I mean the number has to be somewhere, but they also can't really afford to let him go can they? Aren't they in the same spot as the sixers where if they lose any key contributors it's hard to replace them for cap reasons?

earlier this season grant was clowned for staying (through his agent?) that he wanted $20mm annually.

if i'm the celtics i'm likely matching any offer on him at that or below, and making it well known - probably that has to decrease others' appetite to lich up there own call shave giving him a big offer

correct, we'd almost certainly be looking to find a deal if we had to lose him

I mean the Magic are in a position where they can afford to overpay someone without needing them to be a starter. I'm not sure Grant Williams is that guy but he fits a need.

I'd guess the Magic will be looking at like Williams, Reaves, Trent Jr and maybe FVV (but that requires freeing up some extra space). Need something along the lines of a glue guy or shooter that is going to be fine taking a backseat to Franz / Banchero and Fultz.

i think the CBA will have us near hard cap territory if we supermax jaylen. but next season before jaylen's due for a new contract we could still get lucky

Magic rotation is going to be:

Fultz (17m - expiring / likely extended)

Franz (5.5m - 2 years remaining then RFA)
Banchero (11.6m - 3 year remaining then RFA)
WCJ (13m - 3 years remaining)

Cole (5.5m - RFA next year)
Suggs (7.2m - 2 years remaining then RFA)

They have Gary Harris (13m - non guaranteed) who is a solid rotation guy. Jonathan Isaac (17m - 2 years remaining only 7m guaranteed) who is starter caliber if (and it's a massive if) he can actually stay healthy.

Then they have 6 / 11 / 36 and 23m in cap space to fill the rest of the rotation. They can free up an extra 23m or so if they want by cutting Harris / Isaac (or trading them)

Depends who we draft but I'd expect something like Jarace or a Thompson twin plus a shooter or Lively. Then fill the other 2 gaps with FAs or Harris/JI plus a FA.

But Magic are gonna have a ton of space to work with in the near future even accounting for likely max extensions for Franz and Banchero a couple of years down the line.

It feels kind of early for the magic to be throwing around 20M for a role player

20m in the new CBA is like 14-15m in the old CBA so it's not terrible

And we have to spend the money somehow. No benefit to leaving it open

It is also possible some team in cap trouble dumps a good guy for cheap to us just to get our of cap shit though

FVV ain't taking that backseat.

I wouldn't be a huge fan of getting FVV but some Magic fans want him.

That prototype of player is scary to pay at his age. Has the potential to decline very very fast. Plus would probably need to move one of Suggs or Cole if we signed him and I'd prefer to keep them over him

Yeah, I hate VanVleet as a player. I think it'd be a terrible mistake on Orlando's part to go after him.

Orlando should be chasing guys who they think will contribute in 3-4 years. Anything shorter than that is trying to accelerate their timeline too hard imo, if that player doesnt exist they might as well just focus on developing for another couple of years. IIRC the FA pool this season is potentially pretty weak.

Does this tell us literally anything? it says "if they reset the roster" anyone could figure out that they would trade him if they do that. The question is will they do that, which this does not answer

I don't know what it means to "reset the roster" for Washington because it's not like they're any good as it stands

It's relevant because he has a no trade clause.

Back end of his contract is atrocious though so the price is going to be way less than people think. It's going to be only a step above a salary dump. They waited too long to trade him

both of their other major players (Porzingis and Kuzma) have player options so they may be unable to keep them for whatever reason

25 games is pretty massive. He's basically being fined a third of his salary as well as not being able to qualify for any in season awards.

The list of players to be suspended for more than 25 games is very short.

If a player gets an in season suspension but is injured during the suspension, they delay the suspension until the player is deemed fit/eligible to play. Happened to Moe Wagner when he was knocked out by Hayes. He was on the injury report because of the injury sustained (presumably concussion protocol). They delayed his ban until he was off the injury report.

At no point last season was Bridges eligible to play so zero games would have transpired on a ban
