Pierce/Garnett was a trade involving mid-30s players where the Nets mortaged their future and it took a long time to recover.

Irving/Durant were effectively free agent signings (Durant might have been a sign-and-trade involving D'Angelo Russell), and while they did trade for Harden, they did recoup assets when they flipped him to Philly.

Irving/Durant era was less successful but should not have the disastrous aftermath and opportunity costs of the Pierce/Garnett era.

I think kcf is correct from an assets standpoint, but it's hard to argue against the way in which this has completely exploded the nets, and it's all about kyrie imo. Even harden, distaste you may have for him, it's basically understood harden's reason for wanting out is because he was tired of kyrie's BS and how the nets basically let it happen.

Entirely depends what they get back because they don't own their own picks for the next 5 years and they are all unprotected. But given the assets they have, they should be able to recoup enough to stay competitive or at the very least not be a lower lotto team.

I've seen people say they should just try get a ton of picks but that's absolutely not the way to go. They want proven players, and preferably ones that are tied up for a few years. Picks can be involved too but it can't be cash dump and picks, has to be viable starters and picks.

There's actually a chance they come out of this better a few years down the line if they get the right guys

Based on the circumstances that led him to join the Warriors, he's clearly joining Boston.

boston probably has the best offer with brown + filler and picks assuming that phoenix won't include booker.

i'm still not ruling out a move back to the warriors though lol

The Nets are getting exactly what they deserve and even as someone who doesn't watch NBA it is a fun dumpster fire to watch unfold.

Tends to happen when 90% of the talk about your team is about a guy who doesn't play and cares nothing about the team~

i mean, if your team gets swept in the first round either way, then sure, you'd rather have dudes playing hard than egomaniacal superstars loafing around

but the reason you got kyrie and KD to begin with was because you (rightly) expected more success, and if they were staying together you'd still expect more success than you could out of a dlo/jarrett allen/levert core

so it's mainly a sour grapes remark. they were right to blow it up for superstars, just things broke poorly for them.

There was a time where they had durant/kyrie AND all those other pieces like allen etc. The mistake imo was trading all that for harden.

if i'm a team like portland or atlanta i'm calling up brooklyn to inquire about the availability of ben simmons if they're holding a fire sale and could potentially get him for cheap. concerns about his willingness to play aside, that's a potential game changer for teams that already have great shooters but poor defense and fancy themselves as real contenders. and there's really no better time than now to attempt to buy low

Well I'm not sure the deal would have worked cap wise if allen doesn't leave. He didn't go *directly* for harden but he was part of that deal so I'm counting it.

4 unprotected first rounders is absurd. especially when the warriors for sure and likely the mavericks/suns/clippers(?) can possibly play both centers off the floor in a playoff series

I think they are assuming the offensive mismatches are enough to offset the defense by putting him at PF. Hes got the spacing at least.

But with that pick amount why not just shoot for KD

Ainge knows how to acquire picks/fleece teams, I'll give him that.

I hate it. I mean essentially we do have four all-star caliber players on the roster now but that's only if you're a Gobert fan and still believe Russell has that ability. I personally have always been a Shaq-esque hater on Gobert, so to see him come to Minnesota and play for my team is pretty heartbreaking since I'll have to root for him now.

I just hate losing Beverly, because he was a culture changer for the T-Wolves. His can-win mentality went a long way in helping us establish a winning attitude this passed year, and to trade away another good defender in Vanderbilt for one dude is kinda... meh. Just because he makes all that money doesn't make him worth all that. I dunno, I'm just not feeling it. I'm glad for KAT since I think playing PF is more his style given his offensive capabilities and long range shooting ability, and lackluster defense. I just hope Edwards really turns into that league leading scoring champ he thinks he can be immediately.

Huge pickup for the warriors getting DiVincenzo on a cheap deal. Replaces the Gary Payton II minutes with another capable defender and a really solid player who had an unlucky injury and then an even worse turn of fate afterwards (traded to Kings)

Westbrook is the epitome of "dude plays hard" so I guess he would fit the Joe Tsai model

I think this is a result of the KD trade, theres like no real reason to have Kyrie

Best KD package that makes sense is probably Torontos or New Orleans? But of his preferred Phoenix has a way better offer than Miami.

KD doesn't have a no trade clause so they have absolutely no obligation whatsoever to send him to a preferred destination

Well, by contract he does not, but tbh I wouldn't be surprised if after seeing simmons pout for a year and force his way out of philly, and just the overall flow of how stars just leave when they want now, that other teams view his desire to be there as a legitimate issue. Is he gonna play hard? Is he gonna play at all? Will it be bad for the locker room? Etc. Just speculation on my part but I wouldn't be surprised if the culture of the NBA now has an effect.
