I haven't been keeping up with Hololive much, what's all this about PekoMiko being dead and stuff?

They haven't collabed together since 2020 Xmas, only a few interactions in big events, but Miko's big pairings have been with Suisei and Korone.
Pekora on the other hand seems to have shifted to Botan/Towa and her Genmates.

People always hope that during a live they'll do their song as a duet, but it never happens.

I don't think the two of them had a big falling out or anything like that. Honestly, most of the friends you ever make in your life, you will eventually drift apart from them and become less close than you once were. It could be nothing more than the two of them simply not spending time together for a little while due to scheduling reasons, and then never bothered to get back in touch the way they used to before.

On that note I do have a little bit of speculation as to what may have happened. When Miko had to take an extended break due to illness and even had a surgery, she was gone for quite a while. When she came back, she mentioned during this period there were people who reached out to her all of the time to check on her, make sure she was doing okay, etc. I never once saw her mention Pekora as being one of those people that was frequently checking on her.

For anyone who has been in that situation of being down on your luck, sick, depressed, or whatever else, you might understand what I'm getting at here. But when you have friends like Mio, Suisei, etc. who are staying by your side and showing genuine concern for you while you're unable to do all of the fun stuff you used to do together, it will make you feel a lot closer with that person. If you have someone that you used to play games with all the time, but when you get sick they never bother to check in on you because you can't do fun stuff together anymore, you might come back from the experience feeling less close to that person.

I don't know. I don't want to claim I know 100% for sure that's what happened, because I think it kinda paints Pekora in a negative light, and that's not my intention. But I did find myself thinking that could be why they drifted apart, and the timing does match. The first time Miko and Pekora encountered each other in minecraft, after Miko came back from her extended break, it was pretty clear they had not spoken to each other in a long time.

I honestly believe its unhealthy both for you and the targets of your speculation to think about these things that much. Theres like fifty people in Hololive now, its impossible for them to all collab with each other. There could be any of a million reasons these real-life people havent interacted on-screen for your entertainment

I kinda like the ones that put in the effort to edit their content versus some of the low effort clip channels where the translation are of dubious quality.

Some people, like Kiara, have talked about this before. The process for doing collaborations with people outside of Hololive is more cumbersome because there's a lot more red tape to go through. She frequently interacts with Pomu on twitter and does want to do a collaboration with her. I doubt they're outright banned from doing collabs with NijiEN. It just takes a while because it's more inconvenient with more paperwork, managers needing to talk to managers, etc.

Aside from that, why would two people who don't know each other just randomly decide to do a stream together? Since most of the HoloEN and NijiEN people barely know each other, there's not much reason for them to collab. The NijiJP and HoloJP members who collab all live very close to each other, likely hang out in real life, and possibly even knew each other before becoming vtubers.

JP side likely has a lot more corporate networking which lets them meet people for future opportunities.

It wouldn't surprise me if a bunch of Vtubers attend meetings with potential partners alongside talents from other companies.
Would make sense for the license holders and so on to want to meet talents before agreeing to certain sponsorships and so on.

Couple of really fun events today
Lui had a Quiz event where talent had to answer how well they knew YAGOO.
Polka had a 3D Live, but played more of a producer role than performer. some good creativity there.
Haven't watched all the Legend of Polka stuff, but her content is a little unique compared with her peers.

in addition to that, many of them also know each other since before vtubers were really a thing. there were very close niconico streamer circles who did offline meet ups and collabs with each other, and you'd be surprised at how many of them ended up working together at Hololive later on. or as Hololive talents who continued to do collabs with their friends outside of Hololive.

though this starts getting into 'forbidden knowledge' territory, it's like, if you already know, you can't just unlearn or forget or ignore what you know. for me personally I don't view them as characters at all. it's like knowing that matt damon and ben affleck are friends. I'm not going to pretend that their real lives don't have an influence over their decisions about who to work with.

likewise, I'm not going to awkwardly tiptoe around the fact that NND exists, or that these are real women with streaming careers. not actually a kitsune who wandered out of the woods and immediately sat down in front of a laptop and began engaging the internet five days a week.

on that note, on the subject of kson doing a collab with hololive: she HAS collabed with members from hololive. choco and mel that I know of. and yes, I mean recently.

yeah I think this is one of the biggest barriers toward getting people in the EN branches to collab with people outside of Hololive. there are so many complex questions that need to be answered before a cross-company collab can happen, and a lot of trust is involved. add to that, the people in the management position are extremely restricted toward how they can interact and engage with the non-company talents outside of japan. it makes those questions harder to answer, and the trust harder to form.

Tbh, as a Hololive fan, I just want to avoid a situation where a talent is put into a difficult interaction with a 3rd party and because they're unprepared it leads to some bad PR.

Collabs with Tamaki or even Mea are one thing, if they were dropped in with the wrong type of influencer it could hurt the image bad.

Ok is there something going on with Apex of late?
That game almost killed Matsuri's channel and hasn't done all that well for Choco/Towa/Roboco when they grinded on it.

But Aqua's Apex streams are now popping off for over 40k live viewers, even some big collabs don't touch that tier of interest. Fubuki's crazy popular shiny hunt wasn't reaching that much attention either.

last i checked aqua was just very good at apex and always drew respectable numbers (maybe not 40k respectable but always good for their time). and aqua's almost always been knocking on the door to be holojp's most popular streamer with her viewcounts. so maybe just normal apex things tbh

she was pushing to get Master rank solo, after failing last year. she finally succeeded. that's why her stream was exploding

(i haven't watched her much in the last 6 months or so, but tbh i got much more invested in her content than i ever anticipated based on how i (pretty much randomly) found her around debut. it's rare to find someone with her particular energy, combined with her retro game passion (like a third of her streams were dedicated to speedrunning snes and n64 games. she also did a lot of non-streams despite debuting hardly a year ago, including superplay videos of games like panel de pon, or lp series of games such as genshin). of course, in the last 6 months, i've also seen generally more other people playing similar things, but not in such memorable formats. also a noted singer with a totally different singing voice (way deeper). there were just a lot of things about her that made her pretty memorable even if i only watched her for maybe like 4 hours ever overall)

Good for Aqua she ended up taking a massive break from gaming in general for a bit.

She's probably the one Hololive girl who needs to play Elden Ring given her FromSoft speedruns.

From the sounds of Calli and Gura's stream last night, it's unlikely they'll be able to stream Elden Ring. Whether that applies to the JP branch too though, I dunno.

Oh, there have been certain periods where they did and didn't have permissions or only specific people did is what I meant

So basically with Hololive there was a period where they just streamed whatever they wanted. Then there was a big purge where a bunch of their videos had to be removed all at once due to copyright claims. There's actually a ton of videos missing from the archives of some of the girls, and some of them got hit harder than others. This is what led to the change in policy where now they will ONLY stream something if they have explicit permission to do so.

All of the Dark Souls streams were lost during this purge, and none of them have been restored. I know offhand that Luna and Aqua both played it. I'm not sure who else without having to go look it up. You can infer from this that FromSoftware are one of the companies that has not given Hololive any permission to stream any of their games, which is also why they're unlikely to stream them in the future as well.

But yes, they did stream them in the past. You just can no longer find those streams.

Many of the companies that didn't give permissions ended up doing so later on, which is why I'm still hoping for a potential Aqua run.
Capcom nearly nuked Mio's channel over Ghost Trick, but then when HL blew up she was one of the first girls promoting stuff for one of their crane games.

Noel's Dark Souls stuff though is the stuff of legends. Her Nioh playthroughs are her just trying to brute force everything and Dark Souls was no different.

That said I'm not actually sure why FromSoft are the ones who control streaming permissions for Dark Souls/Elden Ring, shouldn't it be Bamco? They've played other games from them, I'm just not sure why Atlus/FromSoft seem to be able to act independently from the publishers. Don't think this happens with Square/Capcom's stuff.

In Japan those are self-published by FromSoftware

Basically it seems to be a Holo issue. From nijien, Nina has streamed dark souls recently and both vox and rosemi have had recent sekiro streams.

The twitch tubers also don't seem to have the issue. Would full on expect saruei to stream it considering she's been streaming fromsoftware games for like 2 months straight.
