It's not a great arc in the manga/anime, but choosing Sham & Buchi over Jango is an odd choice, Usopp's bravery is completely underwhelming and while Luffy is a nicer guy in the live-action...Usopp just doesn't really deserve it here. Zoro's backstory was kinda shuffled in without really fitting or having been done well (it really should've included the line of him vowing that he will become the greatest swordsman in the world so his name will reach the heavens as THAT is an oath you can get behind giving away your family heirloom.) It meant a lot more to me when he emotionally stated his oath and the master chose to give him the sword to carry on his daughters memory. It felt more like an "eh i guess here you go" in the live action. They've made him too much like post-timeskip Zoro; he's supposed to be a little bit looser, a little bit more arrogant. In general, it's a diversion from the source material, and might not really have been necessary. I found a lot of the tension in the manga to be confusing and muddling at best. Jango being cut isn't too bad because everything he adds to the manga has been cut. I really like the setting of the fight being Kaya's mansion as opposed to a random beach and forest. I also really like Kaya and Usopp's relationship being developed more. Meri dying makes more sense than him not dying. I've never been a fan of the set up running all over the island and of the final showdown by the beach or whatever where they fight Kuro and his crew, it just seems like a mess and that Luffy should be more affected by getting cut up so much. The biggest thing I miss is the "he goes so fast he cuts up his own crew and doesnt even care" bit, but the Freddy Krueger mansion stalking was a wayyyyyyyyyyy better use of Kuro. Jango is great, but it would be tough to include him without making him the star of episodes. Not really enough room to share the stage with Kuro, and would require a lot more screentime to split the pirates into a mansion group and an outside group, so they just kept the henchmen as helpers in the mansion. I do wish Usopp had gotten a bit more of an opportunity to do something - stand up for himself or Kaya, and to actually do something useful fighting wise. His one little sling shot wasn't much. RyoCaliente 09/29/23 1:32:46 PM #207:	I'm not super invested in the Usopp/Kaya relationship, as Kaya is not a prominent part of the story (while Usopp is) and considering Merry died, it's weird for Usopp to essentially abandon Kaya (in the way Yasopp did his family, although Kaya is at least older than Usopp was). I also personally love the beach, as it shows a little bit of (failed) tactics, while this show turned it into only combat. That allows Usopp to stand up and vow to protect Syrup Village, which gives him the respect of Luffy, Zoro, and Nami. Grappling with his own cowardly nature is one of the best things about Usopp, so it sucks they didn't show that he actually was going to do it, and then changed his mind after being successful. XIII_Rocks 09/29/23 6:07:58 PM #209:	I rewatched the series and 3/4 are definitely the weakest two episodes Usopp's actor is comfortably the worst of the five and he's having to do a lot of the lifting, and I kind of didn't buy the Kuro fights because it...just felt like he could kill them at any moment? Like Zoro getting KOd and not being stabbed to death, his failure to kill Nami or Kaya, and the fact that he charges at Usopp and just like, bats him away rather than killing him had me scratching my head. He didn't seem the kind of character to only kill when necessary, so just like...kill them, then. And definitely check that the famous bounty hunting swordsman is dead, ffs. Also the show had a weird habit of cutting to Luffy's grinning mug for like a second before he dodged an attack, and it always took me out of it a bit, and it was worse in the Kuro fight than any other time. The fights with Arlong were better for that. ~~That and the Zoro flashbacks were the weakest of the flashbacks.~~ ~~Those episodes still had a lot I liked though. Zoro vs the two pirates went a surprisingly long time but it was really good. Mackenyu is~~ ~~probably~~ the best of the cast because he's just so... credible in the action scenes. The current theory is that the aforementioned duo was on that ship, and with Devon's fruit she could potentially disguise herself as anyone. A few chapters ago people were suspicious of Bonney since Luffy pointed out that she had a sudden mood shift overnight, but it looks like I was right that it was because of what she saw in Kuma's memories and not because she was replaced. --- It's tempting to linger in this moment, while every possibility still exists.
