memes aside I'm starting to think this is about the BEST case scenario we can hope for: a vaguely amicable and mostly bloodless split. I think "healing" or just carrying on is looking less and less and less likely every day.

Yep. Gerrymandering would be a non issue if states were evenly blue and red.

I actually think federal abortion bans might be similar to federal marijuana bans, were occasionally you have blow ups but mostly nobody does anything.

I do think it would result in some fairly bloody riots between protestors though. I think you would see abortion clinic bombings increase dramatically

Problem: How exactly do you split the US so everybody is fine with the result? The West Coast and Northeast kind of make sense to split off, but that still leaves a lot of blue areas behind.

yeah like... states are pretty arbitrarily bordered and theres not the clear slave/no slave line to cut down this time

Illinois alone is a huge issue. Were a consistently blue state, but the lower half (3/4? A lot!) of the state absolutely would not want to be on the blue side of a split.

So, in Mighigan, somebody dropped their car off to be maintained at a dealership. At said dealership, an undertrained employee attempted to start the vehicle while standing outside of it, and it lurched forward and crushed and killed another employee.

Due to state law, the management of the dealership cannot be sued, despite their fault in employing the undertrained/underqualified employee. Who can and is being sued, though? The employee, and the owner of the vehicle.

Our country is fucked up.

EDIT: The reasoning being that, under current law, if you drop your vehicle off to be serviced at a dealership or auto shop, it's deemed the same as lending it to somebody else, and therefore you are to be held responsible for anything that happens with it in the process. Meanwhile, the dealership/auto shop is protected from responsibility.

Of course they'll comply. They would have no choice. Don't think a federal ban is coming though - first it's probably unconstitutional, second it sets a bad precedent (what if Dems want to codify Roe v. Wade?), third it's impractical for a lot of people including in red states.

I always forget you live here too. I'd say its pretty close to the bottom 3/4 outside of college towns. Everything down there is deep red for the most part. I remember the first time I went down state taking I57 and you get to Effingham and there is a fourteen story tall cross waiting for you.
