Do you think they're evil for doing this?

The family of a 4 y/o boy battling LEUKEMIA are being EVICTED from a Ronald McDonald House in Vancouver, Canada because they are REFUSING to get vaccinated against COVID-19 but the charity says they are offering them alternative accomodations!!

They provide temporary housing for families of children undergoing treatment for serious medical conditions but on Monday the family was sent out a letter to all residents notifying them that a vaccine mandate was going into effect and they have until January 17th followed by a 2 week grace period

Everyone 5 years or older must get at least one dose and those who refuse will be asked to leave by January 31

Austin Fergason, a father of 2 from Kelowna shared a video on social media confronting an administrator there where his family had been staying while his 4 y/o son, Jack is undergoing Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

In the video he shows the letter of the mandate and then confronts someone there saying "i just want to get this straight: by the end of the month, my 4 y/o boy with leukemia is getting evicted because we don't have a vaccine?" The woman says it doesn't apply to his son since he is under 5 but only to them

He yells and says "This is some kind of craz evil like i've never seen in my life. You are robbing us of seeing her son go through the hardest moment of his life all because of this vaccine which doesn't even work anyway? It's covid. We all die. Why are you so scared?"

The charity tells citytv that they wil work to find alternative housing for the parents such as hotels but made it clear that all residents 5 and older must be vaccinated

Ferguson launches into an argument with the people there in a shouting match saying those who have been vaccinated can still get it and transmit and accuses them of forcing them to choose between his kid and getting a fake vaccine against his beliefs and points out that GOD protects them from viruses.

He claims they are not anti-vaxxers but does not trust a vaccine made in less than a year and that doesn't even work

The CDC has noted that the vaccines are not 100% foolproof and people can still get sick and spread the disease but is the most effective treatment to COVID-19

His video has now gone viral with a mixed reaction

Do you think this charity is evil for booting them out?.

Not at all. While it is their choice to not get vaccinated they can't expect to not face consequences.

Not what they actually said, apparently. The real "promise" was meaningless, the kind of thing I'll promise to get people to shut up while having no follow-through. "Will work to find" means nothing.

Their own selfish actions are the reason why they're being evicted, so I don't feel sorry for them. The only person I feel sorry for is the 4-year old that has to not only suffer from leukaemia, but selfish parents that aren't willing to get vaccinated to keep the roof over their heads, showing once again anti-vaxxers are selfish individuals that don't care about those around them.

Any real parent would sacrifice anything and everything as well as be willing to put their own egos aside to ensure their child is safe.

My uncle-in-law has a gandkidkid who is in a similarly unfavorable position.

Kid's been fighting like a champ, but their options for treatment are dwindling as fewer and fewer places are willing to let his idiotic antivax parents and grandparents in.

They do it under this false veil of christianity. God will protect them, and jesus is their vaccine. I donno what they think about Leyden though, since evidently god didnt protect him. I guess at 8 years old he's just not a good enough christian?

It's not religious, its political, and its idiotic. They have a sick, immune compromised kid, and they'd rather he die than upset their ultra conservative friends. Fuck these people.

This makes me think of something. When someone prays to God because they need money, he wont make a bag of money appear. But he would probably help you to get a job where you make money. And that same logic could be used with hospitals. When you pray for someone to get better, he may not just make them better. But he would give you a doctor who could do that

A man is stranded on the roof of his house during a catastrophic flood, with the water slowly rising. Some of his neighbours pass by in a rowboat and offer to save him, but he says "no thanks, God will save me." Some time passes, the water rises further, and some more neighbours pass by in a larger boat and offer to save him, but again he says "no thanks, God will save me." More time passes, and the water has risen to his feet, when a SaR helicopter flies by, offering to rescue him. Again, though, he says "no thanks, God will save me," and the helicopter crew moves on to rescue anyone else they can find. The water continues to rise, and the man drowns.

Upon arriving in heaven, then man asks God "I had absolute faith in you, why did you abandon me to die?" God says "I sent you two boats and a helicopter, dude. You're just a dumbass."

That's not an official biblical parable, obviously, but it's one that's seen an awful lot of use in recent months. Being religious does not in any way require you to reject all earthly help. One can very easily believe in a benevolent God by believing that he helps mankind by granting some of us the intelligence and ingenuity to solve the problems we all face. Religious objections to vaccines are stupid, and more often than not just amount to people making flimsy excuses to avoid admitting that they're scared of the shot (fear which is actually quite justifiable and could be assuaged if they stopped clinging to it as a matter of personal identity).

Mostly, it's that vaccination is actually a safety requirement. Respecting religion is generally a good thing, but there are practical limits to that. Nobody has the right to put anyone else at risk for the sake of their religious practice.

Precisely. They're also endangering their own kid, of course, but that is (unfortunately) their right. They have no such right to endanger other children in the facility, though, so as soon as they start doing that, they can find somewhere else to stay. That the charity is offering to find other accommodations for them in spite of their blatant refusal to participate in creating a safe environment for other guests is honestly more than they deserve.

Yeah, this is pretty rough situation this isn't like vaccination check at a sporting event which can matter. There are likely kids at this facility that could be hugely impacted by getting Covid, and as we have seen those with other medical problems that get Covid are far more likely to die or face serious issues with it.
