There will be two matches a day, as a reminder we're voting for the Opening or Ending as the show aired.
Each match will last the standard 24 hours from when the topic has been posted.

Feels like Unravel should've been a 16 seed by virtue of its miracle entry, instead gets the lucky 9 seed slot, I am jealous!

some of these round 1 matches are just brutal

feels like at least a few of these might actually go in favour of the bottom seeds, since they're lowkey some of the best ones...

I have no clue as to what will actually do well.
I guess I'm surprised at how many "classics" are missing or which picks for certain series got in.

Like, I'm never gonna say anything bad about Ranbu no Melody, but for me Change is the one since the OP starts playing in my head as soon as I see that still of Orihime.

i'm surprised nobody took the wakeshima kanon wixoss bait of all my noms tbh, i thought that had a niche here (guess everybody completely stopped caring about wixoss here years ago). likewise had been going for koufuku graffiti since that was one of the only rasmus faber songs (and one of the many sakamoto maaya songs and shaft openings) i thought people liked here, didn't really expect rinne no lagrange stuff to be more popular now (overall not too surprised neither could make it in since they're all a bit old now)

that aside i feel sorry for kara no kokoro though getting a 1 seed just to have to face lucky star day 1

also ones like catch you catch me 11 seed, flyers also 11 seed, psycho pass ed as 12, and flcl/spice and wolf/spyxfam/flip flappers all 14s are a big mood (am concerned for database especially here...). and stuff like shadowgraph is way stronger than it probably looks too imo, railgun vs it is a scary match no matter what side you take

(oh yeah, also the big dance off with kongming vs perfect insider is going to be so much fun, i'm so glad that matchup is happening)

What are the supposed killer matches for Round 1?

Magia/Oddtaxi, Kuso Rumba/Shinzou wo Sasageyo, 99.9/Flyers

Stand out for me, but for others it could be completely different matchups.

agree on all three of those examples lol, i'd also say memories/flip flap is going to be a nailbiter too even if both are underdogs compared to 99.9/flyers

no idea if database can make it out of its 4pack, all i can say is it won't be wiseman

shiki no uta/hadaka no yuusha is also a stellar match and it's unfortunate they both die to eva

oh yeah and ride on shooting star is probably going to lose to wild side but probably could've taken a lot of the rest of the bracket comfortably (rip)

lastly kawaki wo ameku vs unravel is kinda fucked ngl (i'm not super into either opening myself i like kawaki wo ameku as a song but actively don't care for its visuals (or the series it's connected to), and the reverse can be said for unravel, in that i like other TK songs more than it but i think others are a lot)

wait i only just realised the nom has said Kawaki NO Ameku all this time lol can't believe nobody else caught that either

I do wonder what people look for most in a OP/ED, music or animation. Just hope a song doesn't win only because it's the from most watched show

Although I of course plan to vote based solely on what I can see of the video and not any other factors, it's certainly true that you get more from an OP or ED visually if you know the series in question. That's why I biased my own nominations towards quirkier animations that weren't necessarily good at representing the show but could hopefully be more easily appreciated without knowledge of it. Not sure that's going to pan out though.

I had pet entries but I might not always vote them tbh. I just wanted to see them get love

For EDs I'll heavily favour a good dance, like say the one in Hare Hare Yukai, but I usually prefer lower key EDs after an action packed ep or something to match the hook on a cliffhanger. Roundabout used to fit Jojo episode endings so well.

OPs I'll factor in the animation pretty heavily as I want it to sell me on the show or make me look forward to the episode. I swear Crossing Field is half the reason why I stuck by SAO.

Ah damn I just looked at the bracket and realized Ready Steady Go is against the Ergo Proxy OP (never knew what its name was before)

From what I can see, unless I'm missing something (like the Ergo Proxy OP) there's only 3 round one matchups where I've watched both the series of the songs in the matchup and that's one. Period/Kid and Zetsubou Billy/Color being the other two. Not sure if that's bad RNG odds again considering how little I've watched or not.

My Ready Steady Go doublenom looking so much more fragile now damn.... maybe it still wins but love that Ergo Proxy OP, even if I wasn't a fan of the series by the end of it. Well, will need to rewatch both when the round goes up and make a call then I guess.

Early days but even though we're getting a blowout and a closeish match per day, I have absolutely no idea what this means for next round.
For all I know the close encounter was just between two super top tier OP/EDs

Tbh I think Wild Side will run away with matches until it has to face either Hikaru Nara (probably) or Magia.

I was really hoping Kiri would be a little stronger, but I guess it winning a match at all (even if it was against one of the other few things I actually nominated...) is nice enough.

kiri's my favourite song in the bracket so i still pray it can pull off the impossible upset (though honestly, i'm not sure if i'd expect it to do as well as flcl)

Despite pushing it heavily for a few years in the Save My contest, I doubt I've influenced more than a small handful of people to even check out the anime it's from. As a song I feel it really stands on its own, but this contest isn't just about that.

Honestly I assumed it actually was a series that was on Toonami at the time as well (and therefore would've had solid exposure in its own right) since I remembered that I'd definitely seen it on tv originally myself. Turns out it had just been on a normal channel, and specifically only in australia, and had been airing one of the times i just happened to be over there for a while. Oh well...

I'm glad the Engaged to the Unidentified OP, Tomadoi Recipe, at least didn't get blown out! I was expecting the worst, but it put up a good fight.

On the other hand, I was expecting Realize to be stronger than it was, so I'm sad to see it go.
