Got Raiden, although I lost the first 50/50 to Diluc (C3 now!). Had been farming her mats the weeks prior so she's already a beast in my party.

Got to 6000 coins on windtracer, don't think I played the prior versions so it was fun for me. Are the coins going to be used for anything after the event is over?

It's probably better to save the bilets unless you are sitting on a ton of them. I don't think the passive ability makes a ton of difference on characters that want EM right now. Iron Sting is probably technically better on Kazuha who can do some AOE damage but Kuki doesn't really care (the passive doesn't affect hyperbloom unfortunately).

Oh my god

Just went ahead and used a guide to find all the Aranara. There was no effin way I could do it without one. But after running through a guide one by one, I was still missing some!!! I was furious. But I figured it out! After hours on this mission, those damn Mischievous Aranara or whatever, after using Electro on those spy glass things on top of watch towers. I just had to actually talk to the on top of the towers for them to count. Thankfully! That was it and I didnt have to run through this damn guide going to every single one of the 76 damn little demon shits locations. It is done and I never want to do that shit ever again, please.

Need recommendations on who to level because I've been foolishly letting my resin go to waste in favor of exploring / story. Right now I just kinda bumble through with the same 4-5 people but probably should actually level some more people / make them usable so I can stop ignoring spiral abyss.

I would first suggest you develop a National-type team. I think your best option there would be to use Tartaglia, Bennett, Xiangling, and Sucrose. You're already part of the way on those and have invested in Tartaglia so a team where he shines would be best.

Afterward when you've progressed more and need a second team, you could work towards a Yae Aggravate team: You will want Yae, Fischl, a Dendro character (Collei or the Dendro Traveler) and an Anemo character/healer (Jean or Sayu).

I don't know what kind of teams Ganyu is good in so I didn't recommend any of those. My impression is a lot of them also want characters you don't have (Kazuha, Zhongli).

Seconding Tartaglia International.

I'm not a Ganyu expert but you probably want a freeze team since you have Mona. I guess Ganyu/Mona/Jean and either Rosaria or Layla is probably fine. But ideally people typically run Diona and Venti/Kazuha with her.

Always spend your resin first. Just run the Emblem domain in Inazuma if you don't have a goal. (Or any other artifact domain if you haven't gotten there.)

The team Sceptile recommended seems like an easy pick, given who you've got leveled currently. I'll offer an alternate idea in a second. At your current point, I wouldn't worry too much about *clearing* Abyss. If you can knock off floors 9 and 10, great, but up through floor 8 shouldn't be a big deal if you split up your "good" people. Therefore, having a second team isn't that vital. What I would worry about is considering elemental coverage. If you wander into Sumeru just far enough to find a statue and set your traveler to Dendro, you'll have every element covered besides anemo and geo. There are enemies in Liyue where geo (or a claymore) matters, but I think dendro MC with Miko could form the backbone of a team. Or just go all-in on Ganyu.

Anyway, an alternate idea:
Team 1: Childe, Qiqi (or Bennett), Fischl, Miko (classic "fireworks" team, aka taser variant)
Team 2: Ganyu, Bennett, Noelle, Xiangling (melt Ganyu; Noelle isn't the best shielder but it works. Bennett's also here because Xiangling needs a teammate to help her energy)

Normally I'd push Xingqiu as a character to develop, but with Childe as your main on-fielder, his hydro application isn't as big a deal, and he doesn't really work with Ganyu. You'll probably also want to eventually level Sucrose, too.

I dunno if Im better off having Nahida or Nilou as the main attacker in their team assuming I use both together. I feel like youd have to for even running Nilou while Nahida has electro options to run with.

I don't have Nilou, but unless you also build her for EM, Nahida seems like the obvious answer.

Yeah doesn't Nilou like to build HP? I think it depends on your specific team.

IIRC it's easier to get blooms going hydro on-field, Dendro on off-field and enemy, and I've heard of people using EM Kokomi for the on fielder in Nilou teams for example.

Doesnt seem like I have the artifacts for Nilou yet anyways :(

Can flip Bennett and Qiqi also, both variations will work. Just gotta figure out the best rotations.

You can also do Taser with Miko, Fischl, Xingqiu, and Jean/Bennett, but I think a Dendro team will be her best option. Aggrevate with Jean was mentioned but another possibility is Quickbloom which adds a little hydro for blooms. Mona or Barbara if you want a healer can slot in there (though the ideal 4th is Kokomi).

Dendro teams tend to have less character overlap so the best option is to have that be one team so Childe or Ganyu can have their pick from the rest of your roster. Lot of options.

You know what would be cool? Marking the locations of ascension items for you like they can do with certain monsters. Its a pain having to look up where to find all this crap on your own. I need a bunch of these various lotus and shit and its just annoying having to go to a guide for them and try to gather them all up. Would be way more convenient if it could just do it for you :(

Yaoyao can be selected for free during 3.4 like Yunjin was available for free the same way. Nice! Lisa is getting a free skin I believe and Ayaka is getting a paid skin thats not fancy like Dilucs was.

I should probably take the free Yaoyao but I've decided I am hungry for Beidou cons so probably just going to grab a copy. Want that shield for Cyno and the C2 aoe boost.

If Baizhu is a healer I will likely have no need for Yaoyao anyways.

Beidou gets featured somewhat often and I think shes part of the shop sometimes too? Yaoyao is likely to appear less for a time at least so Ill be grabbing her since Alhaitham isnt tempting and neither is Xiao who is unfortunately rerunning first. If it was Al/Yelan part Id have summoned some for Yaoyao Cs too, but oh well

She's pretty uncommon actually, last year she was on two banners, neither of which had 5*s I wanted at the time. And she was just on Nilou/Albedo's. Already had to buy my first copy and like I said I want at least C2.

I still only have C2 for Beidou or something like that. I have like C5 on average for all the other Liyue 4-stars.

edit: Okay, C3, but that's still less than any of the other OG characters besides Ningguang at C2. I have a higher constellation of Qiqi than I do of Beidou.

I have a couple at really low Cs or none at all. Ningguang has just never been on a h banners Ive pulled on so Im pretty sure shes C0.

Seems like the card game will be updated every version? Pretty cool since Ive been enjoying it though some of them use really tough decks when you get up there in rank. I dunno if Id need meta decks to beat them or not yet.

i have C1 Beidou apparently, but I rarely use her. Apparently I have C6 Ningguang and C5 Yanfei somehow though, despite not using either of them either

Just been amassing materials for the characters you guys advised whilst trying to bumrush the Raiden Shogun pity. On one hand I still need 24 to hit soft pity (in 9 days) but on the other hand I've done 51 summons since Dec 31st when I got Jean on the 50/50 so it may be doable. I think the quests / exploration primos are definitely there to hit it but burnout is possible with how much I've had to play to grind these summons.

Also with the people everyone suggested, are all the newer 4* characters just a lot worse than their older counterparts? Like say is Yanfei interchangeable with Xiangling or is Xiang just a lot better / do something specific? Or were people trying to stick to people I already had levelled somewhat.

Double also, I have so many frustrations about some of these exploration / quest / area gimmicks in these newer zones.

Oh and it's probably because I don't know the attack patterns yet but that Raiden Shogun weekly fight is complete ass. I'm sure it's a lot easier once you know all the mechanics but I tried it at 90 (which I have no problem with elsewhere) and just went nope after one try. Lowered it to 80 (but forgot to take an Electro) and it still felt awful to do so just quit out of it

The most busted 4 stars are indeed launch characters; Xiangling's burst is kind of special in a way that they don't replicate with newer characters, so it's hard for another pyro character to replace her. Yanfei has her own uses, though, she's not a bad character. However, she's purely a pyro DPS who uses charge attacks, and that's a lot more replaceable. Similarly, there's no 4 star hydro character comparable to Xingqiu (though Yelan is at 5 stars), and again for Fischl you end up looking at 5 stars as comparisons. Bennett isn't replaceable even looking at 5 stars. These being some of the strongest 4 stars.

I do think Raiden Shogun is the hardest weekly boss, she hits hard and teleports a lot so the fight can feel like RNG with how mobile she's feeling. Note though that you don't need an electro; a catalyst character mixing normal and charge attacks can destroy the flower quickly enough to activate the shield.

Just to piggyback on what sceptile said...

The quirk of this being a gacha is that they can't nerf characters. There's legal ramifications for it. So in the very early days of Genshin, when nobody knew anything about the mechanics and what their implications would be for an eventual meta -- including the developers -- some mechanics were included in some of the OG 4-stars that were kinda broken. Mihoyo has been very careful not to replicate any of that ever since. I would go so far as to say they haven't released a good 4-star character since Rosaria, who was the third post-release. Kuki found new life when dendro released, but beyond that, none of them see play outside of specific limited uses (like Gorou.)

And yeah, Raiden kinda sucks when you're used to fighting Dvalin, Childe, and Azhdaha. But I used to get beat up something fierce by Andrius back when the game was new, and thought he was an unfair boss. Just bring a healer, chip a little at her during phase 1 -- especially if you can stagger her -- and then get ready to go nuts as soon as phase 2 ends. If you aren't killing her before she goes into phase 2 a second time, then yeah, that's pretty awful, and that's initially what I was dealing with until I got used to the fight. As it is, I'm still very uncomfortable with the new boss, which feels like a lot of running around doing nothing until you unleash.

I'm up to 57 on the pity counter now so unless it goes full 90 I should be ok I think. On the normal summon banner I am also at at least 57. Not had a rainbow on it since returning and I've made 57 pulls with my history blank prior to that

Oh good, Signora fight is a joke.

The thing with a lot of recent 4-stars is that many of them tend to be supports for specific 5* units. Sara for Raiden, Faruzan for Wanderer (and Xiao), Gorou for Itto. In addition they tend to require high constellations for power level, quality of life, or both, and aren't as useable straight out the gate like the more generalist launch characters are.

Looking at your characters, Layla is a pretty good Cryo shielder, I don't think she has heals but she's allegedly on par with Diona who you don't have. Ganyu might like her. Heizou can also be built as a decent Anemo main DPS that works with Faruzan. Thoma is used in Burgeon teams (dendro + hydro to bloom + pyro to burgeon). And if you really want to use Yanfei because you like her more than Xiangling, you have the team for her (Yanfei/Xingqiu/Bennett and a flex like Fischl/Sucrose/Beidou) but it's not as universally strong as the Xiangling + Bennett team.

So yeah they're not bad but you can see how they're significantly less flexible, and people value that when they're limited by resin.

I like Yanfei a lot more than Xiangling. You just can't use Yanfei as an off-field support. Don't bring up Tankfei. I actually played Yanfei briefly earlier today because I needed a torch lighter and just kept her out. She's IMO the most fluid catalyst user and has a smooth playstyle...albeit she runs out of stamina quickly.

But she's also pre-Inazuma. All the Inazuma and Sumeru characters have been either very specific use cases or they've been simply not that good.

Diona - Is good
Xinyan - splitscalinglol
Rosaria - Is good
Yanfei - Is decent, but then everything after sucks...
Sayu - nobody uses Sayu (except as movement tech)
Sara - very seldom used, even in electro teams. Absolute garbage without C2.
Thoma - is seeing some use in Burgeon, ironically, on account of how poor his pyro application is
Gorou - is strictly for geo teams, which are not popular
Yun Jin - almost exclusively used with Yoimiya
Kuki - was considered garbage until dendro; now she's the most used on this list
Heizou - the first 4-star DPS since Yanfei. Possibly a fun character, but not a superior choice on any team.
Collei - is literally dendro Amber. In terms of playability, she might be worse.
Dori - Who?
Candace - Won't have a place unless hydro infusion is somehow ever relevant, and hers is pretty short.
Layla - I don't see what she brings that justifies her over Diona (defense) or Kaeya/Rosaria (cryo application).
Faruzan - literally requires C6 to not be terrible, and is only used for anemo damage dealers, which are about as popular as geo teams.

We have Yaoyao next, and I actually have a little optimism simply because she's a dendro healer and we really need one of those. She'll at least find a home on aggravate teams, but depending on her application, she could also help bloom teams that forego Nahida.

Now, with that screed out of the way, I can think of some silly things I'd like to do if I ever level some of these, like make a triple counterattack team with Beidou, Yun Jin and Candace...not that it's even remotely practical. But I bet it'd be hilarious.

The numbers I saw placed Layla as the second best shielder after Zhongli, so she has a little more value than that I think.

Collei seems pretty good to me. The best part of Genshin is every character can work. Somebody solos Abyss with Amber and shes bad to everyone lol

I think there's a distinction between "not good" and "not optimal." Most characters have uses within a niche and can be made abyss viable with proper teambuilding. VERY few 4*s are optimal.

Also even just going by meta popularity you are really underselling Kuki who is not only the most popular on that list but the 4th most used 4 star in the entire game now, beating every launch character but the National 3. She was likely designed specifically for Dendro so it's not really an issue that it took time for people to catch on.

at this point the thing I'm looking forward to most about fontaine is the natlan leaks
