic, shallots, and carrots for aromatics
2 eggs or liquid egg whites
2 cups of your preferred rice (Jasmine rice works wonderfully)
Soy sauce to taste
Green onions for garnish
Instructions:

Preparing the Shrimp:

Begin by marinating the shrimp with Accent seasoning, pepper, and a pinch of celery salt to enhance the flavor. Remember not to overdo it on the salt due to the salt content in Accent and celery salt.
Cook the shrimp for approximately 4 minutes on each side, ensuring they are perfectly cooked. Once done, set the shrimp aside for later use.
Cooking the Aromatics:

In a pan, heat up the stir-fry oil and add your aromatics: carrots, shallots, and garlic. Start with the carrots as they require more time to cook, followed by shallots, and finish with garlic.
Be attentive to the garlic as it should not turn brown, as this may affect the final taste of the dish.
Once the aromatics are nicely toasted, set them aside. You can use the same bowl in which you placed the cooked shrimp.
Preparing the Eggs:

Utilize liquid egg whites from a carton or traditional egg whites for this step.
In the same stir-fry oil, cook the eggs, ensuring they are perfectly scrambled.
Incorporating the Rice:

Add your choice of rice to the pan and allow it to cook for a brief period.
Gradually introduce soy sauce to taste, followed by the cooked shrimp, scrambled eggs, and the aromatic blend.
Final Touches:

To add a pop of color and freshness, garnish the dish with finely chopped green onions.
