Do you still have nightmares about being late for class/assignments/exams?

Long story short, just had another nightmare where I had an assignment to hand over and I was a day late. Back when I was in school, it meant losing 10% of the assignment possible total grade for each day the assignment was late.

I've been done with school in quite a while, but I just keep having nightmares, about once a month, about being late for either an exam/class/assignment, and those dreams are always very realistic, unlike some of the more garbage dreams.

Really wish it would stop since I can kind of feel myself being stress even when sleeping.

I never had nightmares about schools, IIRC

I have had nightmares about waking up late for work, though

Were you worried about being late for work because you could actually be late for work IRL that day or you weren't in any situation where you would be late for work?

no, I think I did have a dream once or twice about back in high school. Funny enough I did end up missing an exam for an insurance course I took for work and mis wrote my date of my exam when I booked it near the start of the course, fortunately they were pretty okay with allowing me to re write it next term without any penalty. I think they were pretty lenient since it was when they moved all testing to online due to covid.

I wouldn't have actually been late. I basically make my own hours...

I'm 45 and haven't been to school for decades, yet I'll still occasional have dreams about being back in school and having deadline or grade problems, or something else school-related.

Which is even weirder, because I didn't really have those sorts of dreams when I was in school.

Not about school itself, but once or so a year I'll have a dream where I'm at a marching band performance and I don't remember my places. First time it happened it was a nightmare, but now they're just more of the same.

I still occasionally have dreams about being in school and trying to remember which classes I have to head to, etc. And sometimes there'll be some weird in-dream explanation for me being back, like a technicality or something requiring me to redo something.

I haven't been in school for awhile, and I often still get nightmares about school: missing classes and deadlines, failing, getting lost on campus, etc. My of my nightmares about school take place in high school, especially 12th grade, and college. Unfortunately, in my dreams, I am often stupid. For example, I would not wonder why I would be taking high school classes again when I've finished grad school.

I still have dreams of being at school and this is 18 years later. This includes looking at my timetable and dreams about people in my year. Some good and some fucked up dreams. Most of my dreams are more like nightmares but I've become used to them.

Really wish I understood why that is so. You'd think at one point that one's self-consciousness would realize that the scenario is not possible and just let go. I can feel those dreams causing anxiety, which I don't approve of.

We barely understand dreams in the first place, let alone specific ones. A number of theories suggest that dreams are a result of brain activity in under-utilized parts of the brain, primarily as a means of strengthening the synapses that are responsible for maintaining unused memories, and that would make sense here. We have plenty of memories of school that don't necessarily get considered on a daily basis, so having dreams poke around in there to clean out the cobwebs is to be expected, as is framing that in an anxiety-inducing manner.

What I always find weird is that I never wake up feeling stressed about them, as much as I definitely feel stressed in them. But then it's pretty rare for me to retain any emotional state from my dreams after I wake up (unless that emotional state is "horny"), so I guess that tracks.

No, which is kind of surprising because I had an abusive teacher who would mock me in front of the rest of the class whenever I was late or struggled with an assignment.
