Yeah the Fang elimination was pretty bland. Also is Reno not even making the contest a 1,000,000 on the Scoville ranking? I'm with Martin. Former champ elimination is only spicy if they had the support and the elimination was a fluke because of a missing saver or something. The Tidus support was not there this time around, but maybe I'll be feeling it next contest. Who knows?

Ok, I just did the math. This has been a historically bad showing for FFX this contest. We aren't even at the halfway point in the contest, but if we assume the remaining two entrants make it through, that will be the lowest amount of FFXers in the upper half since contest V, where top 30 was the cutoff for upper half.

Since contest XIV, when the tourney expanded to 100 entrants, FFX has averaged 6.2 top half placements over the 11 contests (not including this one). FFX has had no fewer than 4 in the top half during that time and that happened only once. It has had as many as 8.

So only getting 2 in the top half is, quite frankly, a record low showing for FFX.

That being said yes Tidus is spicy imo

But IMO it's like saying "ooh spicy" about a jar of hot sauce that is called spicy sauce with a giant pepper on it and boldly says how spicy it is all over the bottle

No shit it's spicy good observations chief. The label was clearly visible for like 30 rounds now.

It's not surprising at all this year.

I'm not sure where you're gathering that. Tidus had like no main supporter this year, it's amazing he limped around this long. Seymour inherits all 0 of Tidus mains though, I'm stoked.

Haha, I had the same thought. What's funny is that during Seymour's deep runs, I felt like his biggest competition, or obstacle, was other FFXers that were still in the contest. So in theory a silver lining would be that Seymour will have more breathing room going down the stretch, but the reality is that the appetite for FFX is so low this season among the voter pool that I don't think it matters. Even Rikku is showing signs of trouble already with an iron man recently and sticking around pretty long in this round. Me and charon will carry Seymour as far as we can, but the outlook definitely seems bleak this year.

So, for those who care, Tidus could still temporarily sneak back into the top 10 if Rydia were to get eliminated soon, but Jessie, Ardyn, and Emet Selch are all going to be stats eligible by the end of the contest and, depending on their finishes, could place above Tidus, which is why I said earlier that he never really had a chance to stay in the top 10 this year.

I don't think he's saying that ALL of X shitting the bed isn't spicy (it is, and it's making me sad), just that the writing has been on the wall for Tidus for a hot minute now so it's hard to see that as "spicy" (it isn't for US at least). I mean I can see where you guys' arguments are coming from given his history in this contest, but I think Tidus going out at this stage IN THIS CONTEST IN PARTICULAR is a mere tingle on the tongue at best: no more exciting than Kefka, Auron, Kuja, or Zidane getting eliminated at this point. Not exactly bland, but hardly spicy either. I'mma just call this a mild elim. How about that?

Nah, I don't think "we saw it coming" factors into it. If it's a character with a strong history that we care about and they go out early, that's spicy.

In every contest, you can see which powerhouses "don't have it" that year, but it doesn't make it insignificant when they go out early. Otherwise you could just "ho-hum" every bottom 50 elimination because you don't go out this early unless you just have no support.

Fair enough, but I think we're going to have to agree to disagree here because I absolutely do think that factors in. Also we must have a different definition of early, because almost making the top half in a field of a hundred to me isn't comparable to say ... finishing in 96th and being subsequently booted from the ECC. I mean yeah it's a low and upsetting finish for Tidus in particular, but it's not surprising given that A) He's been here before, and B) His only main supporter for this contest lives in the Land of the Rising Sun, and participates in 1 in every 3 rounds at best.

Believe me I'm not trying to downplay his placement here because it's a pretty finish, and I'm very disappointed in us all because we shouldn't have let it happen for at least 3 more rounds, but if I was looking at a Thai food menu Tidus dropping out any time in the last dozen rounds would warrant one chili pepper out of a possible five

Mild AF unless you're like a white dude from Bumble-fuck Kansas who's never even SEEN Thai food before and has no idea what spicy even is. You wanna know what I think the spiciest elimination so far this contest has been? None. Gun to my head, I'd pick Yuna or Galuf because they've both recently placed in the top ten, and unlike Tidus this contest, they've had a main backer that just so happened to miss that round or otherwise drop the ball (and not nearly as regularly as the sole Tidus backer misses rounds). Still one pepper though.

I think everyone's just so desperate to see a spicy elimination that they're willing to deem anything even remotely mild as "spicy" because there ain't been much yet for XXV to date. This is no Teflon Yuffie getting hard booted. This is no Kefka, Yuna, or Auron leaving the ECC. This is no Lightning getting lawyered out before reaching the top ten when half the savers were clamoring for her "deserved" belated victory. Y'all wanna see some real spice? Get Aerith outta there before the top 20. Now THAT would be one a-spicy meat-a-ball (and probably one very unlikely to happen)! Cuz this? This ain't it, chiefs!

Genny out.

Nobody is trying to claim this is a five-alarm fire. It's just an interesting elimination because it's a guy who rarely goes out this early who has won before.
