I know this has probably been suggested before, but maybe an idea for a future character battle could be: Character Duos. So it would be Mario and Luigi vs Link and Zelda in the finals but the road there could be pretty fun. Thoughts?

Armored Characters
Magic Users
Dead People
Non-Humans

......and so on.

could be cool as long as it didn't devolve into just "the popular characters of normal battles + someone else" and focused on actual significant pairs. Also might be hard to differentiate it from rivals in some cases (ex. Scorpion + Sub-Zero)

Except no, it wouldn't. Not only is Navi not an action character in the slightest, she's a single game companion character. Zelda has actually assisted Link twice in combat, including once as a companion character in Spirit Tracks.

Be better to just keep it at single entries. Rivals was like an experiment that was pretty crap in the end. Plus you hit a problem before the contest even starts trying to figure out who goes with who.

I personally want a 20th anniversary bracket. Half the bracket consist of the original 2002 bracket and the other half is new characters that came about since then.

The 2002 contest would need reseeding as it's a bit of a joke looking back on it. Squall against Snake round 1 was never a good idea even if this was a brand new idea going into the unknown.

If we must have the 2002 bracket return, it should be re-seeded and only be one half of the field (or less!), with the other portion being characters not in 2002.

Maybe instead of literally redoing the 2002 bracket, there could just be a bracket for pre-2002 characters and another one for characters created since then? The actual 2002 bracket has loads of characters we don't need to see again.

I like this idea. Make it like the 2006 Male/Female bracket. One bracket is characters who were in that 2002 bracket facing off against each other. Other bracket is characters who weren't, including characters who were around back then but didn't make the bracket (though it's mostly newer ones). The 2002 characters would still have to be nominated and seeded, of course. Top 32 make it in.

Also, only two matches a day in the first round, not four. And then it goes down to one a day in the second round. That way, the contest lasts a bit longer but doesn't go on too long.

This concept would probably not work, but I will admit that I have a tiny bit of interest in this concept if for no other reason than that I would personally be willing to pull the trigger and go with Mario/Luigi for the win instead of Link/Zelda or whomever he gets paired with.

Man I remember wanting to see the 2002 bracket re-run for its 10th anniversary in 2012. Hard to believe it's been 10 years since then.

Would've probably been more fun running it on the 10th anniversary. Even then some of the characters would be so outdated and random by 2012 standards.
