I guess at least Pelicans are close to the Texas teams and Oklahoma. Grizzlies kinda in the same boat. Twolves are basically on an island by themselves.

I assume we would still keep East/West but this would likely come with 8/8/8/8 divisional alignments?

West coast split is easy

Seattle / Portland / Warriors / Kings / Lakers / Clippers / Vegas / Suns

Denver / Utah / OKC / Mavs / Spurs / Rockets / Pelicans / Grizzlies

East coast is hard since there's way more teams in the North

Twolves / Bucks / Bulls / Pacers / Pistons / Cavs / Raptors / Sixers

Celtics / Knicks / Nets / Washington / Hornets / Hawks / Magic / Heat

I think you have to swap Sixers out for someone in that scenario. Wizards maybe?

Play everyone in your conference 3 times (45) and opposite conference 2 times (32) = 77 games

Play everyone in your 8 pack 4 times (28). Everyone else twice (48) = 76 games

Play everyone in your 8 pack 4 times (28). Everyone else in your conference 3 times (24). Everyone in opposite conference 2 times (32) = 84 games

There's probably a hybrid option in there where they play team an uneven amount of times as I think they said they wanted to get down to 64-72 games?

If you did 4 team pods

Everyone in your pod 4 times (12)
Everyone else in the league 2 times (56)
68 games total

That would possibly work but there would be zero point of an east/west split if that were the schedule. I'd be fine with that personally.

Everyone in your pod 4 times (12)
Everyone in opposite conference twice (32)
Match up with 1 pod in your conference annually on rotation for 3-4 games (12-16)
Everyone else in your conference 2 times (16)
72-76 games total

You would play 40-44 games in conference and 32 out of conference. So you could loosely justify the split still.

Really though they should just do away with it

the point would be to limit travel in the playoffs and ensure that games until the finals are at reasonable start times for fans of both teams

I know it's $$$ but man the NBA already has talent stretched really thin. We are gonna see some truly terrible teams with 2 more teams in the mix.

Yeah, has to be. Like affairs are a shitty thing to do but it doesn't appear to be abuse of power if it's consensual like they said.

I always feel like affairs are super overblown into being bigger deals than they are. They happen far more frequently than people act and outside the individuals involved, who gives a fuck. It isn't illegal and it's their personal private life. And I say this as someone whose first marriage failed because my ex wife had an affair in the workplace with one of her direct reports. So I have first hand experience of being on the receiving end.

Far be it for me to argue with someone that has firsthand experience, but I feel like cheating on your partner is the absolute shittiest non-illegal thing you can do to a person and I'm generally in favor of strong consequences for people who do it.

Yeah personally I dont care what people are doing or sleeping with in the workplace. I get for jobs like this its an image thing for not only the person who did it but they fairly or not also represent the organization.

A year is wild though, makes me think it maybe wasnt consensual. Or he abused his power and forced/pressured it.

Thing is as the coach hes basically the head figure in the locker room and in a major position of power. It looks bad no matter which way you try to reason with it

tbh even if you think it's overkill, I still applaud the org for making it known that this kind of behavior (If it was in fact an affair) isn't acceptable and trying to set a good example. I think it's better too much punishment than not enough.

Thing is, you never know what is going on behind closed doors in people's relationships. People also change over time, I certainly wasn't the same person by the time I divorced as I was when I started dating my first wife. And that's regardless of her affair.

My parents had a shitty abusive relationship (in both directions), it would have been far more beneficial to both of them (and myself) if they had divorced sooner than they did even if it would have needed an affair to cause it. Both of them then went on to happier, healthier marriages afterwards.

My boss is the VP of Operations for a large company. He's been married now for 6 years to someone who was his direct report and he had an affair with whilst in a previous relationship (not married but serious). I'm friends with both him and his ex and their relationship was a disastrous toxic mess on so many levels but neither of them would have exited from without him initially cheating. Both of them now happily married to other people. The company's response to it was a slap on the wrists for my boss and they moved his now wife to report to a different senior director to prevent a conflict of interests.

Yes it would be better if people could be more upfront about it, talk about it and split up before it gets to an affair but in general people suck about discussing and dealing with their problems. I'm sure the shittier and more strained the marriage becomes, the more tempting an affair becomes. Of course there are some people who are just pieces of shit and will have affair even in a happy marriage.

The idea of making a lifelong commitment and sticking to it through thick and thin is a nice thought but for a lot of people just leads to them being miserable and resentful. It's great for the people who it works out for and all power to them. I certainly hope my marriage ends up being lifelong and it's far healthier than my first one. But I also think people should not stay in bad situations because of a dated concept of a lifelong commitment

There is probably too much we don't know and will never know to say 100%, but my opinion is if they gave ime a chance to explain and this was a situation of "I hate my wife and we're in teh process of getting divorced so it should be okay" they wouldn't be contemplating a year off. Ergo, it seems more likely to me that this was a straight up bad affair or as you said, maybe just straight up disregarded a "no workplace dating" rule. I think the former, I am okay with a year off. The latter, I am not.

It's probably as simple as... he nailed a subordinate, but he went to the finals last year.

There's already been reports that he was separated from his wife prior to the affair but it just wasn't public knowledge. Not sure how credible they are though.

If they suspend him for the year like they are reporting then there's absolutely more to it than we don't know.

Now that I've chance to think about it and this is pure speculation, I'm betting the person he slept with is probably married to someone else within the organization. That would warrant heavy punishment as it makes the third person's position potentially untenable. Or that third person could be fairly high up and demanding a heavy punishment

yeah if I had to guess, if it truly was a consensual relationship in every sense of the word, the affair was with the partner of someone higher up in the organization and they just want to punish Udoka to the fullest extent of their power without firing him

I know you're only joking but I doubt her work gave a fuck to be honest and it wasn't a small company (Crayola). I didn't really know anyone she worked with and I had no desire to report it even if I did. Given it was super obvious to me what was going on and I'm sure she was trying to hide it from me, it had to have been super obvious to people she worked with especially since the last I knew they were engaged (this was several years ago). There definitely wasn't any repercussions that I was aware of and he was still working for her at the point we divorced.

Everything worked out for the best in the end though so I can't complain. I met my wife shortly afterwards and we've been together 6 years now. My first marriage was toxic and unhealthy, if she hadn't had an affair it would have likely ended for another reason down the line. My marriage now I can count on one hand the number of arguments we've had in 6 years (I'm not even exaggerating). There was a very small window of opportunity for me to meet my wife and a lot of quirky circumstance that led up to it. If everything hadn't gone down how it did, I'd have probably never met her.

I still don't know how to feel about this season. With the way it ended last year, the drama involving Ayton and the supposed rift between him and Monty. All the KD, and uhh, this. I get it's pre-season but still. Paul is only getting older and at some point, regardless, he is going to start showing his age like a normal human. I can only hope Booker takes his next step in his game and becomes the perennial star-MVP player we know he can be. I don't think we are gonna be the #1 seed, and winning cures all, I think Suns end up around 49-52 wins this year, middle seed. They play better as underdogs I think.

The excitement is to see if the Spurs tank hard enough to get the #1 pick
