I've got a pretty good progress towards reading them all already, but still got a ways to go.

Guess I'll start with a list of what novels haven't read:

The Long Walk
Roadwork
The Running Man
The Eyes of the Dragon
Thinner
Rose Madder(I think?)
The Regulators(started and failed a few times, now waiting to reread Desperation first)
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon
The Colorado Kid
Blaze
Joyland
The Wind Through The Keyhole
Gwendy's Button Box
Elevation
Later
Gwendy's Final Task
Fairy Tale(probably next on my list)
Any of his nonfiction except On Writing

Novellas and short stories are a bit harder because I've done a lot of scattered reading over time, so there's very few I've read none from but quite a few I've only read partially. I'll just mark the short story collections as complete or incomplete(and I guess try and guess how much I've read?) and I'll do Novellas story by story

Novellas I haven't read:

Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption
The Breathing Method
Low Men in Yellow Coats
Hearts in Atlantis
Blind Willie
Why We're in Vietnam
Heavenly Shades of Night Are Falling
A Fair Extension
A Good Marriage
If It Bleeds
Rat

And the short story collections I need to finish:

Night Shift - would've gotten to this before but back when I was blitzing through King audiobooks this one was in terrible shape on audible, reading it now. I'm excited since it has a LOT of stuff that has since been adapted, but as of now I've only read Jerusalem's Lot.
Nightmares and Dreamscapes - I wanna say I've read at least 75% of this, it's one I've picked up repeatedly and I'm excited to read the rest
Everything's Eventual - was actually one of the first King books I ever bought, and I've read everything but The Little Sisters of Eluria which I skipped because I hadn't read Dark Tower yet, due for a reread.
Just After Sunset - I've read, I think, through The Things They Left Behind, so a little less than half. Of course I stopped just before what's supposed to be one of his best stories of the decade, N.
Bazaar of Bad Dreams - I've gotten maybe a third of a way through it, not my favorite honestly. I've also read Mile 81, Ur, and Blockade Billy just because I have them seperate.

Think that's enough for the OP, currently reading Night Shift

So Jerusalem's Lot was an 8/10, which is way higher than I expected to give it. I knew it was something of a prequel to Salem's Lot giving the history of the town, but tbqh I wasn't a great fan of Salem's Lot - it grew on me my second time through and I can't deny there are some fantastic scenes and characters, but vampires have never really been my bag so it's never been near my top.

But I get into it, and quickly peg it for the more Lovecraftian story it is, using a much different writing style than King's norm, and with some excellent and eerie revalations, and a truly explosive finish. I've always enjoyed King's Lovecraft homages more than Lovecraft himself, and this was no exception.

It has definitely been painful, he has some truly bad books, but I'm pretty sure I'm past the worst of them and I've still got a few gems, especially The Green Mile which missed my list, gotta update that

So the original plan was also to try and watch every movie based on a Stephen King adaptation but......that's a LOT of movies and more happening regularly. Like there's, what, 4 movies coming out this year alone? And some of them are baaaaad.

Probably only do ones King had a direct hand in.

The Long Walk is one of my favorite stories of his (I read/own it as part of The Bachmann Books, myself), so I hope you enjoy it. The Green Mile is another one I liked a lot, but honestly, I like almost everything of his I've read; the only one that I remember disliking was It, as the ending was just... strange, even for King.

IT is probably my favorite of his, I adore the ending(even THAT scene in a way) and I wish Chapter 2 had stayed faithful to the book(other than THAT scene) rather than trashing on King's endings then delivering one that was so much worse :(

Tag. I was reallyyyy into Stephen King in the late 00s/early 10s, went through The Dark Tower and most of his collection almost exclusively on audiobook. Only physical books I own are The Stand and Night Shift which I definitely recommend, bought it as I find it the strongest of his short story collections. Recently dusted it off when I went to jury duty and it still holds up.

Funny enough, the list of what you haven't read also lines up pretty well with mine, I definitely did the Bachman Books (including Rage which I really liked but yeah, can it even be found nowadays). I know I did Regulators & Desperation but I can't remember them at all. For novellas, I listed to audiobook of Full Dark, No Stars which covers a couple of ones there.

Also you're right about Just After Sunset, "N" was really a standout for me. I remember a flash animation companion being created for it too, assuming it still exists somewhere on the internet, recommend looking that up after reading it.

Ive read nearly everything from King except Cycles of the Werewolf, Danse Macabre, and his most recent 1-3 books. Also read most of Joe Hills stuff too.

Of the ones you havent read, I remember really enjoying Joyland and The Wind Through the Keyhole.

But yeah, King can be pretty hit or miss overall. I usually enjoy his writing style and characterization and setups. But it doesnt always all come together.

11/22/63 might be my favorite of his overall.

I need to put this next in my queue because I consistently hear that it's one of his best.

I'd say my top 5 are The Stand, Pet Sematary, Salems Lot, The Dark Half, and the Bachman Books lumped into one.

Reading Cell right now and it's not bad despite the absurd premise. I still haven't gotten burned out on zombie apocalypse stuff so enjoying it so far.

Also, I could not get through the Dark Tower series. Did the first 3 and didn't have any interest in finishing it

Book 4, Wizard and Glass is probably the best of that series! Its mostly a story of Rolands past.

Ive only read through 5-7 once, when they came out. Theyre not super highly regarded overall, though it does end well. King kind of rushed them out because he was afraid he might die after his accident.

Finally got back to reading and got through Graveyard Shift. I knew about this one so it does lose a bit if bite, but it does a good job building up this disgusting mine and it's inhabitants, with a great ending.

Particular love for Hall getting a last little satisfying shot and launching his shitty boss to his death before biting it himself.

Also I cannot comprehend how audible doesn't have a full audiobook for Night Shift. They have roughly 3/4 of the stories available, you have to buy them in three separate bundles, and the quality is by far the worst I've ever heard on Audible, like they were done by an amateur for a book on tape back in the day and never updated

I Am The Doorway is a solid 8/10 that I'm surprised I've never heard mentioned.

I'm not normally a big fan of Sci Fi from King- Firestarter and Tommyknockers were both a miss from me - but like with The Jaunt, this mixes it with some real lovecraftian influence to create something uniquely terrifying.

I remember being a big fan of The Mangler, I know it's ridiculous in retrospect (especially when you visualize the ending) but still!

Battleground also may be my fav, and was also a great episode of Nightmares and Dreamscapes w/ William Hurt. Also love Quitters Inc. I think all of those are in Night Shift, truly the best collection!

Edit: ok apparently The Jaunt was in Skeleton Crew, I really could've swore it was Night Shift too...

Had to look it uo since I haven't seen it forever, and...it's called Battleground lol. Based on an apparently real story where an English army received a German note calling for them to surrender. A soldier told this to the commander who was just waking up, and the commander sleepily replied "nuts" and that was the response they went with

Ok that was an easy 10/10 holy shit. I knew the basic premise, but this is such a gem. It's the story of a teacher who begins being haunted by his past as the kids who kicked his older brother when he was a kid.

To start, the anxiety just oozes through the pages. The cautious jagged hope of a man struggling to recover, the brooding atmosphere of the school, the repeat nightmare of his brother's murder.

And then the ending comes out of nowhere and takes an already great story up to the next level, I was not expecting it but I'm incredibly glad I read it.
