in 2016, he was down 2-1 without home court and came back to beat the spurs who had won 67 teams and statistically were actually the best regular season spurs ever. absolutely torched prime defensive kawhi leonard that series. he managed to get up 3-1 against the warriors as well.

so while he's never won a championship and he's had some disappointing losses (including personally choking in 2016)

I'm still so upset they blew that. I predicted the Thunder to go to the finals before the playoffs started and all my friends clowned me for it, so I was really rubbing it in when they went up 3-1 just to eat a whole lot of crow a few days later

yeah. it wasn't just KD either. OKC overall just seemed bigger, stronger, more athletic at every part of the game that mattered.

frustrating that the spurs couldn't manage to get a fair shot at GSW in 2015 or 2016 (and admittedly they blew their leads vs the clippers and OKC). i don't think they were beating GSW anyway in 2017, but surely we deserved better than that.

people always say the Spurs wouldn't have won in 2017 anyway but they were up by a lot in Game 1 before Kawhi went down, and they put up good games against them in the regular season as well

yeah I get that was just Game 1 but I also don't think it's fair to dismiss their chances entirely

the fact that the Spurs had to be a 6 seed against the Clippers in 2015 is still stupid (and it's why the NBA largely made divisions irrelevant afterwards) but we also lost the last game of the season against a bad Pelicans team that made us the 6 seed instead of the 3 seed

I still think the 2013 Thunder team was really damn good and could have won it all without the injury

Trades like this historically don't usually go very well. It's so much to give up for one guy.

I am super high on the cavs now. This is legit a lineup with 4 all-star or borderline all-star guys. And they're all like 25 or under, I think mitchell is now their oldest guy. If dan gilbert doesn't penny pinch they can keep this core together for a decade, GS style

I like the move for the Cavs. There's going to be question marks about their guards getting abused on defense but the other 3 in their starting lineup are all excellent defenders so it should balance out

Because the cavs signed darius garland to a 5 year rookie max extension, and because they just acquried mitchell on the same contract, when evan mobley comes up in a couple years, they will not be allowed to offer him a 5 year max rookie extension with those two guys still on the roster

Technically correct but realistically shouldn't come into play.

Mobley's rookie extension would kick in Y5 of Mitchell's current contract. His year 5 is a player option. If he's still the same caliber of player then he would opt out early and sign an extension allowing Mobley to be given the designated rookie max. If he isn't that player anymore then you move him.

Worst case they sign Mobley to a 4 year max instead of a 5 which sounds bad but no other team can offer the 5 year deal and their 4 year deal would still be more money than everyone else.
