When?

I pay my rent using a cheque since there's no extra fee that way, but I don't write them for anything else since I can pay more securely with my credit card.

What about you?

It's been so long, nobody in America remembers it being spelled "cheque," either.

"Cheque" is the British spelling. "Check" is the American spelling.

Anyway, I wrote a couple yesterday. I know how to pay by card but still send in checks sometimes anyway. At least one bill (I think it's the water bill) can only be paid by check, from what I can tell.

also i am learning for the first time that americans don't spell it cheque. as well as that apparently you have a reason to write a cheque in the 21st century. For rent? you don't have like, online payment systems?

I much prefer "cheque" to distinguish it from financial checks for budgeting. And because it's more fun to spell it with a Q. It's one of the inferior things about American English and I'm doing what I can to push the envelope.

The online payment system has an extra fee that amounts to more than the cash back I would get on a credit card. I also get nothing back for a direct transfer, which also costs extra because they have to pay to use the system. I thus pay with a cheque since that costs nothing, especially since my parents bought me a large amount of them 15 years ago that I'm still going through since I have the same account.

Your mind is not very creative! I pay my rent online when renting from a larger corporation

When renting from a family or first time landlord, they prefer checks. it's easier for them and chargebacks aren't physically possible

I have rented from several independent landlords and all of them took a standing order. I can't wrap my head around using pen and paper in the 21st century

like as a landlord i would prefer a standing order because I know it's going to go out of your account on the same day every month rather than needing to wait for you to get me a piece of paper like it's the 1470s
