This isn't technically 'third version cover legendaries', I think Suicune will fit better alongside its beastly pals and it would feel wrong not to include Zygarde here. Zygarde is the only one I really like (and mostly only 50%, though cell doggo is fine too). Rayquaza and Giratina are fine. The other three are big messes, lol.

Gen 1's major trio of legendaries are Mega Charizard X, Mega Charizard Y, and Gigantamax Charizard.

I kinda like Kyurem here. The first three are decent enough, then you get to Zygarde and it gets a bit like "what the everloving fuck is this". I have genuinely never seen that shitty dog thing or Ultra Necrozma before, somehow. Thought I did the Zygarde quest too in Moon, but apparently not. The Necrozma alternate forms are actually kinda pretty and better than the cover legendaries, but base Necrozma is hideous and not in an interesting way like some of the other legendaries. And don't get me started on Eternatus.

I really want them to just stop doing legendaries. I know this won't happen. For some reason every new version needs to be headed by a legendary, and there needs to be a secondary trio, and event Pokemon, and all that bollocks. But after Diamond/Pearl/Platinum and introducing literally God (who is a llama stuck in a fence), I think that it's best to just leave legendaries lie and use existing ones more interestingly, or maybe make new ones when you see a specific gap that needs to be filled. They're consistently the most unappealing designs, and particularly in Gen 8, it felt like they didn't have a ton of good ideas for new concepts lying about. 10% of the new dex in each generation does not need to be legendaries or mythicals. I'd much rather more interesting stories with the stuff they've already made (a bit like in Legends Arceus, really). Make a game with a lower stakes but more focused plot that centers around Victini or Celebi, the Regis or the Ultra Beasts (admittedly I have never played US/UM nor finished Moon so idk how much focus they got there). I feel like after the first four gens and their regions which particularly felt like they had a ton of mythology and lore about the universe as a whole, it'd have been fine to shift away from these sorts of stories.

Necrozma only goes wild in US/UM, until then it was just the one black form. I didn't finish US/UM either so I had no idea til yesterday.

Zygarde is a pokemon that you gradually build by finding all 100 of its Zygarde Cells scattered around the region, when you have 10% you can form it as the dog, 50% you have enough to form it as the serpent thing, then all 100 you can make Complete Zygarde. I enjoyed it as a pretty neat function.

I like Rayquaza decently enough and Giratina is a conceptually cool bobbit worm dragon but the execution is kinda middling. The rest look seriously half-baked.
