I can imagine the calculation might be that they're already locked into having Heard in the movie in some capacity which is enough to put off people disgusted by her, so might as well lean into the ones on Heard's side

just like there are dudes on the internet ready to disparage any woman in the public eye, there are dudes ready to white knight any woman in the public eye

From what I've seen anecdotally, it's mostly women championing her.

Not only that, but the literal head exec of DC films also said her acting was so bad that they had to do massive post-production to even make her tolerable on the screen.

Anyway, I won't see Aquaman 2 or Flash out of principle.

Concerning who is championing her, it's mostly bad faith left wing grifters. There's a Stanford legal professor who actually called Camile Vasquez a Pick Me Girl for having defended Johnny Depp. Just gross stuff from people who can't be fucked to look at the facts, or refuse to accept them.

I agree to an extent, but there are limits to that. I don't think I could enjoy anything Bill Cosby is in anymore, for example.

That being said, I have zero interest in Aquaman 2 to begin with, so my decision was already made regardless.

I mean, there's "separate the art from the artist" and then "giving more money to this massive corporation who put someone in a movie in a now minor role who lied about the most horrific physical and sexual abuse you could accuse someone of for clout to take advantage of a movement made for actual victims of abuse".

She's in it for 10 minutes (or 20 minutes in this new cut, which is probably to test how people react to her having more time). You can reshoot for those scenes, and you should. She's a gross, abusive, awful person who gaslit the world and continues to gaslight them on the backs of actual victims of abuse.

"separate the art from the artist" is just a silly clich when the reality is simply weighing your repulsion against your enjoyment

stop making moral decisions from clichs that just want to shortcut you

If the options are keeping Heard as Mera or Mera being killed off screen Id take the latter without any hesitation even though replacing her actress would be for the best.

After the trial, I actively boycott anything Amber Turd is in. Should be obvious why, with the abuse and the lies and trying to put herself, as an abuser, among the victims. Hell, if she were a generic Stormtrooper thug in a Star Wars film without any speaking lines, that would be enough for me to not go see it.

I went to do a little research to double check what I was about to say but

Anyway, this movie is going to be successful anyway because they aren't making this movie for America, they're making it for China and surrounding countries it did absolutely enormous numbers for. Even if it sinks in America, overseas it's going to more than make up for it.

In addition to what others have said, this thinking completely flies out the window for anything that literally hasn't already been released. There was no outcry when Kevin Spacey got cut out of All The Money in the World, a move that in all likelihood probably barely kept it from being a flop.

For example, stand up comedians are probably the worst to get affected by this because the art is entirely them. I don't care if a sexual assaulter can make funny jokes, I'll still feel disgusted watching them

i really don't think this is a case of me "having bad reading comprehension" or "taking things too literally," i think biscuit just worded his point poorly. when you're discussing a trial, it's especially important to word things precisely and carefully. you, as a lawyer, should know this.

I appreciate your point. I feel like qualitatively there is a difference between stereotyping people for food preferences and stereotyping people as being unlikely to be bigoted against themselves. Like, if he argued that you are Dutch and therefore you aren't bigoted against Dutch people.... is that a problem? I mean you could be Dutch and also hate Dutch people, but the percentage of people who feel that way is really low, and I don't think any harm is really done to you by inferring that you probably aren't bigoted.

it kinda is if he confidently states that i'm not bigoted against dutch people because i'm dutch. again, i have no problem with the statement that i'm probably not bigoted against dutch people.

admittedly, this analogy doesn't entirely work; i've posted on this board for a long time so biscuit probably knows that i'm not a bigot, against dutch people or otherwise. on the other hand, he knows next to nothing about the officer in the heard incident, other than that she's a cop and she's gay. so the assumptions he makes about her are a lot more unfounded. a better analogy would be "if biscuit argued that a random dutch guy is not bigoted against dutch people, is that a problem?" my answer to that would be "yes, that is a problem."

I like how there's this cult backing Johnny Depp every step of the way and it still wasn't enough to prevent him from being in lots of flops over the past decade. If anything THAT'S the real reason he got dropped like a hot potato by film studios, along with him allegedly being a real pain on the sets of films like Pirates 5.

It's probably better for Depp to be in smaller films like he was earlier in his career anyway. No more repeating the Jack Sparrow routine in big blockbusters.
