Those are reasons to dispise those people and company's specifically, but why every other rich guy? We don't know anything about them or what crimes they may or may not have committed. Hell I think the father son duo were just part of a wealthy family.

If we judged everybody based on the crimes their peers committed we'd have as much reasons to hate the poor.

That and As as evil as some company's become its a fact that if they're providing a good enough goods or service then consumers generally don't care. Be it a necessity or luxery even.

Nah, I have empathy for them, as this would be utterly fucking horrific to go through, but I don't really have much sympathy for them. They had enough money to do nigh anything they want on the planet and they chose to drive straight through the red flag manufacturing plant ignoring every single one getting into something that should have been named the SS Deathtrap and knowingly accepted those risks.

While this happened a bunch migrants died with 100s still missing. No one is talking about that so people are likely "laughing" at this because we put so much more importance to this small group of people over 100s of others.

I mean, nobody DESERVES to, but given they literally stranded themselves in a fucking submarine in the ocean with ample warning they were probably going to die, they certainly brought it on themselves.

Its not really unfortunate in that the word unfortunate implies fortune was involved. Its more a bad thing that was one hundred percent easily avoided and people dont tend to have as much sympathy for that. I think its pretty horrible they died that way, unless they imploded, in which case they died better than a lot of people do.

Either way, all death is bad and sad. But mockery is a reasonable response to the absurdity and foolishness of a the situation.

Consider what types of responses a topic might receive after news of a school shooting. It's going to be a lot of compassion and frustration at the senseless death. It's not a given that people will react callously to a tragedy.

This is just a case of people willingly entering into an extremely dangerous situation where there were repeated red flags of "hey there's a very good chance shit will go sideways and you won't come back from this." You can't really draw any conclusions about the state of society based on their reaction to this compared to the way they react to other tragedies.

The thing is, the other rich guy bailed out after his tour, lol nope.

There are more actual sad tragedies in the world, not because it was stupidly rich, too much money to spend and didn't know how to spend it, but still want to hoard more money

It seems like it isn't out of the question to go down. One article said James Cameron visited 33 times the Titanic wreckage. So I could see people thinking foolishly that they would be safe. It'd hardly be the first people to not take seriously a risk.

If people are genuinely compassionate, to all people, then you wouldn't see stuff like that happening.

Its MOSTLY a fair point, but I would point out that part of the reason people say theres no good billionaire is because billionaires shouldnt exist. By that I mean, if youre a billionaire, you have too much money, more than you can ever spend, and if you were a decent person you would be giving that money to people who need it instead of just hoarding the resources that money represents.

It is not uncommon for people to south or poke fun at people who choose to do something uncommon or rare and the result of that choice is that those people who did the thing die.
And thats what these people chose to do. Billionaires are unpopular now. So the fact billionaires were the ones who did the thing and died, well theyre easy targets for mockery since they were engaging in something most people cant relate to and are in a class that most people will other.

One May dislike this lack of horror people may feel towards the victims, but this general feeling is not unique in human history for better or for worse. Must a person express sorrow or at least hold their tongue for every human death?

Entertainers tend to top out in the 9-figure range, with only the richest dozen or so of them (Lucas, Spielberg, Oprah, Jay-Z, Rihanna, McCartney, etc) breaking into the billionaire's club, and even then just barely in most cases.

I don't really have a point with this (as I don't personally believe that having 9 zeroes in your net worth instead of 8 is the arbitrary point of no return on one's morality), just an observation.

According to concern trolls, it would be wrong to have any response other than bawling your eyes out at such a terrible tragedy. Same kind of energy as "not the right time to talk about solutions" after a mass shooting or building collapse.

Because, according to these people, literally any other response is "making fun of someone for dying." "It's not fair to the grieving families". I don't know the families of the deceased nor am I planning to crash their funerals and start laughing at them. I think I can talk about how stupid it was for Stockton Rush to build a submarine out of soda cans and hope.

It's not funny that people are dead. It's ridiculous and unbelievable that any of this happened and it was completely preventable. You could pretty much say Rush killed his companions.

No one is sending out the rescue to save millions of people from suffering and oppression. We aren't hearing about every of ordeal on the news cycle. Minorities and the poor beg for help and these concern trolls with their big fucking hearts roll their eyes at the melodrama.
