It's been a long time since we had a bug poll! Today and tomorrow we will vote on virtually all the remaining bug pokemon that haven't been in polls yet. These are two-stage mons with primary bug typing and are typically found later than the early bugs. Paras is a bit early I know, but I forgot to put it in the early polls way back when so it's here now. Shelmet, Dwebble, and Golisopod have already been in polls.

Joltik is a top 10 Pokemon

Surprised how much I love this group. The gen 1 batch absolutely holds my heart (Scyther top tier, Venonat niche love I used to draw a lot)

but I've always liked the gen 2 batch a lot as well, and Karrablast & Joltik are cuties too

Joltik's cute, I like Larvesta's moodiness, but Scyther takes it

I always forget how much I love bug types. Radical Red and RenPlat warmed me up to the crappy Gen 3 and 4 ones, and GF really stepped up their game with bugs from Gen 5 onwards.

Actually, Karrablast and Larvesta are meh here but their evos are much better so I'll allow it. Overall, every line here at least one 6/10 minimum and I'm pretty harsh on ratings. Also, Paras is from a top 2 Gen 1 line. Zombie mushroom body horror thing is probably the best idea from a relatively concept-light gen, and both it and Parasect have a brilliant ugly-creepy-cute thing going on. I've used them a bunch in playthroughs and while I wish they were better, they're still very usable and will always be some of my favourites.

Goes without saying that Joltik, Scyther and Yanma are all great lines too. Plus Venonat looks fuzzy and huggable.

I expected Joltik to run away with this, forgetting that Scyther is actually a 2 stage Pokemon.

Seeing Scyther in Pokemon Pinball (alongside Aerodactyl) was what convinced me that I absolutely NEEDED the main game when I was a kid.

Never actually caught him as a kid, but that's a strong formative Pokemon. Honestly do like most of these, though - tiny bug, zombie bug, "well actually it's not a pinecone", there's some good in here!

Joltik > Scyther > Larvesta for the top three but there's not a bad one in the bunch.

these are surprisingly good. not too interested in Karrablast or Yanma, but the rest get the thumbs up.

i have a soft spot for paras- it was (and still is?) my sister's favorite

it's too bad that it's soooooo weeeak. i think they were afraid of spore (100% accuracy sleep) being imbalanced

Yanma is a tough one for me because I liked it a lot when I first played G/S but I had a rather disturbing encounter with a dragonfly in college that kinda ruined them all for me. That being said, Yanmega being bigger and scarier makes me hold it more against that.

I was in a classroom and it was a nice September day so we had the door open and our classroom was right next to the hallway's door outside, which was also open. Suddenly a giant-ass dragonfly flew in. I mean, the thing was huge. Legit, it had to have mutated or something because there's no way they get that big naturally. Its body was probably a foot long. The entire class was came to a halt. It landed on a girl's shoulder and sat there for almost a minute. Poor girl was absolutely petrified. Finally it flew back outside but the entire class was pretty jarred, especially the girl it landed on. I've been creeped out by dragonflies ever since.

Man I hated how non viable bugs were in gen 1. Loved all 3 of beedrill, Scyther and pinsir

I don't like Venonat's feet, and I never cared about Scyther. My fav gen 1 here is Paras. Always had a soft spot for the little thing, I hope one day it gets a regional evo where it defeats the parasite and we get to see what bug it could turn into!

My vote is Yanma, though I like Pineco and Joltik too. Larvesta isn't great but I really like that it has glowing blue eyes for some reason. Most of these improve significantly on evolution.
