Rupees and Caps are the two best, easily. Rupees have an iconic design that's easily the most recognizable for any in-game currency (tbh they wouldn't be a consideration if you didn't actually SEE them). Using bottlecaps as currency is pretty awesome. I hope I have enough saved up by when the world ends.

How about Star Ocean's Fol, which is accepted in all cultures on all planets, including ones that have no contact with or even concept of life on other worlds.

Yes, I know SO3's infamous plot twist sort of explains this, but I refuse to accept that bullshit. Plus it was already the case in SO1&2, and I don't believe they had it planned ahead of time.

I think it's suggested multiple times in 1 and 2 that all of the civilizations and intelligent races in the galaxy were seeded by some ancient proto civilization (presumably Nede). Though some of the stuff about how the Expelians were decended from the Nedeians got buried in some obscure PAs/endings, most notably one of Bowman's endings where he finally translated the ancient text that you fetched earlier in the game yet never came up in the story again and discovers that it was actually about the history of Nede. And then while I don't think it's explicitly stated it's also implied that Earth is related to the Nedeians as well (Nede is super blatantly supposed to be Eden, which humans were chased out of by god's angels because they acquired forbidden knowledge. It kind of got fudged in the localization for obvious reasons though.)
