Enies Lobby is where the pacing starts to fall off in the anime, yeah. Probably a good time to move to the manga. Though the next arc has a certain song that absolutely needs to be listened to, so maybe watch the anime for it too.

Also the point of Lucci fight is that the guy is strong enough to kill anyone in the SH crew, and considering how tired they are, probably the whole crew combined. If Luffy doesn't beat him, they are dead.

I get that in theory, it just felt a bit... disconnected from the narrative somehow. Like the actual objective of them being there was achieved by everyone else, and Luffy was functionally acting as a distraction for Lucci. I guess that's fine, it was just strange.

The thing is power scaling in One Piece is a form of political and military power, so whether your side has someone who can win fights against people on the other side is everything.

I finished Thriller Bark.

I liked it a lot actually. I felt it didn't outstay its welcome and it didn't have that long, spread out, tedious section that Ennies Lobby had (though I acknowledge that might have just been because I was watching the anime, not reading the manga). It just generally felt tight and focused and I appreciated that a lot (I guess I could have done without the Nami marriage thing). That said, it didn't have anything to match Ennies Lobby/Water 7's many highs (I guess the Zoro/Kuma bit near the end would be up there) so it's not as good an arc overall. But there was never a point where I was bored with it.

It also had Robin being embarrassed as a human being, so thumbs up for that

I watched both dub and sub for that clip, and found them both hilarious in different ways which I appreciate

I think Sabaody is short and hype enough to watch it in the anime.

Impel Down is DEFINITELY manga, Marineford could be both I guess.

Personally not too fond of TB, I just think the villains are kinda bland. Moria is okay and Perona has some fun stuff, but overall they're pretty uninteresting. At least Hogback gives Chopper some nice development.

Impel Down is a great arc but is really bad in the anime. And MF is even worse, at that point I can't imagine anyone enjoying the anime.

Sabaody was fine in the anime though.

Oh, and if you haven't watched the anime version of Binks' Sake, you should do that

Ftr everyone I have gotten into the show loved watching Marineford. Ive also followed like half a dozen reactors who all loved it. It's an amazing arc however you experience it.

You can 100% enjoy watching it. Heck, I still love watching it.

Its much better watching it now when you can binge rather than week to week of course.

I think the Marineford anime is still quite good. it's the two or three arcs after Marineford that are absolutely brutal to watch the anime as opposed to reading. those are where the pacing really slows down without the same increase in quality that you see in the latest arcs. From Punk Hazard through Dressrosa is in particular the biggest slog for me in the anime.

Well maybe I'm an outlier, but to me Marineford was just painful. The anime had gotten too close to the manga so they had to make sure most of the anime scenes were non-canon.

Usually each episode went like this:

Opening.
Recap of previous episode's minor cliffhanger.
Cliffhanger gets solved.
3 second face shots of 10 different characters reacting.
Multiple shots of random marines and pirates killing each other.
Non-canon Buggy gag scene that is only slightly different from the ones that played in the previous 15 episodes.
Luffy hells ACEEEEE
More shots of random marines and pirates killing each other.
Actual manga content (< 2 minutes)
Another 3 second face shots of 10 different characters reacting.
Non-canon Hancock gag scene that is only slightly different from the ones that played in the previous 15 episodes.
Luffy yells ACEEEEE again
A new minor cliffhanger
Episode ends.

Marineford was also the first arc I watched having already read the manga for it. Because I was starting to hang out with online OP fandom so I was getting spoiled about it left and right, so one day I just went and read all of ID and MF and caught up.

So maybe already knowing the plot did reduce the novelty a little. Who knows.

It was also the last anime arc I finished. And from what I hear about post-timeskip anime, this was a great decision.

I'll stick with the manga. I largely enjoyed the Ennies Lobby anime but there was one episode when Spandam triggered the Buster Call and literally nothing else happened, and that actively infuriated me.

For reference, Enies Lobby has a chapter/episode ratio of 56:41. Marineford's is 1:1 if you don't count the two recap episodes at the start. In other words, each episode is one chapter's worth of content on average.

I already started feeling some of the rot in EL when the anime spent so much time showing fodder characters fighting each other, but it's also one of the greatest arcs ever so it didn't bother me as much. Enough for me to have Water 7 as my favorite arc instead of EL, though.
