No, he's talking about the one on Steam.

It's a decent rpg and on the switch it's portable so yeah, i'd say it's worth it. Personally anything that has a good chance of giving you 1 hour of fun per dollar you spend is very worth it, even if it's not portable.

It's a good, albeit flawed, game that harkens back to classic SNES era RPGs, and tries to do something fun with its turn-based combat. However, I would say 60 is a bit much, but good luck needing to pay less for a Nintendo game.

I can't say I have high hopes for a Squenix mobile-only game. They don't exactly have the best track record for not being parasitic vultures in that medium.

I didn't find the dialogue compelling enough.

No, the only good game Tomoya Asano has made was apparently Bravely Default.

I don't know, but it has an art direction that I advocated for years before it came out. A blend between classic video games and realistic backgrounds. 3D Dot Game Heroes did something similar but not to the same effect that Octopath did.

I'd like to see Mario or Pokemon take that approach.

Personally I think Octopath (and the Bravely series and everything else the core staff has touched) is an extremely bland and mindless RPG with extremely clunky battle mechanics. The series looks and sounds very nice but the writing in particular really showcases the weird hollowness to everything. The character "Thateth talketh liketh thiseth" in particular is one of the only things I remember clearly about the game because it was so aggravating and dumb.

If you're in the mood for a boring, overly long, mediocre RPG though it's definitely not worth full price. It goes on sale pretty regularly on every system its on.

To each their own - it's far and away the best RPG released in the last 20+ years. I've easily sunk a couple hundred hours into it.

Obviously I hate the game but "far and away the best RPG released in the last 20+ years" is definitely a a far less popular opinion than mine. I don't think it would be that hard to make a list of 20+ RPGs better than Octopath, lol

I'd wait for a sale. Although I'm rather surprised it isn't on sale in the current Square Enix sale.

If you want it on Switch then there's a demo for it.

Otherwise I would recommend you get it on a sale because the combat is completely broken when you figure it out and Tressa is the best character in the game.

Thats unfortunate :( I am the type that has no self control and exploit it till the point I would get bored of the game.

I found the basic combat mechanic utterly boring. "Destroy the enemy's armour with several different kind of weaknesses before they rake real damage" gets very old very fast if every encounter features it. And random encounters are very frequent. It's a cool mechanic for bosses, though. Oh, and the final-final boss theme is superbly awesome.

It's even worse than Bravely Default, despite coming out many years later and being made by the same dev team.
