I wish there were more Mystic Quest tracks. They got the best ones but the Zu's Tower and Volcano and Tristram's theme would be hype among others.

I'm sorta glad there was only 5 so I could actually do all the quests in it. Didn't have like... beat the boss in 15 seconds when bosses have 2x HP.

Which every single other game seems to have lol

I love FF12's soundtrack but it's definitely less suited to a rhythm game environment.

Getting 9999 exp every time I play airbuster is pretty neat.

Getting really close to 9.7M+ on the Ultimate of it. I'll have it soon!

Terra and Vivi both learn Doublecast, so they're helpful for the quests where you need to do a lot of damage.

I thought I'd be the first one to mention that XII's music kinda sucked. Glad I wasn't.

i hate when a hold note comes in at a time it forces me to control the movement with the right stick instead of the left

i can't right stick at all

The double diagonal arrows are what I struggle with the most when they show up during a fast segment. I feel like I get it wrong half the time.

Some characters Ive seen thrown around are Cloud 1, Gilgamesh, Terra, Yshtola 2 and Lena (for healing), Locke and Fran (for treasure finding)

Ive seen folks say that Bartz is pretty busted.

Here are some of the recommended ones I've seen for getting specific quests finished, but you kinda want to have different teams for all phys, all magic, all summon and all treasure hunting for whatever you're trying to do

Terra - Best boss killer
- Dualcast
- Riot Blade
- Ultima

Shantotto - highest damage single skill
- Bluff
- Play Rough
- Bluff

Yuna - Start with Summon
- Grand Summon
- Mana Cede
- Swiftness

Bartz - Best trigger attacker especially for longer songs
- Job Mastered!
- Mimic

Yuffie - best summonstone farming
- Rare Summoner
- Discerning Eye
- All Creation

Cloud 1 - 2nd Best boss killer + Best wind element
- Omnislash
- Aero Blade family

Squall - Best ice element
- Lion Heart
- Blizzard Blade family

Lilisette - can turn enemy resistance into weaknesses
- Vivifying Waltz

Cid Raines - less efficient than Lilisette, but also reduces all attributes
- Seraphim Ray

Edge - Damage avoider
- Mirage
- Blink
- Smoke

but i only really like yuffie & lilisette out of those

And I only like _ out of those...

I mean, it's cool they have have the full Advent version. It'd make a nice break during a stream, but this and the Ardyn final boss theme are long as all hell. The Ardyn theme doesn't even have the excuse of being interesting.

Got the Endless mode unlocked, it's actually pretty mean. You can't just clear the songs, you also need to complete whatever quest it gives you for the song, and these get difficult very quickly. You have three Lives and lose one each time you fail to complete a quest. You HAVE to have a specific team built up for the challenges it starts giving you by round 7 or 8, for example "activate 40 abilities in this song" or "deal 2500 summon damage to one enemy"

Is the premium digital version with all the DLC a limited time thing? I'm probably going to wait to pick it up once all the DLC is out, as I don't tend to return to games after finishing them.

This game is great but it makes me sad. Rhythm games used to be a genre I excelled in and could trounce the highest difficulties on, but my ability to read the screen and react has gotten so fucking bad as I get older. Can't play most of these past Expert, and it's just a bit of a blow.

Man it's fucking weird that Dancing Mad, the longest song in the series, has one of the shortest tracks in this game

I think the original game I beat every song on ultimate but this one I think 9 is my limit anything with a 10 and I haven't been able to do

Are there any particularly hard requirements for the platinum, or is it all stuff you can do with enough time?

you have to complete every series quest, a handful of which require you to finish the song on Ultimate. You have to clear a song with all Criticals. You also have to complete a Perfect Chain on all 5 "Top Hit" songs for a single day, which I believe also means you only get one chance at each because they lose Top Hit status after the first time you play them that day

Thanks for the info! Gonna have to start trying those top hits every day I guess... Maybe I should do them all on basic for closer to guaranteed success?

Thankfully the quests requiring Ultimate completion that I've run into so far have mostly been fairly easy on Ultimate, and I assume you can do extremely bad if you had a party of say, all max stat healers with 9999 HP each. Not having to do any supremes makes it easier.

Getting all criticals on a song though... that feels like it would take pretty good luck when you're as okay as me at this. Not even sure if it'd be easier on basic than extreme.

getting All Critical was my 6th trophy and I've gotten several more since then. First one was on the FFV EMS Home, sweet Home on Basic, and I eventually got All Critical on Expert as well

If the top hit trophy is anything like its counterpart in Melody of Memory you can keep retrying the song as long as you don't actually finish it (means you pause and retry before the song finishes if you screw up)

Do EMS songs not pop up in the quest mode? I've never run into one. Not sure how to do them...

They're just in the Music Stages mode I believe.

Got my first All Critical on an expert song, Hellfire in FF XV. One of my favourites from that game, as well as Up for the Challenge.

Basic and Expert all SSSed in FFs 2, 5, 7, 13, 14, and 15. Which I believe is all the 1* difficulty quest series. Not really sure why I'm doing them in that order lol, but it feels right.

Top hits aren't appearing for me for some reason. Do you have to restart the game for them to show up?

If you haven't unlocked the song through Game Stages yet, it won't show up.

Man that 4 button at the same time thing was brutal, and that was on basic lol.

Got the credits screen though, so officially "beat" the game. Going to continue going through all the series on basic and expert, then start trying ultimates.

Do character teams matter for EMS? There are no enemies but you still get chests and XP.

Also for endless mode, I assume the songs are randomized each run?

How do you kill things

Use abilities that do more damage, use higher Strength/Magic characters, hit more triggers.

Speaking of, do Magic characters still do Trigger damage based on Strength?

Getting really irritated at quests that require you to kill the boss.

Finally get through 3 rounds of baddies, pull out the boss, still enough time to do some damage and fucking stoned....

Yeah I think the status effects are the worst thing added to this game, I guess they wanted to disincentivize stacking a party of damage dealers but you still have to guess correctly on which status healing spell to equip since only a small handful have one that heals all of them

I also miss the way damage could overflow so if you did an attack with massive damage to an enemy the next two or three that you come across would instantly die

Sarah has a spell that cures every status. Otherwise, Stone and Mini are the main threatening statuses. I think there's a Healer that can take care of both, but I'm not sure who it is.

nah, just knew I'd been on it long enough and it had to be about to die based on how many times I've played the song.

Yes the Endless Mode is random, why would it even exist otherwise

I miss when field songs were just traveling and didn't have battles, and they tracked your total distance

But yeah, status ailments suck
