So apparently Demon Slayer just saved anime. Is this the case? I have no emotional context for this fight and while it looks flashy, it ultimately reminds me of the old DBZ "both fighters punching rapidly and swishing around the battlefield".

Izumi and Shikimori are a typical lovey-dovey high school couple, that is, until Izumi clumsily falls into trouble. Then Shikimori turns into a very cool heroine that makes everyone's heart beat.

I haven't read it myself, but the premise sounds cool and I want to check it out

It is a fairly average Shonen with very well done fight scenes. It is very pretty so people have lost their mind about it.

Yeah, the presentation in general for the show is excellent. Art, animation, backgrounds, etc.

Story and characters are also solid but nothing exceptional.

Yeah I know I don't contribute much to these topics but I'm kinda bored with shonen stuff.

Like my best watches of this past year were Odd Taxi and Carole & Tuesday (which I obviously got to late).

Odd Taxi was brilliant.

Not huge on demon slayer. It looks nice, but w/e. There's just so much good stuff out there, but most people only know about shounen or the extremely popular stuff that gets plastered everywhere.

Today's episode of anime taught me: women talk about which of their BFs would be the top and which the bottom

Demon Slayer is what Attack on Titan failed to be.

In other news, I've decided I want Bojii from Ranking of Kings and Mob from Mob Psycho to join forces as the literal best boys of anime.

As of today, the English dub for Eighty-Six has officially caught up with the subbed version, and now I'm stuck in the same wait for the last two episodes as everyone else it. GOD DAMN IT, THIS EPISODE WAS SO FUCKING GOOD TOO.

Watched the first episode of Shenmue just now, it seems like it could be a pretty decent adaptation. I played the games for the first time when the remasters came out a few years back and actually really liked them.

I've had Shenmue III sitting around forever but never got around to playing it; kind of forgot the finer details of the story from the first two and wanted to maybe do another run of them before starting it. However if this anime can kind of refresh me then I can jump into III when it's done. Judging by the OP it seems like it'll try to cover the first two games.

Nozomi looked so different from the game though that at first I thought it was a new character.

Finished the first season of F-Zero (26 episodes) and all of Zetsubou Sensei.

God, Zetsubou Sensei is such a shitpost. I probably shouldn't have watched all the seasons in such a (relatively) short time cause it got a bit repetitive. Season 3 had a lot more misses than hits in its rants and rambles compared to the earlier seasons. But its probably heavily a cultural thing. I can't claim to understand a lot of the Japanese culture ramblings that the show went on about cause I don't live there lol.

I started reading Liar Game. I'm not that far into it yet but it's great so far. I am worried about the length, and if they manage to stretch it out into 200 chapters in a way that feels natural

From what I've heard, episode 1 of the new season is new content, while episodes 2-7 are just the Mugen Train movie split into individual episodes with very little (and no significant) new content, so those six episodes can be skipped if you've already seen the movie.

Yes, but unfortunately, Netflix's typesetting is still too incompetent to deal with all of the on-screen Japanese text (notes, chalkboard writing, thought bubbles, etc.) that appears in the show. Netflix has no option to only have subtitles show for all of the on-screen text in the show, so you either turn subtitles on and the dialogue is subtitled too (and doesn't even match the dub's dialogue) or don't turn them on and miss some important information in the on-screen text. The English dub sort of tries to fix this by having either Tadano or the narrator just say what the on-screen text is, but through the first few episodes, a good chunk of the on-screen text has still been untranslated.

In short, fuck Netflix.

Netflix is kinda lazy about some of that stuff for sure which is annoying. I'm 3 episodes in and it hasn't detracted from my enjoyment of the show.

Pretty much, yeah. She writes instead of speaking and Netflix doesn't always bother translating the on screen text

I think it's specifically a Netflix thing, Crunchyroll definitely translates on screen text from what I've seen (eg JoJo)
