Regardless of the dubbing issues, Komi is absolutely wonderful and probably my favorite anime of this genre ever.

The Demon Slayer S2 dub finally kicked off for real today. I watched the first episode of the Mugen Train arc (since that was new content) and the last episode of the arc (because seeing Rengoku is that other episode made me want to watch that fight again) before finally watching the first episode of the new Entertainment District arc that started today. This show is so good aside from any scene where Zenitsu opens his big stupid mouth.

I finished Komi last night. It was wonderful. Absolutely wonderful!

No Game No Life has been on hiatus since forever at this point.

I don't know about the LN or whatever drama happened with it, but IMO the anime is absolutely as good as the hype. It has a really creative concept, two really fun main characters, fantastic comedy with a bit of parody, and a bunch of unique "battles" (more like games, it's complicated to explain without spoiling anything) where the MC's win with clever strategy and not asspulls. Plus it's all backed up by beautiful animation, great voice acting in both Japanese and English, and one of the best openings that I've ever heard from an anime.

The fact that the anime had such a blatant and shameless "fuck you go read the LN" non-ending is literally the only reason why I didn't give the show a 10/10. I enjoyed it that much and want a second season that badly.

Things like konosuba / cautious hero barely fit into the isekai definition in my head. like, I know they are, but there's a certain sort of mood / plot style / etc I associate with the genre and those two more just use the setting as a way to deliver endless amounts of jokes based on things that don't exist in the real world.

this isn't just an "I like it so it's not isekai" either because I thought cautious hero was pretty bad <_<

I might've said this before, but it's probably more appropriate to think of isekai as a setting type more than genre.
The isekai LN/WN cliches associated with the "isekai" originated from stuff that got super popular in the... last decade or so, but there are definitely a lot of isekai works that predate those.

Fwiw I genuinely like Konosuba. It's trash, but it's funny and doesn't act like it's anything special

Yeah I can agree with serperior's analysis for the most part. Mainly the annoying cliche LN tropes. Still liked the show, but it was dragged down some.

Visited my high school friend today and we binged animu all day again. Watched the entirety of season one of Bungou Stray Dogs. Fun show. Lots of good bois and top tier girls.

It can take me so long just to watch a single series, but when you are binging with a friend it goes by so fast.

Just finished Cold Steel 1 this morning. I'm thinking of starting Cold Steel 2 of course but I know that's gonna be another like 200 hours. I wonder if I should weave in some other games or a VN before committing to Cold Steel 2.

I've given it 5 episodes, but I'm officially dropping Komi Can't Communicate.

On top of absolutely hating Yamai and every second of her screentime (I think I might actually hate her more than Zenitsu from Demon Slayer) the rest of the show is just... really dull. In 5 entire episodes I probably haven't even laughed 5 times, which is awful for an anime that's supposed to be a comedy. Yeah, the idea of Komi slowly overcoming her anxiety with Tadano's help is wholesome, but a show can be wholesome without being boring, and I just find this show to be too boring for me to continue.

Are all the chapters necessary or is it more along the lines that chapter 1 is the main story and the rest are spinoffs? I can find chapters 1,2 and 4 online but where is the third

I watched the episode of the Miss Kuroitsu dub. It was entertaining and the monster girl was a cutie, so I reckon I'm sticking with it

I think with Yamai it is to show that the "obsession" that everyone has for Komi is wrong. It is a real thing that with that level of appreciation and love you have people who don't know how to focus that for positive reasons.

She is awful but it gives you a foil.

The chapters are weird, but basically you want "Last Season" which has the complete game in one package. Every chapter is the main story, so they will open up as you work your way through.
