Final Fantasy (name) Final Fantasy VII Aerith dies Blue Magic Spheres 8-Bit Theater Final Fantasy Tactics Auron Nobuo Uematsu Final Fantasy X: The last good one. At least the series went out with a REALLY good one. Having a Southeast Asian setting was an inspired choice after dingy cyberpunk world, clean modern world, and medieval Europe. The tone of the game is perfect, the characters are all good except for Kimahri, and the vistas are great. I would have liked to explore Bevelle some more, but it's okay. This is probably the most cohesive game, and by that I mean the game with the most unironic good in it. Not to say that there's no ironic good, either. I absolutely love the ending of Tidus' soul falling into Heaven and high-fiving his dad. As a concept, having the main character defeat the final boss by finally getting over his daddy issues is wonderful, as is Tidus refusing to let Yuna sacrifice herself, then having to sacrifice himself at the end of the game. And Yuna hesitating to finish the sending when she realizes it'll kill Auron, and him telling her to keep going, is great. Tifa Calculator/Mathematician This is the way Final Fantasy VI Spell Suffixes Summon (Command) Desperation Attacks Chocobos Malboro Opera Scene Kilika Sending Scene Suplexing a Train Unique Game Logos Midgar Zolom Final Fantasy IV Yuna's Character Growth Final Fantasy I Final Fantasy VIII Aerith vs Tifa Bravely Default FFT's Original Translation Going to the Moon Final Fantasy V Squall's Dreams Weather-themed Names Official Dressphere Spelling Job Systems Gunblade Stay Away From the Summoner Lady Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Card Games Blitzball Chemist (FFV): Was this where it started? The 'class with a million options for completely breaking the game, but that requires so much effort to understand that you'll just look up a guide to plow through it as fast as possible?' Good idea for a class, although I would have called it 'alchemist' instead. Final Bosses Ivalice Moogles Final Fantasy IX Fourth Wall Gilgamesh Having a good feeling because this is the way The Laughing Scene Turks (organization): I was tempted to make a Young Turks joke, but eh. As a concept, having a recurring group of enemies who aren't really evil, and who all dress in snazzy business suits, is good. But I never understood these guys' popularity. They're barely part of the story, and the only one with a cool design is Reno. I guess it just helps to have human-level opponents to beat up. Monk Tidus being an awkward fool Edea Gilgamesh The kid who wants to grow up to be a blitzball I, Garland, will knock you all down! FFXIV's Free Trial Ondore's Lies Same Orphanage Evil Empires This Guy Are Sick Xenogears Dancing Mad Kingdom Hearts (series) SMFFFC Ultima: Conceptually a neat idea. I like the idea of the "ultimate" attack magic. But nothing is ever really done with it, and FFII screws up by having it be weaker than normal spells. Yu Yevon Whatever Fellows (FFIII): A competent, but forgettable, joke. They didn't even get their own models. Final Fantasy Dissidia 1 FF8 Game Over Screen Gabranth Frontier Village Dali (song) Summon Monsters Split Party Dungeons Bells (weapon): I never understood bells as a weapon. Looking up the FF wiki, it says they're associated with geomancers because the Japanese job name is "Feng Shui Knight," and bells dispel negative energy. Do they? I always thought of bells as just being loud. Sabin's WoB Segment Gogo: The definition of a 'who cares' character. I do like the mime command conceptually, though, it's one of my favorite FF combat ideas. Terra vs Celes FF7 Game Over Screen Costa del Sol condo Mario Hoops 3-on-3 Wark vs Kweh Final Fantasy XIV Ivalice: People talk up Ivalice quite a bit. Here's the hard truth: who cares? I'll admit there are some cool nonhuman races, but that's it. Otherwise, it's a boring setting. It was almost boring by design, since FFT just needed a feudal system run by stuffy priests. FFVI Glitches Moogle Charm Dark Aeons Cast Size Shrinkage Since IX FFVII CPR Minigame Smash Ultimate Sephiroth Reveal Irvines hat Moomba NORG Dilly dally shilly shally Tetra Master Umaro Hot Dogs Argath's Name Change Needlessly Long Summon Animations: Barf. It makes you want to just attack normally, because the battle will end faster. You should be able to skip the animations after the first use. Ramza's Nose in Dissidia The differences between playing FFX blitzball and playing FFX-2 blitzball Final Fantasy XV in a Nutshell Final Fantasy The Compilation of Final Fantasy VII Renaming Characters FFIX's Battle System: The biggest issue with this system is that the AP meter doesn't stop charging during animations, but animations last a really long time, so functionally, all characters have the same speed, because they'll all get the same number of turns. This is an advantage for slower characters like Steiner and Vivi. But also, the system is just sort of bog standard FF. When I think of the most FF battle system possible, this is what comes to mind instead of FFIV. Final Fantasy III Final Fantasy Dimensions Racist Wakka FFXVI Trailer Sephiroth vs Vergil Death Battle: I watched the whole thing. I don't like Death Battle, and I especially didn't like the two guys arguing with each other instead of just getting to the point. Sixteen minutes before they actually talk about the fight. I don't know what you expect. It's impressive that someone can animate a battle of Vergil and Sephiroth like this, but it's all just sort of lame to me, sorry. Final Fantasy (name) Final Fantasy VII Aerith dies Blue Magic Spheres 8-Bit Theater Final Fantasy Tactics Auron Nobuo Uematsu Final Fantasy X Ramza Beoulve: Pretty easily the most complex protagonist. Where everyone else grapples with either mostly internal problems (Cecil, Cloud, Squall), are searching for meaning (Terra, Zidane, Tidus, Lightning), or are just boring (Bartz, Vaan), Ramza is dealing with like societal issues and the morality of class systems. Tifa Calculator/Mathematician This is the way Final Fantasy VI Spell Suffixes Summon (Command) Desperation Attacks Chocobos Malboro IV's Rotating Party: ****ing genius concept. It makes complete sense that on a super dangerous adventure, you'd keep having party members get injured or killed (even if in the end, only one dies). It gives you characters with an extremely wide variety of different skills and motivations, and then (of course) you end with the characters with the most complex battle abilities. Sorry, Cid, but you were never going to stick around. Opera Scene Kilika Sending Scene Suplexing a Train Unique Game Logos Midgar Zolom Final Fantasy IV Yuna's Character Growth Final Fantasy I Final Fantasy VIII Aerith vs Tifa Bravely Default FFT's Original Translation Going to the Moon Final Fantasy V Squall's Dreams Weather-themed Names Official Dressphere Spelling Job Systems Gunblade Stay Away From the Summoner Lady Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Card Games Dragoon (job): It's interesting. This is an entire job that is just "what if you could jump really high, then fall onto your enemy?" But for whatever reason, it's cool and memorable. Nothing meaningful to say about it, though. Blitzball Chemist (FFV) Final Bosses Ivalice Moogles Mixing Sci-fi and Fantasy: This depends on the game, of course. On a spectrum of Fantasy to Sci-Fi, I'd say the games rate as follows: 3-2-5-1-4-9-12-10-6-7-8-13-15. Generally, I do like the 'more sci-fi' games more, I will admit. The real question is if there are any games without ancient super technology buried somewhere. Does 13 have that? I honestly can't remember. Final Fantasy IX Fourth Wall Gilgamesh Having a good feeling because this is the way The Laughing Scene Shadow: Shadow is cool, and I like his backstory never explicitly saying he's Relm's father. I also like his dog. He's about the right complexity for a side character in a cast of fourteen. I never really used him that much when playing the game, though. I used him occasionally, but I hate throwing things other than ninja stars. Turks (organization) Monk Edea Gilgamesh The kid who wants to grow up to be a blitzball I, Garland, will knock you all down! FFXIV's Free Trial Ondore's Lies Same Orphanage Evil Empires This Guy Are Sick Xenogears Dancing Mad Kingdom Hearts (series) SMFFFC Ultima Shinra Stairs: A very funny alternative method to the intended ascent, and it makes complete sense why Shinra wouldn't have guarded it, because no one is crazy enough to run up seventy flights of stairs. Is this still around in the remake? I hope so. Final Fantasy XII: Instead of discussing FFXII, I will link this 4chan troll post I once saw. https://pastebin.com/1YcsiC2B Yu Yevon Whatever Fellows (FFIII) Zidane/Garnet Relationship: Zirnet? Gardane? Gardane is funnier. Anyway, unlike Squall/Rinoa, which the story revolves around, this relationship is just sort of there. It's important in the sense of Zidane and Garnet's character arcs, and I guess you can argue that it's important in helping to bring Zidane fully onto the side of humans, but there are way fewer memorable moments. I think I remember it less than the Cecil/Rosa relationship, even. Final Fantasy Dissidia 1 FF8 Game Over Screen Gabranth Vanille: I barely remember this character, I'm sorry. I played FFXIII a million years ago. Mainly what I remember about her is the scene where she and Fang turn into diamonds, and I only remember that because of an ancient meme about "your lesbians are now diamonds." Tidus being an awkward fool Frontier Village Dali (song) Summon Monsters Split Party Dungeons Bells (weapon) Sabin's WoB Segment Gogo Yoshitaka Amano: Oh, this guy. I didn't remember his name, but I do know his art. I'll agree that he has a lot of technical skill, but his style looks nothing like any FF, and half the time you can't tell who's who. I don't know why Square keeps him as the official art guy. Terra vs Celes FF7 Game Over Screen Costa del Sol condo Mario Hoops 3-on-3 Wark vs Kweh Final Fantasy XIV Ivalice FFVI Glitches Alexandria (city): Uh... no real opinions? It's just a standard medieval city, it doesn't even have the steampunk elements of Lindblum. Moogle Charm Dark Aeons Gogo as Adlai Stevenson Theory: This sort of verges on randumb humor. I mean, yes, mocking Gogo identity theories makes sense, but this is just whatever. It did lead me to look up Adlai Stevenson as a kid, thuogh, and then when a science teacher asked if anyone had ever heard of him and I told him what I knew, he was impressed. Cast Size Shrinkage Since IX FFVII CPR Minigame Smash Ultimate Sephiroth Reveal Irvines hat Moomba NORG Dilly dally shilly shally Tetra Master Umaro Hot Dogs Argath's Name Change Needlessly Long Summon Animations Ramza's Nose in Dissidia The differences between playing FFX blitzball and playing FFX-2 blitzball Final Fantasy XV in a Nutshell Final Fantasy The Compilation of Final Fantasy VII Renaming Characters FFIX's Battle System Final Fantasy III FFIX Ability Learning: Hated it. It's not the worst level-up mechanic in the world, but it incentivizes you to constantly equip crappy weapons past the point where they're useful. I know that's the point, but in the end it just lengthens the game. Final Fantasy Dimensions Racist Wakka FFXVI Trailer Sephiroth vs Vergil Death Battle Blame yourself or God YuRiPa Square-Enix Merger Final Fantasy II Level Grinding NORA Prerendered Cutscenes FFXV's Development Woes Zidane's Sexual Harassment FF6 Main Character Arguments Level Scaling Theatrhythm/Curtain Call Feral Chaos Crazy Chocobo Shelinda FFX being the last good one Characters with names three letters or less Blue Mage Trailer (FFXIV) Materia (Dissidia NT) Hundreds of voices screaming in unison FFVII/FFX Combined Universe Theory Lightning Dodging --- Not changing this sig until I decide to change this sig. Galuf filling himself with the power of love to counter ExDeath is so good. Fighting on at zero HP to represent going beyond your physical limits is a great way to mix gameplay and story. Unique Game Logos Crystals: Fun fact, I was playing a tabletop game once, and we went into a cave full of crystals. I asked if they had any magical properties, and the GM just got annoyed and said "these are normal crystals, not Final Fantasy crystals," and everyone laughed at me. What is it with crystals and magic? Because FF did not invent that. Is it just that they look cool? Because crabs are cool, but I've never seen a game feature magical crabs as a major plot point. Midgar Zolom Final Fantasy IV Yuna's Character Growth Final Fantasy I Final Fantasy VIII Slots (skill/limit break): A cool concept, but I never use them. You can never rely on them, and even when I did give them a shot, I always found them to be crap in the end. The only exceptions are Tifa and Wakka, and only because you have a little more control over those, and because even failing with them still does more damage than a regular attack, and because there's no opportunity cost to using them. Aerith vs Tifa Bravely Default One-Winged Angel: I have a weakness for epic choirs. I don't know why. FFT's Original Translation Going to the Moon Final Fantasy V Squall's Dreams FFT Spell Incantations: I will go to my grave not knowing why these were taken out. It makes so little sense. Weather-themed Names Tidus/Yuna Relationship: One of the better-written relationships, even if it makes no sense when you spend time with Lulu and Rikku instead. Yuna having this tragic goal that she's dedicated herself to, and feeling hesitant because there's this hopeful awkward boy involved, is great. Tidus' never-give-up attitude is great, especially when he finally sacrifices himself in a similar way to what she'd intended for herself. Everyone's actions make complete sense at all times, and lead into the next part of the subplot perfectly. It has a perfect bittersweet ending, which is why it's a little weird that XII-2 brings him back, but sure. At least Square didn't do something stupid like have him kick a soccer ball bomb and instantly die. Official Dressphere Spelling Job Systems Gunblade Stay Away From the Summoner Lady Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Card Games Dragoon (job) ATB: If you asked me what battle system I like the most in the series, I'd say FFX's.
