I'd argue that you shouldn't consider anything but II and III for bottom of the barrel.

You don't even know a top 3 final fantasy character unless you have played ffxiv

Eiko is the best playable FF9 character

OG FF7 has some of the worst character models in a major game I've ever played, even for its time, and it turned me off every time I tried to play it. Fancy FMVs don't make up for popeye arms.

Final Fantasy should still go back to turn based battles.

Frontier Village Dali is one of the best VGM of all time.

Blitzball is incomprehensible to play.

Kimahri is the best FF character

The PS1 games are extremely overrated. The SNES trio are better as a group and X, XII, XIII, and XV are all better than any of the PS1 games
Snow is a top 2 character

Rikku is one of the worst playable characters in the series FF7 onwards and is the most overrated Final Fantasy character on this board.

FF9 is the worst of the PS1 games, it's still okay but extremely vanilla compared to 7/8 which are both two of the most memorable RPGs I've played and the pacing is kinda really bad

FF13 is good, actually. The combat is a lot of fun and it's refreshing to play a game that hyperlinear.

Type-0 has one of the worst stories. I don't mean in Final Fantasy, I just mean like, ever, in all of published fiction. Legit think the median semi-popular fanfic has a better story than it.

FF8 is extremely flawed but I kinda like that it's that way because I've never played anything else like it and probably never will. I had more fun with it than a good portion of the series.

FF4 is an all-timer, and only just behind 6 as the best game in the series of the 90s.

The SNES games are pretty cleanly a lot better than the PS1 games, but the PS1 trilogy is more memorable and sticks out in my head more. I played 6-9 during the pandemic for the first time so this isn't based out of nostalgia.

FFTA1 and FFTA2 I probably like more than any of the mainline games. The last two Theatrhythm games are also better than the majority of the franchise.

FF7 Remake's combat is good but it's not good enough to overlook the game's other issues, of which there are many. The game's still kinda.....fine, but it's not what I'd want out of an ideal FF7 remake.

Xenoblade has become the new Final Fantasy.

Games with job systems are the best and I regret that I never played XI (but it's too late to start now.) This includes 3, 5, Tactics, X-2, and XIV (and really, I ought to give Bravely Default a spin at some point.)

6 is a bottom 3 game from the mainline series for me, although villainwise it's a top 5'er.

7 is overrated, but that doesn't mean it's bad.

There's nothing wrong with FFV's story.

Dissidia's way of how they utilize different playstyles, flavored by references from their original game makes it my favorite crossover fighter/action game by a longshot.

The makeovers of all the older FF characters in Dissidia is great and helps personalize each of the somewhat similar heroes and villains.

Haven't played it yet, unfortunately, but I've heard good things (where 13-2 > LR > 13, and I didn't HATE 13's gameplay, just most of its characters.)

If we're talking broad arcs of the game, then this is the same for me too, personally. There' stuff that I love about the first act, but the game immediately became more compelling once I stepped into the overworld and played through the Nibelheim flashback, and the game rarely slowed down after that

i used to like job systems as a kid but revisiting them both 5 and X-2 are super shallow in practice

Rinoa is a great character

They're mostly not that good and FF7R is legitimately the best one (that I've played)

XIII has an incredible cast, story, gameplay, and is easily a top tier game.
Baltheir and Fran are the only good things from XII.
IX's gameplay is too slow and basic to ever want to replay.
II isn't nearly as bad as people cry about, it's fantastic.
VIII is dumpster trash.

XIII trilogy is a hot dumpster fire with the worst main character in the series

Tactics is better than every mainline entry of the franchise.

The series typically has dull villains. I do not find Sephiroth to be a remotely interesting character.
