of all the marvel properties that should be tv shows and not movies, eternals is one that would definitely work better as a weekly serial.

What I'm hearing about it is that it goes for something completely different from typical MCU stuff but doesn't quite pull it off. So at least if it's bad it might be in a novel way!

I don't want to just go from engagement impressions, but there are a loooooooot of people in discussion threads of this on Twitter who have not seen the movie who are pretty vocal that this will be the best Marvel movie to date due to representation in the cast and staff. It's absolutely possible that we'll see an initial reverse review bomb here, like Rise of Skywalker got. Or, you know, people may just like it more than critics. Hard to say! I think they stacked the cast this much so they could afford it failing; there'll probably be enough there for a follow-up, either directly via a sequel or in-universe. But it will intrigue them much more to see if they can pull off an X-Men, or if they'd be better off starting with a Professor X movie, for example, and building the X-Men out of that. Introducing a huge cast like that will always create problems, because you're always gonna short-sell some people and maybe the person you do pay a lot of attention to just doesn't work out. It makes writing and character development messy. It'll be fascinating to see if they would try to separate the Fantastic Four, but I can't imagine that working out, given how interwoven those characters are (while it should be possible to do an independent movie of several mutants, independent of their X-Men role). --- How paralyzingly dull, boring and tedious! ... If it is at a festival or just general critics screenings it usually stays around the same (+/- 5%) after ~50 reviews.
