What game that comes out nowadays doesn't have RPG elements? Bringing in new ideas to keep things interesting is necessary, but that doesn't mean having to go through full genre changes. Squenix was genuinely surprised that Bravely Default was as popular as it was because they'd spent so many years telling themselves that nobody wanted plain old turn-based RPG's anymore, but the reality is that many of the FF series fans would have been quite happy to stick to something more traditional than the radically different direction it's gone. Some degree of evolution is needed to keep things from becoming stale, but change for change's sake runs the risk of leaving behind perfectly good ideas in an obsessive chase for progress.
