Supposedly there is a sequel in the works, but I got to experience the story and it blows.

Three Star Wars movies, Three Indiana Jones movies and one Matrix movie. Those are the facts.

Yeaah...I just got back from seeing it and...I felt nothing. This movie makes the second and third films look like a masterpiece. At least thoes films had a beginning and an end despite all the flaws I can put up with. This one? I have no idea why...way too much meta going on for the sake of being meta and self awareness? Reminding me of the first matrix film almost constantly? That being the better film obviously. I really dont know what the hell they were trying to do with this one. Think of Terminator Genisys. And that's what this film is. Yeah, they went that route.

Based on stuff the Wachowskis have said in interviews, it mainly feels like this movie exists solely because Lana Wachowski needed therapy after their parents died, so this was essentially her working through her problems.

I mean, when you say things like "I can't have my parents back but I can have Neo and Trinity back", it kind of spells out your motivations. Especially after you've spent 20 years deliberately refusing to make a new Matrix sequel and saying you're never going to because the story is over and there's nothing left to tell.

This is literally true: the books never finished. Once the books ended they realized they didn't know how to make their own good TV content, even with Martin's notes.

And...how has nobody said FF7 yet? Are we still too confused regarding whether the new one is different or not?

Ah, I see... I never knew this and that makes much more sense now. And its like, now that I get it but... thats not what the average movie goer is going to have on their mind anyways or even know about in terms of this persons personal life and all that jazz. But Iam glad to see her working that out through making this movie as a means of therapy which is fine. But its definitely going to be a film thats going to be very decisive needless to say.

Honestly I'd cut it down to only 6 Metal Gear games. The originals and Portable Ops aren't really worth it.

To be fair, that concept itself only exists because the second movie shat all over the theme of the first movie - which is that you can't change the past, only create closed loops that lead to the same future.

Skynet's attempt to kill John Connor before he was born is the only reason he was born in the first place. Kyle was always destined to be sent back in time to save him, thus creating him, because the past is fixed and the future is inevitable.

The second movie even starts with the same idea (Skynet is only created because it sent a Terminator back to kill Sarah Connor, thus allowing a scientist to study the wreckage and create Skynet based on its designs) before completely derailing it.

Which is a shame, because having both Skynet and its greatest nemesis created by a closed loop in time is kind of an interesting concept. Especially since it calls into question whether or not Skynet was actually sending the first Terminator back in time to kill Sarah Connor at all, or was simply doing it to ensure its own creation (in the same way that John had to ensure his own birth). Both sides of the conflict become self-created entities in that scenario, forever destined to be opposed because time itself can never be changed. Their creation becomes a loop without beginning or end.

The only reason more people didn't complain about the second movie changing that idea is because the second movie was kind of awesome in its own right. So people overlooked the change. Plus, it allowed for a happier ending, and American movie audiences love their happy endings.

It's all lies. But they're entertaining lies. And in the end, isn't that the real truth? :)

Really, though, I don't disagree that T2 changed the narrative. But like you said, if something is good on its own merit I can forgive a retcon or two...and T2 is good on its own.

While it's true that T1 showed a fixed loop and T2 showed the possibility of changing, I'm pretty sure Reese himself said the future wasn't set or something similar.

Yeah, but Kyle was also deliberately rescued, recruited, and specifically cultivated to complete his mission (which was never what he thought it was), so his understanding of time travel is limited at best. He might have believed that (especially since it was the excuse they used to send him back), but him believing it doesn't necessarily make it true.

Or to put it another way, if he'd been told that history cannot be changed, he might have asked why they were bothering to send him back to save her in the first place, since that would mean that it was impossible for Skynet to actually change the past. So they had to lie to him and imply the past can be changed, to justify why he'd need to go back to protect it.

It's made pretty clear that John Connor at least knew exactly why he was really sending Kyle back. It wasn't just an amazing coincidence - he was working to make sure Kyle would have a crush on his mother even before he sent him back.

But you can't really tell someone "I'm sending you back in time to bone my mom".

To be fair, the same is true for the Terminator films - the first one is more horror, the second one is more sci-fi/action. And in both cases people tended to enjoy the second one as much as/more than the first.

And in both cases, the quality drops off dramatically after the second movie in each franchise.

I agree. The first 4 albums are good, and I think Black is ok. Everything after Black has been a total miss, though.

I think Metallica fans just don't like Black because it was the turning point and actually landed on some charts.

Yeah, it was the stereotypical "My underground niche band has sold out!" reaction. That pretty much every band that tours for a while and then becomes mainstream popular tends to go through.

I don't think that's accurate. I got into Metallica with Black, but when I started listening to their older stuff I realized how much better it was, so you can't really make the argument that I was a hipster fan who thought the band "sold out" when they went mainstream.

The Black album (and, to a lesser extent, ...And Justice for All) had a very different sound to their first three albums. They basically switched from a true metal band to hard rock (and then again to... whatever the fuck you want to call the dark ages that were the albums that came after). I found Black to be alright, but their older stuff just hit harder (Master of Puppets, in particular, is a fucking legendary album).

Just watched it last night and it had SO much wasted potential and just went absolutely nowhere.

It was a serious dissapointment.

The first hour wasn't horrid, I was actually just sad they didn't do things like have a white castle burger in the therapists office, or call the video game Cyberpunk 2077 etc (little things that would have gotten a chuckle). They should have had the lawyer from JJ (trying to avoid spoilers) be a lesbian etc.

Things like that would have made the first half of the show better/more fun etc.

But I was like, wasted opportunity but this isn't bad so far.

Then you get past the first hour and it all just falls apart.

I could have just stopped watching at that point and i probably would have had a better over all experience.
