I do not understand Celine's stats.

Why is she just good at everything? Why does she have high defense, attack, magic, and speed?

Why is her only weakness resistance, of all things? This has actually almost fucked me because I ASSUMED she would have good res.

She must be hiding armor plating under than giant dress.

For me Celine is pretty sketchy in terms of stats at this point, she was a star early on with Celica powers but at some point her level ups became awful. She's one of my highest level people and yet she's not fast enough to double anything but generals, has unimpressive magic (Chloe has almost caught up to her in magic by now), has no defense and her HP sucks too much for her decent resistance to matter. She's a staffbot that can chip stuff now, nothing more.

The miracle of FE then! Gotta play it by ear, see how the stats fail. For me, Alfred, Jade, Chloe, Lapis and Folgatto all shit the bed and had to bench. Meanwhile Etie has nearly caught up to Panette in STR, and that's NOT a slight in Panette's Str growth. I gave Etie Sigurd now and it's incredible.

My initial final impressions, if that makes any sense, are that my concerns pre-release that Engage would be underwhelming were unwarranted because this playthrough was a blast. I'll have to see how Maddening feels but I suspect this ends up in the New Mystery/Conquest category as far as gameplay goes, no maps really stood out as bad and a lot were great. Chapter 17 is definitely going to go down as a great Fire Emblem map, and in general some of the gimmicks the maps throw out are great, especially with how some bosses abuse Emblem shenanigans against you during the mid to late game. It does get a bit tiring fighting the same bosses so much though. As far as the story goes, it's pretty generic but not really bad and manages to have some fairly solid scenes here and there, helped by the good voice acting for Alear who is way more likable than I was expecting. I'll need some time to look back on it but I could actually see this game breaking into my top three for the series, which I never dreamed I'd even be considering.

My second playthrough Alear has gained strength every single levelups and it's fucking with me.

By level 10 in my first playthrough she'd gained 2 points.

Is there anywhere online I can see what every character looks like in every class? Would rather not do all the promotes manually...

So Target threw my SE into the ocean and told me to fuck off but after a couple days of trying I've managed to get one from Amazon. Unfortunately even at retail price it's still $10 more than I was paying at Target and it'll probably be damaged when it shows up based on what other people who ordered from Amazon have said.

This makes me 3 for 3 on snagging SEs from Amazon after release since I did it with Fates and Echoes too

I will say that my Amazon order of the SE came in immaculately, so there's hope.

Artbook is gorgeous too. It's purely an art book, no writeups or anything, but it's super extensive. Even has full page detailed breakdowns of all the unique character mounts.

I believe the outfits are the same from character to character so whatever Alear looks like in one outfit will be the same for people of the game gender.

Its dawned on me that almost every single thing between fights is pointless. The Somniel is just not very interesting.

I feel like Bunet is gonna end up the least used unit once the stats come out.

There's nothing wrong with the guy, but that's my gut.

Also I somehow managed to get enough Olwen rings to fuse up to Platinum without any save stage shenanigans after about 11 pulls on Leif.

Now I just need like....12k bond points and change....

Fun fact: none of the cooking, training, and Tonic stat bonuses stack. So training is pretty much pointless!

I mean I would have thought that even if they DID stack, the training sucks! I do them just to get the SSS ranks on file, not because I care lol.

Though if you train for a different stat than you got with cooking, that's still viable.

That's just Maddening tech, though, even on Hard mode it really doesn't matter unless your Alear is just totally fucked.

Which can happen of course! I'm watching Mekkah play and his Alear promoted at 12/2 has 11 Strength, and my unpromoted level 15 Alear has 15 Strength. In the first playthrough, though, I had 14 Strength at level 17 before promoting....AFTER an Energy Drop, so really I'd only gotten to 12.

I don't know if it's a hidden passive effect for him or what, but I feel like it's no coincidence Bunet has been the only unit to cook S+ rank meals for me so far.

Dawn Engrave on a +5 Minibow for Alcryst, next level dodge tank.

Reliable sub 20% hit rate from enemies with 1 range counter.

And since the game considers the Minibow to be trash, it's dirt cheap.

And now I see they cut out the ending where you can make lesbian babies too? Sigh, shame 8-4 didn't work on this.

I refuse to not use Panette on this playthrough even though I used her last time. I at least need to reclass her, though I hate to lose that outfit.

Wyvern Rider? I have no other fliers except Ivy this run and I don't think Goldmary is a good fit for one.

Is it just me or is this music kinda unremarkable? Not saying it's bad, it's perfectly fine. Just no standout tracks.

Music is some of the best we've gotten! Matter of opinion of course.

I'm currently at Chapter 17, 21 hours and I think I'm realizing I just don't like Fire Emblem.

I didn't like Three Houses very much and this game isn't doing it for me either.

Every battle boils down to sitting just outside aggro range, drawing enemies in, and then blasting them down.

I probably should have played on Hard Casual instead of Normal Classic since I time crystal anytime anyone dies anyway but that feels like it would have been way too easy.

I thought Tear Streaked (Ice), the chapter 10 music, was pretty great. But one of the cool things about Engage's music is how the tracks are dynamic and change throughout the battle, which I guess doesn't come across as well when listening to them on their own.

Chapter 10 track is excellent.

The track flow throughout the game between Calm and Fiery (Rain/Thunder in 3H, though I guess in this one they have different terms for the different regions? ) is fantastic, and can't really be recreated in out of game listening no matter how good the mix is.

I don't think any battle track here surpasses Fodlan Winds, but I think the soundtrack on average is better.

Got around to starting this yesterday, through Chapter 4. Story and characters are definitely not great so far. I'm only playing on Normal/Casual, but I'm still annoyed at my bad level ups so far. The only one who's really gotten any Str/Mag boosts is the girl twin getting two Str boosts by level 4, lol. Alear's gotten 1 Str boost in four levels, and I don't think anyone else has gotten any yet (granted there haven't exactly been many level ups in general).

Funniest moment was doing Alear/Marth's first bond conversation and being bewildered at how pointless it was.

Wandering the battlefield after battle is kinda neat, but most of the after-battle dialogue is barely a step up from recent Pokemon NPC dialogue. Just short little blurbs of no real interest. =/

Hoping it'll improve, because this isn't the greatest first impression. Maybe I shouldn't have played this so close after doing two runs of Triangle Strategy.

I have not been able to get to mission 2 of Triangle Strategy yet because I just can't force myself through the boring characters and cutscenes lol, so I think our situations are reversed.

I do think the opening chapters of Engage are by far it's weakest story wise. Says something that I'm still here 13 chapters into a second playthrough right now purely to try out new units, though.

Realized Panette's natural weapon is actually DAGGERS, not axes, and given the backstory...decided to get nutty.
