They seem to be hinting towards Death Knights returning

Obviously they need to be buffed to be relevant in this meta though

Pretty much across the board the new hero cards are better than the old death knights.

(With the exception of Shadowreaper Anduin all of the new hero cards are used more than the old hero cards in wild).

According to the VS podcast, this is a surprisingly balanced meta. Hunter is still okay, and even warrior has a tier 2 deck.

Not really what I expected; the almost universal response to this patch was that it wasn't enough.

The game is pretty balanced but its also very boring right now

I will say I've been sticking more to wild lately, due to some dissatisfaction with standard.

When I've poked my head into standard games, I haven't been a big fan of the way standard plays out, where the person who Denathriuses first usually wins (unless they didn't draw Denathrius early enough to charge it up, or it gets stolen by Theotar). I hear it's less of an issue at higher level play, where maybe aggro decks threaten to end games before turn 10, but my exposure to standard lately has been playing meme and quest completing decks in casual, which...yeah, pretty reliably go till turn 10.

I've been split between wild and arena since Denathrius. At this point standard is now the mode I use to grind out quests I otherwise wouldn't complete. I'll still occasionally run into Denathrius in wild but it's nowhere near as often. Feels like it's more...

50% C'thun 2.0

It's amazing how often I queue into C'thun, and the one time the opponent actually played it I still won.

Wild C'Thun 2.0 Druid was at one point a meta high legend worthy deck in wild. The idea was that all the cards in your deck were spells (other than some minions you pull out early on with Oaken Summons) so you can run Fungal Fortunes as a 3 mana draw 3 and not lose your win condition. And 3 mana draw 3 is freakishly good. But it's not the easiest deck to pilot--you really need to save moonlit guidance so that you can get multiple copies of C'thun; and if they save a dirty rat or mutanis, you might need to save multiple copies of moonlit guidance or solar flare+moonlit guidance. I imagine it's not so bad with a deck tracker, but I tried running that deck without a deck tracker in casual, and...yeah, did not go well; easy to lose track of whether you've still got another copy of moonlit guidance in the deck. One time I even lost track of the fact that I already shuffled C'thun into my deck and just drew it with no way of copying it.

If they're running C'thun 2.0 in any class other than druid, though, then I have absolutely no clue what they are doing or how they are supposed to win. 30 damage doesn't win against any opponent with minions in play.

I've been seeing it mostly in Mage, often times in the same decks that run double quests. Probably the same reasoning as why I mostly play RenaReno decks, aka Run All The Fun Shit At Once decks.

I'm also not at high, or any, legend though.

Well, ok, yeah mage double quest new c'thun does just sound like a for-fun meme deck, yeah.

I usually have at least a decent idea of what quality of Arena deck I draft once it's over.

This no-endgame, zero-spell Spiteful Summoner deck getting to 7 wins is throwing everything I thought I knew out the window.

I really like the rune design on death knights. Feels like MtG multicolour decks.

I'm not sure I like the corpse mechanic.

For two weeks yes.

(Much shorter than the doom in the tomb event, cause the main feedback they got from that event is that it lasted too long).

So far...none of the death knights seem super noteworthy in standard. I haven't seen anyone find a good home for Keleseth. But you know what is still good? Spreading Plague, Ultimate Infestation, Defile, Spectral Pillager, Shadow Essence, Eternal Servitude, Hadronox. Those are the main cards I've seen people messing with.

I guess I did also see one aggro druid using strongshell scavenger and saronite chain gang.

I imagine there will be some shamans using Ice Fishing, but surprisingly I haven't noticed any yet.

I'm assuming a lot of it has to do with the two event quests being geared towards it, but I played five games just now and four of them were against Frost Lich Jaina. Was running Guldan myself, but that was also just for the quest as I was more interested in Defile/Dreadlord/Gnomeferatu.

I wonder if its a death knight cosplay contest for any of the heroes

The Knights of Hallows End Event will last for two weeks after the launch of Patch 24.6. Knights of the Frozen Throne will be part of the Core Set from the launch of Patch 24.6 until March of the Lich King launches on December 6!

Jaina has some potential to work with new cards, cause she works well with all the ping mage cards (wildfire, reckless apprentice), so one of the DKs that is worth testing with new cards.

That said, I was just watching Kibler trying to run Jaina and he was just dying every game before he could get Jaina going, so that seems like a problem.

Hm, well, watching high legend streamers so far the DK that has actually made a comeback is DK Malfurion. It's not that people aren't running Guff, they're just running both. And Malf can both keep you alive against aggro with an effective 10 health of taunt and 5 armour, as well as go for lethals with 3 damage to face.

I like all the new mechanics death knight has, like the deck building rune restrictions. Im a lot more excited for the class than, say, I was for demon Hunter when it was first revealed

I still only have something like 23 wins with Demon Hunter. Probably going to surpass that with Death Knight pretty early on.

Just had maybe the coolest, yet least intuitive win ever as a Control Shaman that I tossed Saronite Chain Gang into, just for shits and giggles.

Naga Priest had 2 decent sized minions it was building up. I had an Infused Devourer in hand, but it was turn 8, so I couldn't use it yet. I figured my best chance to survive was to put as many taunts in the way, so I played Bolner into Chain Gang, but because Bolner is the one that triggers the battlecry, he makes a copy of himself, so I was slightly worried he was going to connect with my face.

Turned out he didn't; he just made really big taunts to put in my way and my two Bolners were still on the board. I played Devourer to eat his smallest stuff, then the Bolners both ate the remaining gigantic taunts to gain massive stats and clobber him in the face for lethal.

I'm happy to report, Big Priest is BACK

Ice Revenant to "gain +1/+1 when you cast a frost spell" (was +2/+2--apparently it was broken with death knight).

Glad Theo is getting a second nerf and yet there's still complete silence on the card that requires people to run it in the first place.

I started again recently.

I left for a year but came back too early for free packs.

I'm having an okay time playing Battlegrounds but 1 game of Standard against a 40 health Druid makes me want to uninstall again. So maybe I should just stick to BGs.

Genuine, non trolling question to the topic. How do you guys find enjoyment when playing Hearthstone?

Is it deck building? Pulling off fun combos? Ruining other people's days with annoying decks?

Because playing 1 game against 40 health Druid who has 16 mana on turn 8, 20 armor, and a Lich King + Mo'arg Forgefiend on board I genuinely do not understand how I ever enjoyed playing this game.

And it took me about 10 minutes to even get to this position when I should have just conceded on turn 1.

I'm not interested in the meta or counters for this deck, just how do you guys find fun in Hearthstone?

I play battlegrounds mostly.

And sometimes mercenary.

And when I want gold I finish quests by playing the fastest decks possible to get those reps in.

Aggro druid is VERY fast.

I almost exclusively play Arena. It's super fucked up right now though, because it's only got old sets so it feels like playing 2017 Hearthstone. If you ever get behind on board just slightly, there's almost no way to come back unless you happen to be one of the lucky few and get offered a flamestrike or lightning storm.

I find fun from playing the game thats pretty much it.

For posterity, I just hopped on and played one Arena game. Nexus-Champion Saraad won it for me because he survived for 6 turns. My winning move was mage pinging my own minion, using Rampage on it, and Mortal Striking my opponent's face. My lone 4/5 minion on turn 7 was just too much to overcome.

Honestly, just don't play standard. Every time I try to play standard it's easily the worst experience in the game and that holds true even in the rare games that don't involve Denathrius. I don't play often enough to get beyond gold, so I'm sure when you get to the top of wild it's probably terrible as well, but the early ranks are mostly enjoyable because everyone is playing random crap.

It's not. They're doing dual class arena for Halloween so you get to draft cards from two different classes, which should be fun, but they did something with the offering rates and you get almost exclusively neutral cards. My current run is Paladin/Mage and I have three Mage cards and 27 neutrals, and I'm honestly not sure if I was even offered a single Paladin card during the entire draft. It's horrible.

I feel like I would honestly make the argument Duels is the best format and its not that close, its just goofy fun and feels way more interesting than arena

the downside is you often get paired against the same people higher up when you queue

I did really enjoy the times where my initial class was Demon Hunter and my opponent tried to Burgle me or play Nefarius and not get any cards.

I love standard, its the mode I play the most by far
