I suppose in theory, this is the strongest bracket, so the field being filled with heavy hitters should be expected. I'm not even sure which side of the bracket is considered to be the more stacked field.

Well, I accidentally deleted my favorites prediction bracket (I chose the wrong one in a match and stupidly thought "delete this prediction" would only erase the last one I put in, whoops). Still, both of my finals entrants are already eliminated (it would've been shadowgraph > Tomadoi Recipe) so I suppose it's no big loss.

I'm 100% going to watch Boogiepop now, too. I just hope the anime is as good as its OP!

Yeah, some wonky matches here and there, but which glaring omissions for an OP contest would you point to?

biggest omissions are probably Tank! and Toki wo Kizamu Uta, which somehow were neglected for lesser entries from their own series

Having Memories instead of We Are was an odd choice by the nominators

I felt like we had too much stuff from a few shows, like One Piece and Death Note. Overall, though, it was a good field. I've discovered some new favorite OPs that have driven me to watch their shows. Unfortunately, both Ranking of Kings and Boogiepop haven't lived up to the greatness of their OPs as of a few episodes in, but I'm enjoying them both enough to at least finish them.

3 of the 7 shows I nominated in are still here, including Flyers. I'm genuinely impressed that it made that comeback!

Well I did nom Clannad After Story but uh all the Lia songs split themselves out of the field woops.

You certainly wouldn't want to give me the power to design my own bracket of 64 favs!
Would have perhaps had more variety, but most of the field would have been stinkers.

(As evidenced by any OP I post in the discord)

Went 1-6 on my noms (after what's up people loses) and the 1 was against another nom, and based on how things have gone don't like its chances next round. Yeah...

The one I found the most enjoyment was Chiki Chiki Ban Ban and I remember that anime premise from a previous Robazoid writeup. Probably the closest to a "could watch based on OP" situation for me.

oh as for the other question, the Zombieland Saga S2 OP is easily my favorite thing I hadn't seen before

I've found that the majority of the stuff that was nominated was vastly different to my tastes! Not necessarily a bad thing but there were really only a few songs that I wasn't familiar with that made me go "damn that's a banger!" I can't complain though as I didn't have time to really sit down and do nominations at the time. But definitely enjoying the contest!

Chiki Chiki Ban Ban had me laughing throughout so I'm rooting for it to win, and I'll certainly watch Kongming. I made a note of it from Robazoid's writeups, so I'll have to find it and move it up the list.

I didn't have much luck with nominations, as Ambiguous was the only one of mine to make it past the randomizer (RIP Brave Shine and Papermoon), and it lost in round 1. At least it was one of the closer matches.

I didn't participate in nominations so I can't complain too much about the field. Off the top of my head, I'd have tried to get Tank (Cowboy Bebop), Rise (Ghost in the Shell), Wareta Ringo (From the New World), and something from Gankutsuou or Mushishi in. No clue what stuff is popular to call them glaring omissions, but they are for me

I've enjoyed the contest so far. Nothing really shocked me as to the entrants, but it did remind me I should check out Re:Creators eventually.

Wareta Ringo was brought up as an ED that woulda been neat to see.

WOW WAR TONIGHT probably the big one for song I was unfamilar with that I ended up enjoying.

The pool doesn't contain a lot of curveballs and seems to be mostly populated by what users were already familiar with, which is always boring as hell. One way to mitigate this would have been to require users to post the animethemes link for each of their noms, so that we aren't just posting lists of stuff people have never heard of and don't have the time to manually seek out. Also think the nom window was way too brief, and maintain that asserting we vote on the merits of song and animation was a detriment overall (hate to be so stubborn about this, but it seriously irks me even now). Real Folk Blues is my favorite song in the bracket but its fate is pretty much sealed next round because [[it's just a slideshow]].

Yeah, if we only voted on the song, there'd be no point in tying this to OPs/EDs at all. We could just have a Japanese song contest instead (or, since not all anime use Japanese songs, just a song contest I guess).

Speaking as someone who lost one of their favorite OPs to the slideshow Real Folk Blues, I think people aren't considering animation enough!

yeah, i definitely agree with this one. for EDs, i've listened to GET WILD a million times now, but after reading up on the series i think i have zero interest in it.

It would have been nice if the nomination period was longer. I ended up missing the whole thing.

I felt like having a nomination period like VGMC was a bit pointless anyway. If we do something like this in future I'd just take a certain number of entrants from everyone.

Yeah, I missed the nomination period too because I didn't notice it until it was over. Some songs I would've added to the bracket would be Tank! from Bebop, rise from Ghost in the Shell: SAC, Kiseki no Umi from Record of Lodoss War, Duvet from Lain, and for the love of live from Monster. The field was pretty good as it was though, just had a bit too much One Piece and Death Note. Kid and Dream Island Obsessional Park were my favorite discoveries.

Having a bigger field would be cool for sure. I'm sad to have missed noms.

I'm usually more about the songs, but having a contest where you judge on the animation too is interesting and different.

Glad to see it getting solid participation so far.

Great point. Then, I guess it's less that song + animation is an issue and more that I would rather participate in an anime music contest outright.

Yeah I think they're just different contests, either of which I would enjoy. Though, I don't view even this contest as judging song and animation like they're 2 categories on a checklist--I just view it as judging the entrants as openings/endings to a television show rather than as songs.

I like the field overall. Some things I don't like but I think there's a pretty good mix of stuff. I knew like 2/3 of these before but I guess my best discovery is probably the Domestic Girlfriend OP.

No idea on misses but I guess I think there's a lot more Monogatari stuff that could probably make it in. Also Kogarashi Sentiment was robbed in noms.

I would have put a cap on the number of entries per a series to like 2, I think this only affects one piece here though.

From experience in like doing a panel for this for the reddit anime awards, the average person 100% is more skewed by the song rather than the animation (even if the rules explicitly say to judge for both), don't get me wrong, the panel 100% tries for both, but the skew is still there.

I think a big standout for me is that even though there are alot of good picks here, in many cases they are not even the best ones from their own series (at least I dont think they are). I think Great Days is a big standout because JoJo has a lot of good OPs (like Fighting Gold and Bloody Stream). But even Period from FMAB over Again (which is probably closer than other ones) or Ready Steady Go! vs Rewrite are debatable. Also, Sister's Noise is 100% better than Only My Railgun.

Cap of 2 would've also impacted Death Note, which would've put it at 0-2 rather than 0-3 so probably for the best...

what's funny is I remember voltch calling both these out, I'm pretty sure in the nominations topic, but he cited Again and Melissa as snubs and those were each always dead last songs for me for each respective series. Though this contest has already demonstrated how outside the norm I am, but yeah...

Rewrite probably is the best original FMA one but RSG just hits so hard on the nostalgia factor (and it already had one nom so I threw my double on top of that - what could have been!)

This totally made my day (right as I'm about to go to sleep), makes forcing Kid into the contest feel all the more worth it! Glad you liked it. and if you liked Dream Island Obsessional Park I'd definitely recommend checking out the Paprika OST (if not watching Paprika itself - it's great!), it's composed by Susumu Hamauzu and has a few earworms I still remember to this day like... 16 or 17 years later, damn.
