But do you actually do leadership work? My job has titles with "lead" in it, but that's just what they call level 4 employees. You can be really good technically but have 0 leadership experience or duties.

I've managed a McDonald's as a Team Leader for a few months.

Night manager of a pizza place/bar for a year.

Also been the manager/chef of a ramen bar.

I found that dealing with certain people that are older than you but don't want to take orders to be a giant pain in the ass.

I was an actual manager for a couple years, I don't miss it. I don't mind the day to day stuff, but the administrative things like reviews and performance management is the bane of my existence. I don't even like doing my own performance reviews...which reminds me that I still haven't done mine for this year.

I was the SPL of my boy scout troop for a few years and I was a PiC at Jimmy John's, which was pretty much a manager without the raise, I had to do opens, closes, all the paperwork, etc.

I have also been a trainer at all my jobs if you want to consider that leadership

Kind of? I don't get to boss people around, but I do guide them and have the final say in technical decisions.

So not "leader" like a manager, but "leader" of a project if that makes any sense.

Sometimes I'm the leader of a squad in Battlefield V. But I don't like it, so I usually promote someone else to leader whenever I end up as the leader.

I was a team lead at a shipping company for about 3 and a half years. I was pretty good at it and was liked and/or respected by the team who worked under me.

That said, I haaaate the leadership role. Babysitting adults fucking sucks.

I was asked to split 8 newbies into 4 teams

3 of those teams were to monitor the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors while the other team were to keep an eye on the elevator and send up whatever the floors needed

The elevator team laughed, took off who knows where, and the 3 other teams probably never made it to their floors

My first and last time as any sort of leader

Being a leader of a project makes sense to me considering I have a team of 20 engineers that I lead. You're describing the role of a tech lead, which moreso drives archietcutre of products, not people. I do both as a team lead.

Also Lead is not the same as a manager.

I was a team leader at burger king. And now I'm a training officer in a prison.

Which just being a officer is leadership expierence imo. Im expected to get criminals to follow rules hopefully using only my words. And for the most part I succeed in that. Have had to be a ass for awhile writing em up. But now that they know I will the usually do as I ask. And thats how I do it too i always start with phrasing it like im asking them not telling them.

Off topic but I wish cops where made to work corrections for a couple of years. It teaches you how to talk to people and escalate situations. We have our weapons but we are vastly outnumbered everyday so we do everything we can to refrain from using force
