Perhaps the greatest playable cast in a JRPG, and I've never seen a game interweave its themes into the plot and the gameplay quite like this game did.

There's some problems with how the game handles it's individual character arcs, but they're minor at the end of the day. Overall the game is very good. Really compelling atmosphere, some interesting themes that are integrated well, and one of the best cast dynamics that I've seen in a JRPG.

Bit of a tough one to rate. The surface story is pretty weak, but it's just an excuse to explore the characters anyway, who are generally very good. Some of the anime tropey humor isn't as charming as when I was younger, though, and several aspects of the writing have aged poorly (mostly some parts related to Kanji and Naoto). Overall the narrative is greater than the sum of the parts.

Overall plot is kinda dull and predictable, aside from when Nanako is in danger, which is the most gripping segment of the game.

Yu is a bland avatar and lacks the stylishness of Joker.

Inaba is perhaps the best realized setting of a videogame ever. I have never wanted to "live" in a videogame more. This is worth a lot of points. Also, the characters are good and get along well. The initial mystery is extremely well done, even if the payoff isn't all that great.

What really makes this one worse than 3 and 5 storywise for me is the repetition of "Don't say it!" "You're Not Me!" in nearly every single dungeon. Just a bit too formulaic.

Glad this isn't Golden! Because it's actually at least a full point worse.

Cast chemistry, Character interaction and emotional moments that keep you at the edge of your seat despite the somewhat simplistic murder mystery storyline, are all top notch. I don't think I have ever been this attached to a fictional setting in any media. The end to the original Persona 4 really felt like you were saying goodbye to a place that felt like home. Persona 4's highs are unmatched in its own series even with how stellar P5Royal was.

Resident Evil 4 - 5.5
One of the greatest games ever made but its story isn't the reason why. I give 5 and a half points for its memorable cheesy dialogue and the entertainment it provided me.

Wow. RE4 actually averaged over a 7? I thought I was being really generous with my 5.5. Without question one of the greatest games ever. In fact it is a Top 10 game for me but the story as a whole is mediocre even by Resident Evil standards.

I actually think LMS has the right of it here, though it says more about OoT being judged too harshly than RE4 getting off light I think.

Also 8.5, KP beat me to all my points and when this came out it would have been a 10 but parts have not aged well. The handling of Kanji in particular was good for its time but seems very cowardly today.

It's not comparable to something like Mass Effect 1 and 3 both of which it scored higher than. It is very comparable in quality to something like OoT. Both of which are not games whose main focus is the story. Anyone saying Ocarina has a good story, is very clearly speaking from nostalgia or fanboyism.

OoT has a very good story. With OoT, you have to take into account the storytelling norms of videogames at the time. Given its competition, OoT does a remarkable job with its side characters and tying them into the overall plot. There's strong atmospheric storytelling too, which wasn't really a thing back then. I think its current score is fair (6-7).

Yeah, I don't think OoT's score is exactly unfair. RE4 is a point better, but that's not some indictment of OoT. I think it just speaks to the charm of RE4's dialogue.
